What...No TV!?

Greg and I have been talking for awhile about turning off our DISH. We both feel that we're paying for lot's and lot's of advertising. Some of which makes me think that I need to buy whatever is being advertised. I remember a recent prophet, I think Pres. Hinckley, saying that we don't even know we need things until we see it advertised.

Greg bought a bunch of John Bytheway's firesides on CD. I knew that turning the TV off was going to be a great choice for our family. But after listening to one of his talk's, I feel that it was necessary for us to turn off the TV. Did you know that kids spend 900 hours in school a year? Do you know how much time they spend watching TV...over one-thousand!!! To be honest, my family fit into that category and it was becoming irritating to have that stupid, expensive TV on. So for Christmas we decided to buy a bunch of Kinect games that get the kids (and the adults) moving. I've never had so much fun as I have playing with my kids. We have to talk more and laugh more to fill the silence that the TV left behind.

My kids actually have to talk to each other. We think of other things to do now that our minds aren't doing nothing by watching Spongebob. I'm happy with our choice. I'm mostly impressed that Greg was willing to turn it off when he did. If you know Greg you know he loves football, and playoffs are just starting. I guess he'll have to figure something out to watch those games and I'll have to miss out on all those Ghosthunter episodes that I love so much. But really, we are going to have so much more time as a family, especially when a lot of that time is taken up by sports and music lessons. I'm happy we decided to make this choice for our family and I know that it's the right choice for us.

Can you send me the John Bytheway talk that put you over the edge? :) I so want to do this. And I think I could do it. But Sam on the other hand.... not so much! If we could get only sports stations. Way to go Greg! Sam would be okay without tv, not without football! :) But I wish we could. WAy to go!

We have like 4 TV channels and I think its for the best. We still manage to watch movies or something off the internet.

I might be heading to Oahu again. I think that is where you said you go. I was wondering what your favorite places to eat or beaches to go to are? You can email me at jonahfromidaho@yahoo.com

Thanks!
