This week Kimberly Crawford is our host. Kim is challenging us to no coloring. You can use solid images or use a technique to showcase outline stamps in a non-colored way. There are many techniques from paper piecing, embossing, glittered, or heat embossing to name a few. Whichever you decide, would love to see what you create!

Up first this week is Kimberly Crawford. Kimberly is using the Cherries and Peaches stamp set. This is gorgeous, Kim!!! I just love the colors and patterns. For the no coloring challenge, Kim paper pieced the leaves and used some red glitter for the cherries. It makes them look mouth-watering sweet!!! Beautiful detailing and design, Kim!!!

Next up is Silke Ledlow . Silke is using the I Love Roses stamp set. Beautiful colors and piercing detailing, Silke!!! For the no coloring challenge, Silker paper pieced the leaves and the rose using different patterns to create visual interest. She also used the paper tole technique to create dimension and depth with the rose. Wonderful looking card, Silke!!!

Up next is Betty Wright. For my card, I am using Poinsettias and Boxwood set. I am using some basicgray lemonade dp. I used the paper tole technique as well. I embossed with a snowflake pattern that mimics the pinking nestabilities shaped framing. I added some gold wheat shimmerz and kaleidescope embossing powder for added sparkle. I finished with some pearls, gold cording, and a satin and sheer ribbon bow!!!






Cindy Haffner is up next. Cindy is using the Coffee with Friends and Strawberries stamp set. Wonderful colors and textures, Cindy. Cindy paper pieced the cup using some basicgray dp. She embossed the background and used the same background embossing on the cup. She finished her card with a silver cord frame and some lace with ribbon combination. Beautifully done, Cindy!!!

Limelight Week 4 with Makiko -- Bath Gift Set

Hello everyone. It's Makiko and this is my last post being in the Limelight! I think you have already noticed that I LOVE Flourishes stamps, lol. I just got the newly released set, Cherries and Peaches. Of course, I had to get them dirty :):) Did I mention my other addiction is buying stamp supplies?? LOL.

For today's project, I embellished a bath set to match a cute card. As a stamper/paper crafter, I love decorating gifts and adding a personal touch, and I love seeing the smiles when I give them :) Embellishing gifts also gives the impression that you got them from a specialty store, don't you think? As a matter of fact, those bath bottles are sold at major discount stores ;)

Here is the close-up

I stamped the sentiment & the word "peach"on Flourishes classic white cardstock, then it was sponged with wasabi green ink. I layered it under the apricot mat that was cut out with Nestabilities label four and embossed with the embossing folder so that it peeked from behind the window. The peach image was stamped on the classic cardstock and colored with Prismapencil colors, then blended with Odorless Mineral Spirits (OMS). I also used Twinkling H2O's (chestnut brown) to emhasize the shadows.

The colored peach was trimmed and mounted as you see. I embellished the card with the silk ribbon, rhinestones and decorative corners. I made a step by step tutorial slide show on how I colored the peach image on the bottom of the post if you are interested! ;)


Using the heavy duty adhesive tape, the bath bottle was wrapped with 2 mats that were cut out with Nestablities label four (the largest die). I folded the mats in half and scored the other folding line to fit the side of the bottle. The ribbons were wrapped around the mat and the bottle lid. The sentiment was shaped to fit the circle mat when it was stamped. After the mat was sponged, I adhered the colored and trimmed peach image on the same mat and embellished the rhinestones.

Flourishes Focus: Masking

Hey everyone~

Cindy here! :) Today I'm going to share a tutorial on masking using Eclipse Masking Tape. Have you seen it? It's in the Flourishes store, and it truly is the best product I've used for masking images.


Today I'm taking you "back to basics" with a simple form of masking.

I started my project by stamping an image from the Poppy Patch set three times on Classic White cardstock. I used Palette Hybrid Noir Black ink.


Now, I wanted my flowers to look more natural, like they would in a garden. So I decided to stamp a couple more flowers in between. In order to do this without overlapping the lines of my images, I needed to mask the images I had already stamped.

So, I stamped a couple more poppies onto my Eclipse Masking Tape, and cut them out.


Next, I stuck the stamped Eclipse Tape directly over my stamped images and proceeded to stamp the remaining poppies. Here you can see me peeling off the last "mask".


I used to use Post-it notes for masking; but this stuff is sooo much better! I definitely did not know what I was missing until I tried it! For one, the Eclipse Tape is sticky all over; so there's no chance of it slipping or moving and ruining your project. It is completely re-usable as well, since it doesn't lose it's stickiness. I store my masks with my Flourishes stamp sets, stuck right to the side! :)

Here's my finished card. I just love the dimension and depth you get from something so simple as masking off a couple of flowers! How easy is that!?

