Review: CONTROL by K. Bromberg!

My Review: There's just something so classic about the woman who lives her life on the fringe, doing things her own way, falling in love with a controlled, straight laced man. And that's essentially what we get here. A sweet, and fun, story about opposites attracting and coming together.

I'm not very familiar with this series by K. Bromberg. I do love her writing, and she's always been consistently awesome,  every book I've read by her. Control is no different. With this book, we have a well written story, characters I fell in love with, and it's all wrapped up in a perfect little one-sitting-read package. Definitely worth your time!!

Cover Lovin': 1001 Dark Nights classic.

Recommendation: Can be read as a stand alone.

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)!! So worth a read!

USA Today

EXCERPT: Men are on women. Women are on women. Grunts and groans fill the air. There is cheering from the sidelines as bystanders watch them writhe and buck and try to get the other off them. “It’s like a big orgy in here,” I say to the woman standing beside me. I don’t know her, but she’s standing like we are, back against the gym wall, eyes glued to the men and women fighting for positioning—moving, bucking, defending—on the mats where they’re lying. She emits a nervous laugh and looks to me. Prim and proper, she resembles a Stepford wife, and all I can think is that her ladies’ club decided to do this together and she’s the only one who decided to show up. At least I’m not the only one nervous about being here. There could be worse things I guess…like actually needing to use the skills I’m supposed to learn here in Sunnyville Self Defense Class to protect myself. A group at the far side of the gym erupts in applause, and I stand on my tiptoes to see a woman standing with her foot on the instructor’s throat while he’s lying on the mat. His red SSDC T-shirt matches everyone else standing around trying to look official with a whistle and gym pants on. “Exactly,” a deep rumble of a voice on the other side of me says. I glance over and whoa…all my attention shifts from the grunts and groans on the floor to how I wouldn’t mind grunting and groaning with the man on his cell beside me. Our gazes meet for the briefest of seconds—chocolate-brown eyes giving me a passing glance and a curt smile before turning back to whoever is on the phone while watching the action beyond. Taking my time and trying not to pay attention to HottieMcTotty, I scan the gym. Basic blue gymnastic mats cover the majority of the hardwood floors, basketball hoops hang from the lofty ceiling but have been drawn up, and championship banners hang, partially hiding the painted mural of the Sunnyville High School mascot on the wall at the far end. But no matter how hard I try to not look back at him, that is where my attention lands. He’s a good six inches taller than I am, has dark hair, and his body beneath his Under Armour workout shirt hints at how ridiculously fit he is. His bicep closest to me stretches the fabric and is covered in a dizzying tattooed array of colors and images I can’t openly look at to decipher. You can only do so much with a sideways stare. But his voice. It’s like liquid sex with a rasp and a rumble and a whole earth-shattering orgasm in between. Hello to you, Mister A-Little-Rugged-And-Whole-Lot-Sexy. I listen to him talk. Not stalkerish-like…well, maybe stalkerish-like, but damn if the background of grunting and groaning only serves to enhance the things my mind is dreaming up. And then it hits me. He’s not here as an instructor—no red SSDC shirt on. So that means he’s here as a boyfriend or a husband and therefore completely off limits. Damn it. If he were an instructor, I’d make sure to be in his group so he could grind on me for a bit…and I’m talking the pelvis kind of grind…if I’m being truthful.

Review: CUFFED by K. Bromberg!

My Review: A little torn on this one, honestly. I am absolutely in love with the teasing nature of Grant and Emerson - the one-upmanship, the teasing (the scene at the drugstore with the Tampax and Viagra had me laughing out loud)... But I have my issues with Emerson herself. Part of me understands why she's so "only live in the now," considering her past, I get it. But at the same time, that made her such an emotionless, almost shallow character, it was hard to like her. But because this is by K. Bromberg, she made me love everyone and everything by the end. It just felt like it took a while for me to get there.

As much as this book made me laugh, or fall in love, I still can't let go of my dislike of Emerson in the beginning. And I really want to, because there was so much good here. I also want to talk about how much I loved Grant's family - his realistic (and sometimes antagonistic) relationship with his brothers, and the family as a whole. Sure, the romantic relationship between the hero and heroine steals the show, but familial and friendships matter too! And they really add to the genuineness of the book.

