These are not , yet, in my garden. But I was so delighted this morning , to see the first little spears of daffodils poking through the bark in the flower beds. that, to me, is always the first sign of Spring. I shall go and peer at them every day to see if they have grown.
There is something so cheering about the first sign of Spring, especially in a cold wet January. Pools of water lie on our drive. Branches from the next door Birch tree have been blown down. the sky is grey.
Yet, here is a sign of hope.
Psalm 74, vv15 -17
You opened up springs of hope, you dried up ever-flowing rivers,
The day is yours,and also the night; you established the sun and the moon;
It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth,
You made both Summer and Winter'
So we have a new season to look forward to, new burgeoning, new beginnings. Buds opening in the garden, primroses, snowdrops putting up their green shoots. Even my country Living magazine features Spring! The year begins to be hopeful again.
Waaaaaah, I want to cry. We are covered in snow and in the 20s so daffodils are a long way off! Thank you for sharing yours though. :-)
ReplyDeleteWe are still covered in snow here in Idaho, but I'm hoping for an early spring also, sweet chickadee,
ReplyDeleteSmooches for THE MAN!!

Most cheering. But our daffodils are the hibernating and won't get out of bed until March variety. They always seem to be last and yet we are not exposed here. Aconites, now, are very early and very pretty, chirpy, cheeky little flowers, beautifully and mathematically constructed. All brilliant yellow and long lasting. Sad they should be so poisonous. But then who would want to eat one?
ReplyDeleteWe'd normally expect to see those very same signs of spring on the Island by now - but not this year. The cold and snow have delayed everything, but I'll take a walk on the weekend to see if there is anything poking up through the earth - ever hopeful!
ReplyDeleteAlmost time. But today I have much needed rain and I am so thankful to God for a touch of winter, finally!

Elizabethd,
ReplyDeleteI am so excited too when spring comes! Blossoms, fragrances in the air, and baby birds chirping.
My daffodils are poking up their little green sprouts.
I love to read Psalms.
Waiting for spring,
Miriam
How lovely to see this first sign of spring! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Carolien
Hooray for daffs! It seems you and I are both focusing on the arrival of Spring...even if it is a few weeks away yet! I can't wait!! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, how exciting about your daffodils!! ;)
ReplyDeleteWe are enjoying pleasant rain showers here in California....and it is ever so lovely! Enjoying this winter season, but also looking forward to spring like yourself.
Many Blessings,
Miss Jen
I love those yellow daffodils that push their heads up in the early spring. Even the crocuses that push up through the snow, give signs of spring and gives new hope to those who weary of winter.
ReplyDeleteI understand why Terri wants to cry because it will be months yet before she sees such a sight in her neck of the woods.
Thanks for sharing these beautiful flowers with us, Elizabeth.
Hugs,
Dianne
You know spring will be here before we know it! I know you'll enjoy your beautiful flowers soon. :)
ReplyDeleteAlthough there is snow in the forecast once again...we had a few almost balmy days this past week. The days are noticeably longer...and I'm beginning to think about spring as well.
ReplyDeleteAhhh, spring. New beginnings and a time of hope that winter will soon be leaving.
ReplyDeleteI am ready anytime for spring to come and visit.
