O Come, O Come, Emmanuel

Hammered Dulcimer performance of

Timothy Seaman

with
Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus
~
~*~

Come, thou long expected Jesus,

born to set thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee.
Israel's strength and consolation,
hope of all the earth thou art;
dear desire of every nation,
joy of every longing heart.

--
 Born thy people to deliver,
born a child and yet a King,
born to reign in us forever,
now thy gracious kingdom bring.
By thine own eternal spirit
rule in all our hearts alone;
by thine all sufficient merit,
raise us to thy glorious throne.

~

Words by Charles Wesley
Based on Haggai 2.7
published as a prayer
adapted as a hymn in 1744

~*~

Longing, hope, expectancy and gratitude in our waiting.
May we embrace them as we anticipate Emmanuel's coming
in our lives and in our world.

In The Bleak Midwinter

by English poet Christina Rossetti before 1872,

It was published posthumously in Rossetti's Poetic Works in 1904.
 It became a Christmas carol after appearing in
The English Hymnal in 1906 with a setting by Holst.
