wedding wednesday: a magical moment

I had planned a different post for today's wedding wednesday but then I just came across this pin {a.k.a. on pinterest, for those of you not yet in the know!} and couldn't help but share:
magical, right?

pretty pictures: marion cotillard in elle france

This Sunday evening I've decided to share a fun fact about me: I think Marion Cotillard is this generation's Audrey Hepburn.  I know that this sought after statement has been claimed about many different actresses but I just feel it's MC.  Why?  Because she is not just classically beautiful but also perfectly quirky.  She is intelligent, talented, witty, endearing beyond words.  Perhaps saying she is our Audrey is too much because Audrey is too unique to be replicated (although some very talented models/stylists/photographers have done a decent job trying to capture her essence - exhibit A); regardless, Marion is timeless.  I just love her.  And I just love her in this editorial from the August Elle France :

happy, energetic, quirky, natural, all-in-all lovely.

wedding wednesday: waiting by the window

i really can't stop looking at this photograph, it fits in so well with the other "waiting by the window" images i've loved before [exhibits a, b, c].  but this is a real bride, on her real wedding day, looking just as amazing standing in front of a window as all those professional models --
i mean, really, does it get any better than this?!  perfect pose, perfect dress (that train! that bow!), perfect simple chignon, but mostly - a simply perfect photograph.
in one word : perfection

friday faves: 9.16.11 - pinterest

where did this past week go?  maybe it's just me, but it seems like just yesterday i was putting together a little list of faves to share but really it was a full seven days ago.  my own week has been filled with oodles of conflicts and challenges and cranky moments - but nothing i can't handle!  oh yes, bring it on, world!

unfortunately, i don't quite have time for a full friday faves post so i decided the best idea would be to direct you lovelies towards my pinterest page for tons and tons of beautiful and inspiring images.  {pssst - don't have pinterest yet?  let me know and i'll send you an invite!  because it's basically the greatest thing since sliced bread.  if sliced bread inhibited all forms of productive activity.}  i spend a tad too much time on pinterest, largely because of the handy iPad app, but this results in me having some absolutely gorgeous pins.  so poke around, enjoy, and if you have a page of your own - please let me know!  i'm always looking for new inspiration boards to follow :)

just one pretty picture to get you started ~

happy weekend!
xx, kait

pretty pictures: in vogue germany june 2011

while the boy is off in the basement discussing things with the electrician, i thought i'd sneak away for a minute to share with you this gorgeous editorial.

i have a true soft spot for photo shoots that expose the "behind the scenes" aspect of a photo shoot.  even though we know that the whole thing is actually perfectly styled, it's still fun to think that we are watching these beautiful models pose and prepare.  it's as if we have found them in an intimate moment, meant to be hidden from the camera but still somehow captured...

{i especially love the shots in black & white!}

wedding wednesday: chic charlotte wedding

the whole design of this wedding - from the dresses to the dance floor - is to die for.  just so, soo chic.  deep gray bridesmaids dresses, black and white and soft pink, bling without being too gaudy... classic & classy yet still modern.  aka, perfection.  hop on over to style me pretty for all the stunning details but here i just want to share some beautiful photographs of the little touches that make a huge event really stand out :

it's all about the details in this wedding!
then again, the bride & groom's happiness in this photo has to be the highlight of it all:

pretty pictures: mia wasikowska in harper's bazaar australia

note: OK before i get to the super pretty pictures, i'd like to sincerely apologize for the weeks of being completely M.I.A. [side note: i was M.I.A.  now i'm doing a post on the beautiful MIA wasikowska.  because not only is she beautiful but also because i am a sucker for a punny pun!]  but back to the missing blogger.  my life has been in a completely state of flux.  and although this is a prime time for documenting pretty things, there has been one major conflict in doing so : i've been sick.  yes, that is my Ã¼ber glamorous excuse.  i have been bed-ridden and without internet for over a week.  before this i was traveling.  so basically, no computer/internet time.  no blogging time.  except i had all the time in the world while stuck in bed - miserable, miserable irony.

but i'm back.... i hope.  i'm posting now because i can and because i am just so apologetic for the absence and just so lonely without the blogosphere [oh dear, did i just admit that?!].  but i can't really commit to being "back" fully.  with all going on, and with this ridonculous health junk, "commitment" is not really a word in my current vocabulary.  but i promise, promise, promise to try my bestest to keep the pretty things coming!  so please keep the sweet comments coming.  i can't stress how much i love them :)

as for the gorgeous photo shoot i can't wait to post...

here is pixie-perfect actress mia wasikowska, photographed by will davidson for this month's harper's bazaar australia.

and one last perfect picture, the lovely mia up close & personal - within minimal makeup no less

i hope to be writing a lot more in the coming days and weeks - most posts on beautiful things in the world, and perhaps a new second blog filled with my eclectic thoughts and musings.  just something to satisfy that need to write and overcome that fear of sharing my writings.  we'll see...

etc: leaving on a jet plane...