Cover Lovin': Pass the fans! That's one hot cop.

Recommendation: New series, new slate! No prior knowledge necessary.

Final Rating: I'm wavering between a 3.5 and a 4 on this one, but I'm going with FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)! There was more than enough good to outweigh any difficulty I had, and overall, it was a great read.

Happy Reading!

From the New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, comes a new series about three brothers, the job that calls them, and the women who challenge them.
“I hate you. I never want to see you again.” Grant Malone is not the reason I moved back to Sunnyville—at least that’s what I tell myself. Yet, those parting words I said to him back in third grade, ring in my ears every time a townsperson brings up one of the Malone boys. I thought time had healed my wounds. I was wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt when I finally saw him again. Twenty years does a lot to turn a boy into a man. One who hits all my buttons—sexy, funny, attractive, and a police officer. But Grant is off limits because he knows too much about my past. But I’m drawn to him. That damn uniform of his doesn’t hurt either. It’ll be my downfall. I know it. What’s one night of sex going to hurt . . . right? *** I’ve always loved Emmy Reeves. That’s why I’m shocked to see her all these years later. The shy girl I once knew is all grown up. Adventurous and full of life, she owns my heart now, just as much as she did back then. Convincing her of that is a whole different story. I’ll give her the one night she asks for—like that’s a hardship—but when it comes to letting her walk away after, she has another thing coming. There’s no way in hell I’m letting her go this time without a fight. ADD TO GOODREADS

Review: THE CATCH by K. Bromberg!

My Review: Okay, first off, let me just say... I HAD TO WAIT THIS LONG TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THE CLIFFHANGER. That was very difficult. I started suggesting The Player to my romance-reading friends just so I had someone to commiserate with while we desperately waited for the second book. Okay, I was also making them read it because it was just that awesome, but still... cliffhangers, man.

** This review will contain spoilers for book one, so don't read this if you haven't read The Player. **

So now that I got that off my chest, I can talk about the actual book. Just like book one, The Catch was a one-sitting read for me. I could not put this down. I had to know how Easton and Scout were going to deal with the fall-out from the very end of The Player. My only issue with this book was that I didn't really understand the logistics of what was happening with the trade deal. I know part of that was because it was very up in the air what would happen to Easton for a while, but there was mention of being sent to a secondary/practice team with a pay cut or being traded, and I wasn't sure how Scout knew what she said would mean a trade and not the other option. But things smoothed out after the initial drama, and things became more clear.

The Catch does not skimp on the drama. While The Player felt more like a slow build, The Catch is one punch after another. We have the trade, Scout's father, Easton's literacy work, Easton's father and the MAJOR drama that is happening there.. Really, Scout and Easton can't catch a break.. and neither can the reader. But that just made this book that much more engrossing.

Cover Lovin': Oh my.. *Fans self* It goes oh-so-well with the first book.

Recommendation: This is a direct sequel, so you will need to read The Player first.

Final Rating: FOUR POINT FIVE out of FIVE stars (4.5/5)! Loved this! An excellent end to this duet. K. Bromberg has once again proven herself to be the queen.

Review: THE PLAYER by K. Bromberg!

My Review: Let me start by saying... THAT ENDING, AHH! Like everything I have read by K. Bromberg, The Player was a one sitting read for me. I kept thinking I'd put it down after just one more chapter so I could get some chores done.. but then I would finish a chapter, and I'd have to keep going. I was just that hooked.

I loved Easton. He's a legitimately sweet guy, and he doesn't deserve all the pressure placed on him. I just wanted to hug him and make it all better. Trust me, Easton has moved to the top of my book boyfriends list. I should have known there was too much going on to be solved in just one book, but I am heartbroken all the same because I have to wait until July to find out what happens?! Noooo!

I highly recommend this book, and this author in general. K. Bromberg writes a seriously awesome story, and she never let's me down. The Player was awesome, and I'm currently in "force everyone to read it" mode, so I can talk about it with someone.

Cover Lovin': Yum!
Recommendation: Book one, no prior knowledge necessary!
Final Rating: FIVE out of FIVE stars (5/5)! I couldn't put it down and I need more now!!!

Review: SWEET RIVALRY by K. Bromberg!

