MSSM 2009 - Upsets

Berikut adalah upsets yang GiLoCatur observe di MSSM 2009.

• Siti Aisyah (seeded keempat) tewas kepada Aina Najihah (seeded ke-20) dalam pusingan pertama
• Najiha (seeded ketiga) tewas  kepada Nithyalakshmi dalam pusingan ketiga
• Najiha tewas kepada Chew Ee Wen dalam pusingan keempat
• Shreyes (seeded keenam) tewas kepada pemain Terengganu, Ahmad Syawal Iddil
• Alia (seeded pertama) tewas kepada Hoh Tjin Li pada pusingan kedua
• Latifah Kaisyah (seeded ketiga) tewas kepada Alya Farah pada pusingan kedua
• Renitha Narayanan (seeded kelima) tewas kepada Yeoh Hui Wen (seeded ke-25) dalam pusingan kedua.

Analisa keputusan yang dapat GiLoCatur simpulkan:

• Bagi kategori L18, hanya keputusan setakat pusingan yang ketiga diketahui. 

• Bagi kategori P18, board pertama dikuasai oleh pemain-pemain bukan top seed. Mungkinkan juara individu bagi kategori P18 bukan dari kalangan yang top seeded? 

• Bagi kategori L15, Yeap Eng Chiam dari KL masih lagi leading. Beliau memperolehi perfect score 4 mata memasuki pusingan ke-5. Beliau akan bertemu dengan pemain Pulau Pinang, Elgin yang juga setakat ini menang kesemua pusingan 

• Bagi kategori P15, hanya Vickie Hong Wee Ki dari Selangor yang masih belum tewas sebarang pusingan. Berjayakah beliau menjuarai kategori ini setelah upset yang berlaku kepada Alia?  

• Bagi kategori L12, Yeoh Li Tian masih lagi on-track untuk memenangi kategori ini. Hanya beliau setakat ini yang menang ke semua game. Dalam pusingan kelima esok, beliau akan bertemu dengan rakan senegeri Irfan Haqqim yang memiliki 3.5 mata. Aziz Farhan dari KL akan bertemu dengan pemain Terengganu, Ahmad Syawal Iddil, yang membuat kejutan memperolehi 3.5 mata di meja kedua 

• Bagi kategori P12, Nur Nabila juga masih lagi on-track untuk menjuarai kategori ini. Seperti Li Tian, hanya beliau yang masih belum tewas sebarang pusingan. Esok beliau akan bertemu dengan pemain seeded kedua dari KL iaitu Tan Li Ting. Chew Ee Wen, yang juga pemain dari Selangor, akan menentang Siti Aisyah dari Terengganu di meja kedua.

MSSM 2009 Team Event - Round 4

KL and Kedah, both after 3 wins, face each other. Five other teams including Selangor have 4 points each.

In the Under 18 Girls section, only Johor and Kelantan with the perfect 6 points after 3 wins. Selangor faces KL on the second board.

In L15 category, four states shares 5 points including Selangor. It faces Johor on the first board.

Three top teams with 5 points are Sabah, Kelantan and Kedah. Sabah faces Kelantan on the first board.

In L12 category, both Selangor and KL plays each other in the first board. Both states won all their 3 games so far. 

In P12 section, once again the rivalry between Selangor and KL take place. Selangor the only team so far with the perfect 3 wins, needs to win this important game to continue its hope to be win this team event.

The unofficial result for Under 12 categories are :

• KL won the Boys section with 3 - 1 score
• Selangor won the Girls section also with the same scoreline, 3 - 1

MSSM 2009

MSSM (Malaysian Schools Sport Council) Chess Championship is on the way at Goldcourse Hotel, Klang. The 5-day event is being hosted by Selangor state this year. There are two events - Individual and Team for six categories - U12, U15 and U18 for both boys and girls each. Each state will be represented by two players in the individual event whereas the team event will follow the four-player format. Both events will use seven-round Swiss system. 

GiLoCatur's daughter, Anis Fariha, is playing for the host state team in the Team event. She plays the fourth board.

