HandCraftedByKaren is AWESOMEEEEEEE!
1. Who is HandCraftedByKaren?
My name is Karen St. Dennis. I am Married and have 3 kids a dog and a hamster. I live in Upstate NY. (North of Albany). I am 39 and have been crafting for probably about 30 yrs or more. I work during the school year as a cashier in the cafeteria of the Jr/Sr High school (I steal kids lunch money).
2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it?
Mostly I 'loom knit' I have been loom knitting for about a year now. I started this hobby when my friend was doing it and I thought that I could do that too. It gave me something to do when I was waiting for my kids to finish swim lessons. I have also done seed bead jewelry (Native American style barrettes and earrings) as well as a lot of other different kinds of crafting.
3. Where do you pull your inspiration from?
A lot of my inspiration comes from fellow Etsyians. There is so much talent out there and a lot of things I would never have even thought of. Also from the Internet and different craft sites and patterns available.
4. What is your favorite medium?
Different kinds of fun and interesting and colorful yarn.
5. Is Etsy your art your full time job, or just an on the side project?
Etsy started out being a side project, but during the summer I don't get a paycheck from a regular job so it's kind of my 'summer job'
6. How did you find Etsy?
My friend found Etsy in the back of a magazine that her kindergarten son brought home from school. "Parent and Child' she thinks. She thought that maybe we could try it.
7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT?
Before I even listed anything in my "shop" I went into a few chat rooms to 'get the feel of things, ask questions and learn before I got too involved. Some of the Etsyians were very harsh and not wanting to offer any information or help, kept directing me to the forums (didn't know where to even find them)and such. Then I found the 'room' that I normally go in where I found some really friendly and helpful people. Some how I just can't stay away. lol
8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?
Wow, isn't that like asking which child is your favorite? hmmmm My favorite piece I've done is? either the plushies or the Easter eggs. They were pretty fun to make.
9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)?
Talk about a difficult question. There are so many wonderful shops out there. I honestly don't think I can pick a favorite shop, not even a favorite medium? Just way too many talented people out here in Etsyland.
10.Tips for other Artists?
I think the best think I could tell someone is 'make what you love'. If you don't LOVE your craft, pick something else. You want this to be fun less like 'work' and I think if you Love what you do, it will show in your work.
11.Tell me a Secret about yourself.
I'm not Susie Homemaker or Betty Crocker.
12. Any parting words of wisdom
Be yourself. Everyone has their own speed, their own niche, an their own style. Don't be part of the cookie cutter mold.
HandCraftedByKaren is Giving away a 10$ Credit to be used towards any purchase in her shop, to one lucky winner..

An awesome giveaway
C'mon, let's promote one of our team members!

Meet theframedfrog !!
1. Who is The Framed Frog?
Hi, I'm Jeanette. When I taught junior high, my students called me Mrs. "Frogster" because of my obsession with frogs. After having three kids in three years, I switched to staying at home with the tadpoles and eventually started my home art business at the ripe old age of 29ish. Despite my froggilicious name, I have yet to put a froggy item in my shop!
2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it?
I paint mostly, detailing photo frames and doing original canvas designs as well. I pretty much paint anything that is paintable. :) And I guess I've been doing art for a long time but only for the past four months or so as a profitable business.
3. Where do you pull your inspiration from?
I am inspired by the daily antics of my kiddies,my friends, and the intensely gorgeous scenery here in Oregon. I also get inspired by quotes and blogs and even TV shows sometimes. My nerdy hubby was the one that inspired the Guitar Hero and Ninja frames, of course. Awesome color combinations can really help me create sometimes too.
4. What is your favorite medium?
I would have to say currently, it's my acrylic paints. Lots and lots of color and texture! And I've been teaching my toddlers to use paints also. The 2-year-old is fantastic at painting couches, tables, and everything else he is not supposed to1 (Including a finished painting for a customer that I ended up having to redo!)
5. Is Etsy your art your full time job, or just an on the side project?
Right now, it's a part-time job, since a 3-year-old, 2-year-old, and a 10-month-old take up a LOT of my time! I am hoping to continue to grow my business so that when the little angels are in school, I will be able to make it my full-time occupation.
6. How did you find Etsy?
Through the blogosphere. I saw the Etsy buttons on several of the blogs I follow and so I decided it would be the best way to test how my art would do selling on the internet.
7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT?
Am I addicted? Okay, yep, I probably am. Once I discovered the chat features on the Etsy site, I quickly realized that this was a way for me to have adult conversation during the day. Instead of bottling it all up and unleashing it on poor hubby at the end of the day, I could get my release in chat and be a somewhat normal and sane person when he got home. Believe me, he's a thankful man! :) I also loved the bond that can be forged with other creative people. I am pretty loyal to my fellow chatters - always looking for the treasuries that they have created and choosing their shops for my purchases.
8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?
Every time I finish a piece, I think that it is my new favorite! :) Right now, it would probably be my Horatio painting. He's just adorable and was a lot of fun to create.
9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)?
I went to my favorite shop list and like many of you, it is a mile long! It depends on the item for sure. For jewelry, lately I am particularly fond of Sea Unicorn's shop. White Hope Designs has the most adorable handbags, and I am hoping to spend some money on the kiddies at Oh Bananas and Ummashin's shop. And then there are so many talented artists on Etsy - once I start bringing in more money, I am hoping to have an "Etsy Art Wall" in my home to feature all of my talented friends!
10.Tips for other Artists?
I think the best thing is not to create because you think it will sell. Create because it is something you love and want to make. Also, keep your style distinctive. I love when I see an art piece and know immediately that it is zeropumpkin's because of its quirky and slightly dark style. :)
11.Tell me a Secret about yourself.
I do my best work while watching TV reality shows. Seriously. Many paintings and cute frames were created during America's Next Top Model and The Bachelor. That's how fried my brain cells are, folks!
12. Any parting words of wisdom
Not really. I have a hard time even calling myself an artist, so it feels strange to be giving advice or wisdom to others. It is my relationship with Christ that helps me to be a better wife, mom, and artist. I write about it often at my blog entitled Temporary Insanity (http://jfrogster.blogspot.com)
Theframedfrog is offering one lucky winner a $25.00 credit to her store. They can use it to buy whatever they like (up to $25 including shipping, or use it towards a larger purchase!!)