...don't know when i'll be back again.

well, that's a lie.  i'll be back on the 15th.  and i'm actually leaving tomorrow, not today, so i don't know if that lyric quite fits.

but anyways.

i'm writing this post because i'm going to be MIA for the next week and a half and i want you all to know that i'm not forgetting about you!  i have really come to love this blog, and to love all you sweet readers and your great comments, and of course - your own great blogs.  so this is my fair warning that it'll be a bit before i'm back.  until then, i've done something i really really don't like to do: schedule posts.  only a few, and only because i'd love to come home to some comments from you all!  typically i don't do this but i'm making an exception for china.  forgive me?  and promise to keep reading?!

that's it for now -- time to do many loads of laundry, some last minute shopping, and then manic packing!  i won't look quite this vintage-lovely and effortlessly chic and put-together when traveling tomorrow, but this fabulous photograph is still worth viewing as some packing inspiration ~

oh yes, maybe one day!

wedding wednesday: balloon engagement

yes, i know that my segment is titled wedding wednesdays, but engagements precede weddings, as do engagement photo shoots, so it's all good.  actually it's all very, very good.  because it's simple and sweet and playful and whimsical and.... and filled with BALLOONS!  and we all know how much i love balloons!  so take a gander and enter the magical world of balloons & the beauty of love ~

and my fave ~

it's very sixteen candles... but with balloons.  so it's even more awesome.

pretty pictures: holiday

it's no big secret that i love audrey hepburn.  i even went through a stage where i watched breakfast at tiffany's multiple times a day, for roughly 2 months.  not just because of audrey but let's face it - she is the one that made holly golightly holly golightly.  i loved her before this time, but after she/holly got me through such a difficult time, i began to adore her on an even deeper level.  maybe that sounds strange or slightly idolatrous but it is what it is - i love audrey hepburn.  i idolize audrey hepburn.  i aspire to be like audrey hepburn.  audrey hepburn is grace, compassion, intelligence, talent, and natural beauty, in the purest form.  someone to look up to, someone to emulate.  oh, audrey, audrey, audrey...

she is an original.  often copied, never reproduced.

so i'm not always the biggest fan of audrey as a halloween costume, audrey look-a-likes, or celebs doing photo shoots trying to replicate traditional "audrey" poses.  [remember emma roberts in glamour?  no offense little emma, but no thank you, i'll stick with the original]  so just imagine my surprise when i saw this editorial, published in tatler magazine, and liked it!

and the craziest part?  the model who i actually think captured audrey's fun and carefree spirit is phil collin's daughter!  crazy unexpected.  and crazy cool.  can't wait to see what she does next!

credit for this beautifully shot editorial go to photographer robert erdmann.

pretty pictures: one fine day

adore this 1960's-esque family themed photoshoot.  not just the styling, not just the background, not just the modeling or fantastic photography... but mostly because i see it & have MAJOR lifestyle envy!  i want to be the subject of the shoot - i want her life!  just take a look ::

fave fabulous photography:  pictures in the field - lovely; the title image by the pond - adore the wind effect
fave modeling:  that great pose against the red car where model eveline is putting on her shoe - great "caught in the act of something completely normal while looking completely glam" shot;
smiling, smiling, smiling!  we all know how i feel about models who are allowed to smile!! {exhibits: A, B, C, D ... wow my collection is growing!  awesome.}
fave fashion: long sleeve lace dress by lisa ho - in second pic (as well as the kissing-in-the-field one); unbelievably gorgeous burberry (obviously!) coat in that last image.
and... major lifestyle crush pics: well other than just saying "all," i suppose i can narrow it down to mostly the last two.  i'd love to be the lovely young model with the sweet husband, lil dog, and completely a-dor-a-ble daughter!

all-in-all -- this photoshoot gets the "kait stamp of approval."  major time.

~ happy model love ~
i've previously expressed my love for happy models {exhibits: A, B, C} and this one definitely ranks way up high.  i mean, a bathing suit model doing something other than pouting or giving some other "sexyface" is a true treasure.  can't say it enough - love this pic!

~ a double decker dress shop ~
woah, woah, woah... i read the story of the bus and now desperately want to find it!  not just to shop what will most likely be one of the cutest collection of dresses ever, but also to meet this erin character, who would most likely be one of the coolest and most inspiring women ever.  see more on happiness is..., where i first read about this bus.

~ paperie: papél new york ~
a little q & a with owner raegan hirvela ::
What is your aesthetic? I always had a vision of the shop aesthetic having a classic concept with a modern edge.   From our store fixtures and window displays to the products we carry, I look for items and ideas that are timeless.
How does your studio style convey your professional aesthetic? Although the music is fun, the cards on the shelves get more than just a giggle, and Francesca my daughter is constant amusement for the customers, but when it comes to collaborating with a client, it’s all business.  We have a dedicated space in the back of the shop where the bride & groom can sit down, relax and flip through our edited selection of wedding vendors.  We created this space so that it was secluded enough for client meetings, while un-obstructing the flow of the store.   It allows first time customers a sneak peak into the customized world of stationery and invitations that we offer.  We achieved this with our room divider made of reclaimed coffee tables that I picked up at thrift shops and the Salvation Army across the city.  It is simply awesome!