SWEET RIVALRY - RDL banner
My Review: I have yet to be disappointed by a 1001 Dark Nights novella. Whomever decides what authors to include and what stories to approve has an excellent sense of judgment. Sweet Rivalry is no different - K. Bromberg is a well loved author, and she will be gaining herself some new fans with this novella. Who doesn't love the tried and true hate-to-love scenario? Though, it wasn't really hate that they had going on...

I just want to throw out there that I would really, really like a Ryder of my own. I think he might have been written just for me. And I would love to talk about the ending, which I thought was fantastic and cleverly done, but I refuse to spoil anything for you guys. So go read it. Right now.

Cover Lovin': As always, fits perfectly with the 1001 Dark Nights series.

Recommendation:  Stand- alone. No prior knowledge necessary!

Final Rating:  FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)! This was a great rivals-to-lovers story. Short, sweet, and absolutely classic!

Happy Reading!

Ryder Rodgers had a plan.

He was going to stride into the conference room, do the required song and dance over the next five days, and win the biggest contract of his career. But when he walked in and heard the voice of one of his competitors, all his plans were shot to hell.

Harper Denton. She was always on top. In college. First in their class. Always using every advantage to edge him out to win the coveted positions. The only one who could beat him. His academic rival. More like a constant thorn in his side. And his ego’s.

When he heard her voice, he was brought back to years before. To the bitter taste of being second best. But the woman who meets his gaze is nothing like the drab wallflower he used to know. Hell no. She was all woman now: curves, confidence, and staggering sex appeal. And no doubt, still brilliant.

The fact that she’s gorgeous and bright won’t distract him. This time, Ryder’s determined to be the one on top. But not if Harper can help it.

Work first. Reward sex next. That’ll give me something to look forward to during the next few days. The ones I can’t wait to dive headfirst into that will be an ever-changing combination of stress, exhaustion, strategy, and manipulation. An unscripted dance amongst us bidders while we size each other up, calculate our numbers, and explain to the developer why we’re the most valuable candidate for the job. It’s the game I love. The competition I thrive on. My return to the job that I’ve been desperate to make. And there’d be no better way to make a statement that Harper Denton is back than to leave this building with the multimillion dollar contract for Meteor Development tucked securely under my arm. And just like that, as a reward for my positive thinking, when I look up, there he is, in full view. I take in the expensive briefcase, the venti Starbucks, and the expensive watch peeking out from beneath the cuff of his shirt. And just my luck that while I’m afforded a full view of his body, the one thing I’m the most curious about is obscured by his hand holding his cell phone up to his ear: his face. So instead I drink him in. He really is magnificent. I note his posture and the way he carries his body when he moves forward a few steps. There’s an air about him that says he’s no-nonsense and in control, powerful, and at the same time he doesn’t seem uptight. He has that Southern California professional vibe. I can’t put my finger on it but he reminds me of someone I can’t quite place. Regardless, a man who can pull off being in control and playful has definite merits. Like “spank me until my body aches in want, and then make a game of hitting each erogenous zone with his tongue before he’ll satisfy that ache he created and let me come” type of merits. The mind-blowing-sex reward just became even more appealing.       HeadShot ColorNew York Times Bestselling author K. Review & New Release: SWEET CHEEKS by K. Bromberg!

sweetcheeks

Release Date: November 14th, 2016

Type: Stand-Alone, Well-loved author, Contemporary, Romance, Second Chance Romance

My Review: K. Bromberg is one of those authors I've heard about for years, with everyone saying how much they loved her Driven series. I finally jumped on the Driven bandwagon this year, and read the first two books - and the third is sitting on my nightstand for whenever I get free time. And I get it, I understand why everyone loves her stuff. Her stories are compelling, her characters realistic, and the whole thing is just plain addicting. Seriously, everything I've picked up by her, I've been unable to put down.

And Sweet Cheeks is no exception. I'm a huge fan of second chance romances anyways, but this took it to a whole new level. I didn't want to put it down - so thank goodness I had the entire evening free to devour this. In fact, I think I liked this even more than the Driven series - or at least the two books in that series I've read thus far. Do yourself a favor and go add this to your TBR list now!

Cover Lovin': Uh, heck yes!

Recommendation: Stand-alone, so there's no backstory needed!

Final Rating: FOUR AND A HALF out of FIVE stars! Love, love, love! And you will too!

Happy Reading!