Stamps: Poppy Patch

Papers: Classic White, Basic Black, Sweetbay Designer Paper

Inks: Palette Hybrid Noir Black, Copic Markers: Poppy Collection, Evergreen Collection, C7 from the Cool Neutrals Collection, BG11 from the Water Collection

Accessories: White Pearls (dyed black with Copic Marker), Angel Wings Shimmerz Paint, Black Satin Ribbon, Black Crocheted Lace Ribbon

I really wanted to show you a second sample using masking in a different way; but I just ran out of time. I did start the card; so I'll show you quickly another masking technique without a finished sample at the end.


I know...what a tease, huh?! I tore the edge of my roll of Eclipse Tape and adhered it to the bottom edge of a folded card base. Then I used the Palette Hybrid Landscape pad and a sponge dauber to sponge ink all along the exposed edge. This is a terrific technique to use when you want to add the "illusion" of layers of cardstock, without actually adding the layers. Stay tuned this coming week on my blog for the full reveal of this card. ;)

Our final brush with royalty!

We are winding down our anniversary month here at Flourishes and we hope you've had as much fun as we have! Trust us, we have a little more fun up our sleeves to honor our loyal followers, you'll just have to stick around to find out what is in store! ;-)

As we wrap up the crowning of our Royal Court, we are honoring a lady who was not only the very first customer to buy a set of Flourishes stamps, she was also the very first person to upload a card using Flourishes stamps to the Splitcoast company gallery! Wow!

To say we owe a debt of gratitude to this fine designer would be an understatement! So, we took some extra time to polish her crown to match the others in the Flourishes Royal Court. Without further ado, we hereby crown.....

Rose Ann has been there from day one and continues to be a supporter of Flourishes. She probably has no idea how wonderful that makes everyone behind the scenes feel! She added a double ribbon with bow to complete her beautiful card. Wonderfully done, Liz!!! Beautiful card!!!










Next up is Silke Ledlow . Silke is using the newly released Gerbera Daisies stamp set. Silke is using the Flourishes classic white cardstock. Silke colored the gerbera daisies using the Flourishes Copic Color Collections in Tea Rose, Hollyhock, and Fields. Silke colored and cut out one of the butterflies that come in this set. She added silver pearl detailing as well as some pink shimmerz. Beautifully done, Silke!!!










Up next is Betty Wright. For my card, I am using Flourishes newly released Gerbera Daisies set. I am using Flourishes classic white cardstock. This cardstock is wonderful for coloring with copics. I am using Flourishes Copic Color Collection in Dusty Rose, Daffodil, Tiger Lily, Fields, and Evergreen. For the pearl challenge, I added a few pearls to the opposite corners that I colored to coordinate using markers. I also added a few to the bottom of the main image.









Cindy Haffner is up next. Cindy is using the newly released Figs and Pomegranate stamp set. Cindy is using Flourishes classic white cardstock. She colored the pomegranates with Flourishes Copic Color Collections in Dusty Rose, Poppy, and Spring Greens. Cindy layered different shaped nestabilities and added touches of halfback pearls. Cindy is also using some pearlized red cardstock for added visual effect. Beautifully done, Cindy!!!










Last up this week is Kimberly Crawford. Kimberly is using the Vintage Wallpaper background stamp set. She stamped the image and added copic altered pearls for an added touch of contrast. She finished the look with a pop of dark pink ribbon. Lovely card, Kim!

Limelight Week 3 with Makiko -- Mod Podging Mulberry Paper

Hello, it's Makiko. Welcome back everyone for my 3rd project in the Limelight!

Today, I played with the beautiful silhouette stamps, Summer Blossoms and some mulberry paper. I love the texture of mulberry paper, and the technique I used for this card is basically how I used to play with diluted water glue and shouji papers - Japanese thin washi papers that are used for screens- when I was a child. This time, I used silhouette images instead of drawing with permanent markers, used dye inks instead of color pencils/crayons, and Mod Podge instead of diluted water glue. These items are much easier and faster to finish the technique, lol.

This is how I created the mulberry mat. It is very easy and fun! I hope you will try it for your future projects.
I stamped the images on the mat - Flourishes classic ivory cardstock with black ink (I used Memento tuxedo black).

Using sponges & dye inks, I blended the colors as the photo shown.

Using a foam brush, I spread Mod Podge over the entire mat.

Then I covered a piece of mulberry paper on the mat.


I trimmed the mulberry paper & mat after it was dried. Then I covered Mod Podge over the finished mat with using the foam brush. And I repeated it again.

After it dries completely and the Mod Podge is still sticky, you can spray Fixatif over the finished mat. If the mulberry paper is still peeling away from the mat, you may need to cover it with Mod Podge again.

