Feed The Shark Counting Game

To make the shark for this game I used a sand bucket that I got from the Dollar Store.  I cut two rows of teeth and a fin out of foam sheets and taped them to the bucket, then I added two big eyes.

I put fish, also cut out of foam, in a basket and number dice.IMG_2612

Aiden rolled the dice and feed the correct number of fish to the shark.

I had to laugh ~ every time he feed the shark he would throw the fish in the sharks mouth really quickly so the shark wouldn’t bite him.

Letter or Number ~ Sorting Activity

Aiden hasn’t quite grasped the difference between letters and numbers.  When we are working on counting he will say “that is the letter two”.   To help him understand what is a number and what is a letter we “fished” for letters and numbers and sorted them.

I added foam numbers and letters to a container of water and gave Aiden a small drainer to fish them out.

I printed pages titled Letters and Numbers, put them in page protectors so the letters and numbers would stick, and taped them to the wall.

Aiden fished a letter or number out of the bucket, said what it was (with help from Mommy) and stuck it to the Letter or Number sheet.

We packed a lot of learning into our 15 minutes of fun!  Aiden worked on sorting, naming the numbers and letters of the alphabet and colors.

Fish Bubble Counting File Folder Game

We are heading to the beach later this month.  The kids are quite excited since this is their first trip to see the ocean.  For the next couple of weeks we will be learning about all the animals that inhabit the ocean.

To try and add in some math fun I made Aiden a Fish Bubble Counting File Folder Game ~ counting 1 to 10.

He counts the number of bubbles and picks the fish with the correct number.  I added Velcro dots to the fish and the file folder game.  I colored the dots on the file folder blue, with a permanent marker, so he would not mistake them for one of the fish bubbles.

I’ll post more about how we played the game tomorrow in my Preschool Corner post.

The Hungry Chameleon ~ Counting 0 - 10

I made a simple counting game for Aiden ~ The Hungry Chameleon.  Pick a number card and put the correct number of flies on his tongue to feed him.

Butterfly Number Matching File Folder Game

This week we are learning about caterpillars and butterflies.   To go along with our theme and help Aiden work on the numbers 0 – 10, I made a Butterfly Number Matching File Folder Game.

The download includes butterflies with spots ~ count the number of spots and match the butterfly to the correct flowerimage

and butterflies with spots and numbers ~ match the number on the butterfly to the number on the flower.

Here is how we played:

I hung the butterflies from the ceiling,

gave Aiden a butterfly net, and let him catch them.  As he pulled them out of the net, he told me the color of the butterfly (all of the butterflies are different colors so we could work on colors too!) and he counted the spots and said the number.

I had to keep hanging the butterflies up so he could do it again and again!  Later in the week I will help him match the butterflies to the numbers on the flowers.
