'A Jewel Made in Greece' exhibition

The exhibition “A Jewel Made in Greece” held in February 2014 at Technopolis, brought together for about a week most of the greatest modern Greek jewelry artists. The idea and the implementation belongs to the visual designer Mary Samoli. The exhibition has been curated  by the distinguished art historian Iris Kritikou.

In the industrial cultural venue of Technopolis Gazi in Athens, 26 contemporary jewelers, along with seven Greek museums and six famous goldsmiths who pioneered the export of Greek jewelry worldwide united their powers to showcase today's art jewelry, its roots in Greek culture and promote its image overseas.

The exhibition attracted more than 3000 visitors, who all admired and got inspired by the young and more experienced art jewelers who presented their collections with passion proving that creativity and art cannot be defeated by the economic crisis.

For more info and updates on the work of those contemporary jewelers you can visit 'A Jewel Made in Greece' Facebook page here.

Below you will find photos of the exhibition and my 3 favorites designers (plus their Facebook pages), whose jewels are associated with a story or a person connected to my heart!

A tribute to the most legendary , versatile and timeless piece of an iconic brand with the longest heritage. The Chanel jacket.
CHANEL's photographic exhibition dedicated to Karl Lagerfeld's latest book, 'The Little Black Jacket: CHANEL's classic revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld', is open at the Saatchi Gallery in London since October.

Following on from Tokyo, New York, Taipei and Hong Kong, this special event underlines
the brand's values of creativity, modernity and excellence. The public will discover the versatility and timelessness of the iconic CHANEL jacket through Karl Lagerfeld's 113 photographs, modelled on a range of friends of the House, with each personality adapting the garment to reflect their own inimitable style - worn as a cape on singer Lily Allen, draped around model Stella Tennant, or even transformed into a vest on model Edie Campbell.

Valentino: Master of Couture at Somerset House

A 60-metre catwalk will be installed in Somerset House in London this autumn as part of a retrospective spanning 50 years of the work of the fashion designer Valentino Garavani.

This major new exhibition celebrating the life and work of Valentino will showcase over 130 exquisite haute couture designs worn by icons such as Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Grace Kelly, Sophia Loren and Gwyneth Paltrow in an exciting installation created specially for Somerset House.

Divided into three sections; visitors will start with a private view of Valentino's world through photographs from his personal archive, offering an intimate portrait of the life of the master. The exhibition then unfolds into a couture fashion show where roles are reversed with visitors walking the catwalk to view a staggering one hundred and thirty Valentino haute couture designs. Valentino: The Master of Couture promises to be a journey into the secretive world of Italian couture.

Visiting the exhibition of Maison Martin Margiela 2 years ago, I am sure that Somerset House will stage a spectacular exhibition once again, showcasing Valentino's beautiful designs and craftsmanship! Is there any better excuse for a quick trip to London this Christmas?

For more details you can visit Somerset House's website!

Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations

"The Met's Spring 2012 Costume Institute exhibition, Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, explores the striking affinities between Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada, two Italian designers from different eras. Inspired by Miguel Covarrubias's "Impossible Interviews" for Vanity Fair in the 1930s, the exhibition features orchestrated conversations between these iconic women to suggest new readings of their most innovative work. Iconic ensembles are presented with videos of simulated conversations between Schiaparelli and Prada directed by Baz Luhrmann, focusing on how both womenexplore similar themes in their work through very different approaches."

"When you take off your clothes, your personality also undresses and you become quite a different person — more true to yourself and to your real character, more conscious, sometimes more cruel." Elsa Schiaparelli