Those flowers were colored with Prismacolor pencils and then I blended them with OMS (Odorless Mineral Spirits). I also colored with Twinkling H2O's (cinammon brown) to add the more red & orange look. Then I adhered on the die-cut & ink distressed stems.

The sentiment is from Strawberries set and the flourish image on the background is from Ornamental Elements.

Friday Focus... Distressing

Happy Friday everyone! Stacy here today with your Friday Focus and its *Distressing*. Most of you know my style is very clean with lots of white space. However I have been known to throw some extra's onto a card. So I am going to show you *my* levels of distressing that I do on cards and still keep with my clean and crisp feeling that I love.

I have kept the cards all the same so you can see what each one looks like with different levels of distressing. I have used the beautiful Lace Heart set as well as some Finishing touches for each card.

Here is what I consider a light distressing. I have only distressed two corners on both panels. It adds a little bit of texture but keeps it still very clean and smooth. Now, I use an actual tool that is called a Distressor, but before I had this tool I just used my scissors and that works well too.

This is my medium distressing. I did the two panels on this one. Still keeping the idea of some extra textures but not over doing it.


Here is what I consider heavy distressing. I ruffed up all the layers except the card base. Still very much to my clean style, but adds a little more for the eye to see.

And, below is a group picture of the cards so you can see the big picture!

Whether you like to rough up your edges just a little, or you like to take it to the max, distressing is a fun way to add a little extra interest and add a little extra texture. You can use lots of different materials to distress to - use the distressing tool, use some scissors, take some sandpaper or a sanding block and rough up the edges. Most importantly - use your imagination!

Royalty Through Loyalty

I have to tell you, as the owner of the finest stamp company around, it has been such an honor to "crown" some of the gems in our business this month. As we blow out the candles on our second year, we have had quite a few customers who believed in us as we opened the door on this company. Many of those customers have stuck with us and are by our side today. There are no words for the gratitude we feel towards these fine ladies!

We knew when we started our birthday celebration, we wanted to honor those loyal Flourishes fans by "crowning" them as Flourishes royalty! One of the ladies we crowned exclaimed recently that she loves her crown so much, she wears it to clean house! We love her style!

Today, we have a few more crowns to hand out! We've polished them up and they are ready to go. This time, we are honoring those customers who have been with us since the beginning, are still with us and in fact, probably own most... if not ALL... of the sets we've released! We can't say enough about their loyalty!

We hereby crown these fine customers to our royal court!

These fine ladies will join Lois Bak, our "Queen" along with royals Liz Williams and Linda Lucas on our Royal Court! Ladies, we'll be sending some special goodies your way. We hope you know how much we appreciate you! Up next is Betty Wright. For my card I am using Flourishes All that Glitters and Sleigh Ride stamp sets. I have been in the mood to make a few Christmas cards as I go. Never to early to get started on these. I am using Flourishes classic white cardstock which is wonderful for coloring with copics. I am also using Flourishes Copic Color Collections in Poppy, Dusty Rose, Spring Greens, and Fields. I am using spellbinders square and rectangle diecuts. I finished my card with some warm sponging, gold pearls, and gold cording detailing.

Last up this week is Cindy Haffner. Cindy is using the newly released Gerbera Daisies stamp set, too. This is beautiful, Cindy!!! I love how Cindy has white daisies with detailed golden centers and the area around her flower is colored. Cindy is using Flourishes classic white cardstock. She colored the daisies with Flourishes Copic Color Collections in Daffodils and Spring Greens. I love the added dimensional butterfly which comes in this set. Cindy finished her card with some texture, lace, and gingham ribbon detailing. Beautifully done, Cindy!!!

Limelight Week 2 with Makiko -- Making Own DP with DP

Hello everyone~ It's Makiko again Welcome to my second week of being in the Limelight!

For today's card, I stamped on some designer paper to make my own designer paper. To give it more texture, I also made it corrugated - after I dusted off my paper crimper, lol. I think one of the great things about stamping is that you can design own backgrounds. I do this a lot, even when I even use designer papers to make a card more my style. ;) Stamping on designer paper is so fun because the patterns peek through from behind the stamped image and gives it a unique design.


This is how I made the corrugated background.
I usually choose the subtle color dp when I stamp on it so that the images can be seen or blend in well. For this blue & white polka dots paper, I stamped the images from Seaside Life with black ink.


Next, I colored the images with Copics - the Warm Naturals collection & the Fresh Tone collection.


Last, I inserted the finished paper through the paper crimper and trimmed the mat to the finished size. Then I edged and DTPed the piece of paper with brown chalk ink & white pigment ink for a distressed finish.



The main seashell images were stamped on Flourishes Classic White cardstock and colored with Copics with the same collections that were used for the background. I also edged around the layers and used vintage embellishments to match to the distressed look.

The last image is the inside of the card. The left over mat was used for the border here :)
