Stampin' on Sunday ~ Butterfly Basics

It was "Back to School" last week, for me if not the children. The first classes of the new term. I decided to use the same set of stamps as I had in the last class of the Summer term. I like to show how versatile a set can be if you give it a little thought.

The mesh design, a postmark and that lovely sentiment from the Butterfly Basics set. Some speckling from Gorgeous Grunge and the intricate butterfly die, layered with a little punched one, to finish off.

Here I added my favourite Hardwood background stamp and punched out some hexagon apertures for that mesh to peep through. A different sentiment and some punched butterflies raised on foam pads for dimension.

This time I stamped the mesh and speckles onto a piece of card so that I could punch the hexagons out and add on top of the background mat. I thought this would make a good male card. It could be adapted to any colour scheme, but this is one I never grow tired of.

I'll share the final card from that class (and the story of the unexpected shed) on Wednesday. It's a glorious day here. Hope the sun is shining with you too.

Zoe was celebrating her 40th birthday weekend with us. Her football team were on the verge of promotion and she’d coloured her hair, ready for Wembley the following day. All proceeds from the crop went to the charity she is fundraising for.

There was fun and laughter, a fabulous lunch, more cake…..

…..and even some crafting.

Thanks go to Jan for all her hard work in organising the day, cooking up a storm and serving that lunch. To Julia for bringing us all together in the first place, keeping us in drinks and being such a charming host. To everyone that came along and made it the wonderful day it was. A special mention to Shaz and Janet who weren’t able to stay for the whole day and didn’t make an appearance in the group photo.

Some images shamelessly stolen borrowed from Jan and Zoe. Thank you.

What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday? #180

Back to the kitchen table this week.

P1020441

I’m cutting more pink strips for hexies. I started with this colour for the centre of the flower and then used the small floral print as the ‘petals’. The green stripe around that and now I need another round of the pink. You can see the other fabrics here.

I have a feeling that stitching these is going to be addictive. It’s the ideal thing to keep my hands busy, while I watch TV in the evening, or sit next to my husband while he snores in front of it!

Head on over to Julia’s place to see who else is taking part today.

Teal Flower Garden Block ~ Trial Run

I picked out some fabrics for my first attempt at a Grandmother’s Flower Garden block and cut a whole bunch of foundation papers ready to go.

P1020439

Having the die was a blessing. I cranked it through the Big Shot with five layers of thin card, which gave me twenty hexagons. Plenty for the first block. I ironed the fabrics and cut some 2 1/2” strips with my rotary cutter. Then cut across to make squares. I followed this tutorial to baste the fabric onto the paper.

The next step is to whip stitch the pieces together. If all goes well with this one, I’ll make another for the Team Teal Quilting Bee. I think this one will end up as the centre of a cushion for my daughter’s bedroom. I know she has her eye on it.

Anyone else having a go? It’s not too late. You can find my preparation post here, if you missed it.