The man who has captured the hearts of millions. But I gave him mine years ago. He was my first love. He was my everything. Right until he up and left to chase his dreams without so much as a simple goodbye. When he showed up out of the blue ten years later, I should have known to steer clear of him. I should have rejected his offer to take me to my ex’s wedding. I should have never let him kiss me. But I didn’t. And now we’re left wondering if the pieces of the life we once shared still fit together somehow. First loves are hard to forget. The question is, do we want to forget? Since then she has written The Driven Series (Driven, Fueled, Crashed, Raced, Aced), the standalone Driven Novels (Slow Burn, Sweet Ache, Hard Beat, and Down Shift), and a novella (UnRaveled). She is currently finishing up Sweet Cheeks a standalone novel out November 14th. Her plans for 2017 include a sports romance duet (2 books: The Player, The Catch) and the Everyday Heroes series (3 books: Cuffed, Combust, and Cockpit). She’s also writing a novella for the 1,001 Dark Night series that will be out in February 2017. She loves to hear from her readers so make sure you check her out on social media.

Weekly Reading Update 8/26 - 9/08/16!

Another week, another update… As always, click the title for more information!

So we’ve got a double whammy this week, since I was sick all last week and didn’t get a chance to do an update. I got a cold, and man, this thing sticks around! I am still exhausted and a little stuffy, and it’s been over a week and a half! I did manage to get some reading done, but just for-pleasure reads, not much in the way of reviews. Alas.

I went through a huge interlibrary loan read-fest - trying to get some stuff off my account. I’ve been holding on to them forever, so I figured it was about time I went through them all. And what better time than when I’m stuck in bed! I started off with The Raider by Jude Deveraux - this is apparently a famous one, and it was definitely interesting. But it was definitely typical of the 1980s historical romances. Next I moved on to Fueled by K. Bromberg - the second book in the Driven series. I really enjoyed the first one, and this one ended on a huge cliffhanger! Arg - thank goodness I was able to request the third through interlibrary loan right away.

Next I moved on to Finding Fraser by K.C. Dyer. Goodreads suggested this one to me - probably because I loved Outlander so much. It was an entertaining read, but I don’t think it was anything truly miraculous. After that, I went back into my Kristen Ashley reading binge. I’m bound and determined to figure out why this author is so well loved, considering I don’t really like her Unfinished Heroes series. So I read The Will - and it was good, there were quite a few things I liked but… still, no magic. And then I read Rock Chick, and I think I finally get it! I really enjoyed Rock Chick - enough that it is now on my wish-list! I can’t wait to read the second one.

I may have mentioned more than a few times that I’m a librarian - I also order books, specifically romance and graphic novels. Fitting, don’t you think? Well, anyways, when looking for books to purchase, I came across the best title ever - Must Love Wieners by Casey Griffin. And with a title like that? Of course I had to get it for the library! And request it for myself - it was adorable! I had to add this to my wish-list too. It just keeps getting longer and longer…

Next up were some short reads, because this is when I was getting really sick and tired - even having to call off work a few days. Sigh. So I read Spider-Gwen volume 0: Most Wanted? By Jason Latour. I’m not a fan of the spideys, but a friend has been desperate for me to read Spider-Gwen. It was okay… I requested the next volume, so we’ll see. Next was a short nonfiction title, Ireland: The Land of the Hundred Thousand Welcomes by Clare Gallagher. This was a random find, but so cute. I love Ireland, and this was filled with proverbs, translations, history, mythology, and modern facts. Next was Beauty by Laurell K. Hamilton, a very short story in the Anita Blake series. I’m mostly over Anita, but I do pick up any of the short stories from time to time, to see if I want to commit to reading the series again - so far, nope. And last of the shorties - Nightshades by Melissa F. Olson. This was one of the Tor.com novellas, and it was so good! An excellent take on vampires, or as they call them, Shades. It needs to be a series pronto!

I finished up by doing a lot of re-reads - something common for me when I get sick. Mostly because I can fall asleep while reading, pick it up at a random place, and still understand what’s going on. So I read Sex, Lies, and Vampires by Katie MacAlister, part of her Dark Ones series. Then I switched over to her Dragons series, and read You Slay Me and Fire Me Up. I do love Aisling and Drake, but there were quite a few times I wanted to smack Drake over the head. Bossy, grumpy dragon. Hmph!