Below are the list of players for the Individual event for each categories.

In the Under 18 Boys section, Selangor is represented by Muhd Tariq Amru and Joel Tan Weng Yu who are seeded 2nd and 12th respectively. The top seed is Justin Ong Way from KL team. Can he be the champion? GiLoCatur believes Tariq (SEL), Sumant (PHG) and Afiq Afify (SWK) will be the challengers for Justin. 

For Under 18 Girls section, GiLoCatur does not know most of them. Only Nurul Akila from KL and Renitha Narayanan from JHR are familiar names. The top seed is Charlene Chaising Tien (SWK) and Siti Nuradila (PER) follows second.

In the Under 15 Boys category, Yeap Eng Chiam is the strongest player in the list. Selangor is represented by Low sibblings - Jun Jian and Jun Keat. Nabil Azman and Syakeer Azhar, the other notable players, are playing in the team event. The other players who are the challengers in GiLoCatur's opinion is Evan Timothy Capel from Penang and FongYit San from Perak.

In the Under 15 Girls section, Alia Anin Azwa from Melaka is the strongest player. She is the current NWM (National Women Master). Unless there is an upset, she will be the champion for this category. Can Amirah Syahmina and Vickie Hong Wee Ki, the Selangor players, make upset? Let's see. Olivia Madhavan, the daughter of Mr Collin, and Latifah Kaisyah, both from KL and Sarika Subramaniam from Pahang are the other strong challengers. 

Selangor are represented by strong players in Yeoh Li Tian and Mohd Irfan Haqqim. Li Tian is seeded first while Irfan is seeded 7th. The top challengers in  the opinion of GiLoCatur are Aziz Farhan (KL) and Shreyes Subramaniam (PHG). GiLoCatur would also like to follow the performance of Amier Hamzah from KL. This young talented player is still below 9 years old. No doubt he will dominate the Under 12 section in years to come.

In under 12 Girls category, Selangor's hope to win gold medal is on the shoulder of Nur Nabila Azman. Her younger sister also participates in the individual event. Can they make it 1-2 ? Another Selangor player, Chew Ee Wen, is also playing in the event. Can Tan Li Ting from KL and Siti Aisyah, the daughter of Cikgu Sabirin, from Terengganu challenge Nabila? Let's see how the results is gonna be on Friday.

Kejohanan Catur MSSM 2009

Petang tadi GiLoCatur menghantar anak, Anis Fariha, ke Hotel Goldcourse di Kelang. Anis akan menyertai Kejohanan Catur MSSM 2009 mewakili pasukan P12 untuk Negeri Selangor yang akan bermula pada hari Isnin depan. Sebanyak 7 pusingan akan diadakan selama 5 hari pertandingan bagi dua kategori - Individu dan Berpasukan.

Ramailah guru-guru pengiring dan pengurus pasukan negeri dan ibubapa pemain catur yang GiLoCatur ketemu di hotel tersebut terutamanya bagi kontigen negeri Selangor - Encik Azhar MS, Encik Azman Hisham, Mr Yeoh Chin Seng, Mr Low, Mr Ajeet Singh, Encik Akbar, Cikgu Suhairi, dan Cikgu Rizal.

Untuk makluman, venue pertandingan adalah di Tingkat 8, Emerald Room, Hotel Goldcourse Kelang.

Insya Allah, GiLoCatur akan cuba membuat liputan (coverage) kejohanan catur MSSM tersebut. Semoga liputan itu nanti boleh menyemarakkan sukan catur di negara ini. 

Attractive Prizes for Klang Chess Open

For category 1 (Rapid Open), 15 prizes are to be won for the Open section whereas 10 prizes for JAIS players. In total for the 25 prizes, RM 3,550 (RM 2, 200 + RM 1,350) is allocated for this category. 

For Category 2 (Rapid Age-group), 10 prizes totalling RM 1,350 is for the Under 18 players to win. While for Under 10, both Open and Jais, there are 15 prizes each. In total, RM 2,160 is the amount for Under 12 categories. 

There are also several consolation prizes to be won. So lots and lots of prizes for the tournament.
