Seattle: Science Center, Boeing, Seahawks, Geocaching

Matt had made arrangements for us to bump our plane tickets back a couple days in order to take advantage of the opportunity to see the Seahawks' last preseason game.  We flew out of Denver and arrived in Seattle for a few days.  We found the train station and made our way to our hotel.

Plane from Denver to Seattle.

State flag, American flag and the Space Needle.

There is a glass art display behind this foliage.  That tall structure is an example.

We spent our first day at the Science Center.

Thanks Muellers for the inspiration.

How do zippers really work?

Tricky Makenna!

She number one

I'm number two.

Isaac figured out the puzzle!

Huge donated wasp nests.

Soon to emerge butterflies

Makenna made a friend.  It stayed with her till we were ready to leave.

It did not want to get off.   If hung out with her until we were ready to leave.

They could have stayed longer if we had food.

The next day, on the bus on our way to the Boeing Aviation Museum.  We enjoyed some classic Seattle weather.

Old Air Force One

This and the next few were taken aboard a former Air Force One.

Now the Concorde.

Learning about Space.

The Boeing Museum was a far bigger hit than any of us anticipated, but we eventually had to leave to get back into town again to eat and go to the big game!  We also wanted to buy a few ponchos, just in case--it had been raining most of the day.  We also needed new shoes (and socks) for Isaac whose hole-y Adibons had let in lots of water.  We solved both and then went to eat at an old favorite at Pike Place Market.

It was still raining.....

We arrive at the stadium!

Just a little excited!

They played the Raiders and won handily.  It was pre-seaon, so the kids didn't quite get the FULL effect of the 12th man, but they loved the whole experience.

It was the last preseason game played against the Raiders.  The Seahawks won by a large margin, the crowd was plenty loud and we even stayed dry!

Our hotel was just down the street from this landmark.

We didn't have to catch the airport shuttle until early afternoon, so we checked out of our rooms and went to try out geocaching in the city--much harder! We found two out of the 4 we tried. Above is one.

The car wash guys had to help us on this one.  We never would have found it.  The clue was "look for something that doesn't belong. Apparently this type of evergreen doesn't have cones.  Groan.

Didn't find this one. But we had fun at the fountain!

Didn't find this one either, but we did find 4 of the "red herrings" and enjoyed the rooftop garden.

Yes, those plants are growing out of the car.

After getting completely frustrated with this spot, we just had to leave in order to get back to the hotel in time to catch our shuttle bus to the airport.

Our last meal in America, for a couple years.  Matt recommended Qdoba in the airport.  It was delicious.

Bizarre! It was a doggy play area and restroom in the airport.

Picking the perfect headband for her 14 hour flight.
