This is very impressive. I have never seen a memorial like this before.
ReplyDeleteI've seen these "ghost bikes" in my own city, other places, and on some blogs. The sentiment is correct and good reminders to both cyclists and motorists yet I feel that they're a little creepy.
ReplyDeleteCreepy... is all in the mind Kate.
DeleteI have never seen this here but I think it is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen a ghost bike but this one makes you stop and think about the little guy who lost his life on this one.
ReplyDeleteI hope these memorials remind cyclists and motorists to be way more careful!
ReplyDeleteThere's one on Sanibel as you cross onto the island. It definitely draws your attention, so, I'm sort of surprised whichever agency oversees the road allows it. Haunting.
ReplyDeleteThat is a really powerful message..so easy to forget how fragile life is
ReplyDeleteAndy, I have never seen one of these, but what a great idea. I often see crosses by the side of the road (or the Interstate highways), but one would assume that they mark a car to car collision. I have lost two friends this way, one five years after the first. It was the widow of the first friend lost... very sad.
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
This is new to me Andy. We see many crosses located on roads, streets, hiways -- but never a bicycle. Very poignant.
ReplyDeleteVisiting from Madge's Weekly Top Shot.
That Ghoast Bicycle does alert one to think about slowing down and being alert - both when driving a car or a bicycle ... We have many bicycles in the traffic here in Copenhagen, and also many accidents with cars - bicycles. I'm sure a Ghost Bike would make a point here?!
ReplyDeleteI've seen crosses as well but never a bike, very interesting.

These are always haunting. I've seen photos of them but not an actual ghost bike. Drivers are too often distracted and bicyclists are vulnerable targets.
ReplyDeleteSad, There is one that I pass most days for a young teacher who was killed just before Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a bicycle like that, and as a cyclist, I think if I saw one it would make me feel a lot of emotions. This is very interesting, and the perspective of your photo captures it well!
ReplyDeleteSad but a beautiful photo ~
ReplyDelete(A Creative Harbor) ^_^
A fitting tribute.
ReplyDeleteThese are particularly poignant reminders of a bicycle death. I have seen several of these white-painted bikes in my area.
ReplyDeleteThat's very sad... I love the perspective you chose... I'm so glad you came by to share on Weekly Top Shot #66!
ReplyDeleteYes, we have one of these on Sanibel Island, FL. The wheels get filled with silk flowers more and more daily.
ReplyDeleteLaurie
I have never seen a bike neither . Flowers and crosses yes but this is a reminder alright. Someones child or adult wont be returning home.
ReplyDeleteI cannot imagine my family member who never came home have this as a reminder to the family.
I have seen these memorials in both Iowa and South Dakota. They are always sad because they remind us of an untimely death of a cyclist. VP has posted ghost bike memorials in Italy as well. Perhaps they will remind motorists to give bike riders enough room on the roads. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteSo sad. Interesting photo. Visiting from Madge's, too. xx
ReplyDeleteOh my...very ghost-like! It is definitely a mind-jolting image.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful to see this frosted bike!
ReplyDeleteWe have them here too Andy. An excellent shot.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this - a poignant sight and I hope these ghost bikes are a good reminder for everyone!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen one on these, I love how you photographed this.
