I made a Word Work discovery!

Do you ever get so used to what you have been doing that you forget to look for something new? That happened to me this week.

We are just beginning our training on Word Work in Daily 5. I have the usual assortment of  magnetic letters, tiles, doodle boards, etc. Well, as I was standing in Camille's room visiting with her during recess I started poking into her little Word Work drawers. (We just happened to be standing in front of them and I couldn't resist. We are pretty casual in our grade level and look at each other's stuff all the time, which is great!)

Anyway, lo and behold I discovered 2 NEW things. It was very exciting! I am sure they aren't new to anyone else, but in my defense, I have no little children at home anymore and so my exposure is rather limited. This combined with the fact that my husband is the Walmart shopper, means I am somewhat sheltered! ;)
Here they are:

This prompted me to head back run to my computer to see where I could purchase these items.  (I found them at Amazon, but they may also be available at your Walmart and Target.)

I decided to redo my Word Work area, so I made some new tags for my canvas drawers.

Happy Saturday! Daily 5 Management Set

Hi everyone! I hope you are having a great Saturday.
Today I have a preview of something really fun! It is a set to help manage Daily 5. It is 30+ pages total. I am especially excited about the Procedure Review cards. I am going to laminate mine and put them on rings. I just listed it on  Teachers Pay Teachers.

We started doing Daily 5 at our school about 4 years ago and haven't looked back since. . .we love it!

Daily Five Choice Cards-Read to Self, Work on Writing, Listen to Reading, Word Work (clip art from Scrappin Doodles)

Here are the cards for the Daily 5 Pocket Chart system I am using for the children to track their choices for Daily 5 during the day. It is working out wonderfully! There is a picture on an earlier post of the pocket chart.

More Daily 5 . . .

I liked Camille's idea for having the children play a role in keeping track of their own Daily 5 choices so much, that I decided to put my own spin on it using materials that I had on hand-

The pocket chart was originally a behavior chart (the type with the colored cards) from Lakeshore Learning, and I downloaded the clip art from Scrappin Doodles. The children choose and keep track of their Daily 5 choice by inserting the matching cards behind their name. They LoVe it!

Daily 5...

My first post... I am so excited to share with you my Daily 5 checkoff board. I just started using it today, and it was totally slick. When the students get to school as part of their morning routine, they pick their Daily 5 choices for that day. Right now we are only doing 2 rounds of Daily 5, because we are still building stamina. Every student in my class also does writing for the last Daily 5, so that is why they can only pick it once throughout the week. I like the board, because I have some control over their choices and the best part is they don't even know:) In years past, I always had students asking have I done read to self today or they would pick the same Daily 5 all the time. This way, they know what they have chosen and they have to pick certain ones more often throughout the week.