That’s it for me this week!

Happy Reading!

Weekly Reading Update 7/8 - 7/14/16!

Another week, another update! As always, click the title for more information.

It feels like I have been super busy this week, but I’m not sure that’s really true. I think I’m just exhausted. We’re down five employees at work, so we’re all rushing at work to get everything done. Unfortunately, this means I’m worn out by the time I get home, and so I haven’t read too much. Mostly shorter books.

I finally read Driven by K. Bromberg. I’ve read another book by this a while ago, a later book in the series. I can see why people are so obsessed with it. I had to request the second book from the library, and I’m not sure how much longer I can stand to wait for it. There were quite a few moments where I wanted to shake both of the main characters, so they would come to their senses about each other. But in general, the first book has that tension that I enjoy so much in my romances.

I read a couple more Tor.com novellas. I’m working my way through all the ones my library system owns - I’m pretty addicted. I read Pieces of Hate by Tim Lebbon, as well as The Last Witness by K.J. Parker. Honestly, Pieces of Hate didn’t work for me. It’s a classic case of “great idea in theory, not so much in execution.” sigh. But The Last Witness was good. Not as amazing as some of the other novellas, but still a good read.

I’m still working my way through the Aftershock series by Jill Sorenson. Book three, Badlands, is Owen and Penny’s story, and I have been looking forward to this since book one! Just like the previous books in the series, this was another awesome romantic suspense, and one that immediately went on my wish-list upon finishing. I already have the next book, which is a quick novella in a book with another author. Honestly, I’m so eager to read Jill Sorenson’s story that I might just skip the other story in the book…

I finally got the chance to read Stuck-Up Suit by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. I loved it! I can see why it got so much good press in the romance community. It was another instant wish-list book. And now I’m going to have to find what else these two authors have written together.

I read Someone Like You by Jennifer Gracen for Romance Reviews Today. It was a good read, I really liked it, but it took me forever to read because I had so much other stuff going on. Tossing in the titles of a few other quick reads from this week - Learning to Ride by Erin Knightley, Batman & Robin Eternal Volume 1 by Scott Snyder, and Dead Things by Stephen Blackmoore. I read Learning to Ride because I wanted to give one of those Bookshots novellas a chance.. But I hate James Patterson, so I refused to read one of his books. Luckily another couple authors joined in the trend. Batman & Robin Eternal was awesome, and I can’t wait for the next volume. And Dead Things was read for our paranormal book club at work - it was so good. Amazing character development and story, despite it being less than 300 pages.

See you next week!

Happy Reading!

My Review: I've had this book for a while. When I was offered it to review, I was in my rock star phased, and before I got the chance to read this, I had fallen into another phase of some sort, and this got left behind. So imagine how excited I was to get back into my rocker phase so I can read this book and fully enjoy it!

I'll start off with what I liked most about this book - I thought the character's reactions to the curve balls life threw at them were incredibly accurate. Everything felt true to the character's state of mind, and what was expected of them. And, quite often, the characters did exactly what I would have in the same situation - which just confirmed how real they felt to me.

I also loved the story itself. I'm a sucker for the misunderstanding. And it goes back to my love of "Bet Me" by Jennifer Crusie - I love the whole "I made a bet but I'm willing to lose because I love you" story trope. Honestly, if "Sweet Ache" is any indication of the rest of K. Bromberg's books, I will be picking them up in the future.

Now to what I didn't like so much - and this is most likely a nit-picky thing only because I was so recently getting a graduate degree. Quin talks about her thesis, but procrastinates so often. It's barely mentioned here and there that she got some work done on it. But I remember the end of graduate school - it's a big deal. It's basically pass/fail, and determines whether or not you graduate. I know the relationship is the main story, obviously - but don't let falling in love ruin your chances, Quin! Don't do that to yourself!

Cover Lovin': So, when this was offered to me, I jumped on it - mostly because of the cover. Thumbs up!

Recommendation: While this book is book 6 of a series, no need to be familiar with the previous books! This works just fine as a stand-alone. Though I'd love more from the band...

Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE (4/5)! I thought this book was a fun read. I didn't want to put it down once I got started. But what really stuck with me was how real Hawke dealt with the tragedies in this life.