Meet cuddlycuties!!!
Cuddlycuties is the product of two friends who love to sew and together got drawn in by the wonderful world of machine embroidery. The things you see in Cuddlycuties' shop today are made by Dawn. Shannon is the second member of Cuddlycuties, and she contributes more to the shop in the way of fulfilling custom requests.
2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it?
I have been sewing for more years than I care to count, definitely more than 25. Machine embroidery came into my life just over a year ago. I also do knitting, and many other crafts. My grandmother taught me to knit when I was about 5 years old, so I've been knitting for around 30 years now.
3. Where do you pull your inspiration from?
I get most of my inspiration from my son. I start with things I loved to have when he was a baby, and add in things I wish I had then. Other inspiration just comes from life. I will get an idea of something that would make my life easier, and usually end up thinking "I could make that!"
4. What is your favorite medium?
I love natural fabrics for sewing and knitting. I am currently in love with embroidery though, so I have expanded my horizons to include it in my favorites.
5. Is Etsy your art your full time job, or just an on the side project?
My time with my son is my full time job, but I would like to make Etsy into a full time venture as well.
6. How did you find Etsy?
My aunt called me one day and told me about this website she had read about in a magazine, and I checked it out that same day. Signed up that day, and then started formulating a plan to make a go of it.
7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT?
I decided one day to see what Etsy chat was all about, and I've been hooked ever since.
8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?
I have a hard time picking a favorite piece. They all have different things I love about them.
9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)?
For someone who hates picking favorites of anything (I still don't have a favorite color!), this is a difficult question. Today my favorite shop is Heathens Hearth. I absolutely adore their soap.
10.Tips for other Artists?
Do the art you love the most. In the end, whether you make a profit or not is not important. It's if you enjoyed the labor that went into the pieces you made.
11.Tell me a Secret about yourself.
I'm terrible at keeping secrets, so I don't think there are any left!
12. Any parting words of wisdom?
Don't give up! The more difficult the road to success, the more rewarding in the end.
and now..
Cuddlycuties will be giving away a market tote embroidered with the winning shop's information.! How fun would that be to have?!! You can have something functional, eco friendly and ADVERTISE your shop! awesome.
All you have to do is go to: CUDDLYCUTIES etsy shop then....
1. pick your favorite item. Come back here and leave a comment on what your fav item is. (for 1 entry)
2. FOLLOW the chatters team blog and comment here (for 1 entry)
3. Purchase something from Cuddlycuties, come back here and comment TWICE leaving the link to your transaction page here. (for 2 entries)
Winner will be chosen by random number generator in one week (Friday June 12).

Let's meet DingsInsainity
Dingsinsainity is the brain child of a one man band named Emma who is a messy painter, eccentric drawer and somewhat insane cat lover.
2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it?
I mainly focus on drawing and painter which I have done since a very young child (mainly on the walls back then) but I also love to knit and sew and am always finding great fun in trying new things (the messier the better).
3. Where do you pull your inspiration from?
Other people are my main inspiration but things I see walking around and music are also a huge stimulus for me.
4. What is your favorite medium?
Oh that is a difficult one, I absolutely love finding new mediums, weird and wonderful ones produce some of the most fantastic work. For example of couple of years ago I made a corset entirely from sweet wrappers. I do find pencil and paper to be a trusty old friend now though that feels like second nature.
5. Is Etsy your art your full time job, or just an on the side project?
At the moment it has to share my time with my day job but I live in hope that one day I can proudly say my art is my full time job
6. How did you find Etsy?
My Mum was already a seller for a while on here before I joined and she had recommended it and one day I took the plunge and I’ve been addicted ever since.
7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT?
I stubbled into the chat room the day I joined Etsy, at the time I had just finished college and was also (sadly) unemployed so had plenty of time on my hands and I was hooked within 5 minuets.
8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?
I’m not sure I could pick, the time and sometimes agony that goes into getting the piece how I like it is so different with each one and no piece is ever the same and I have never to this day hated doing any of the pieces I have but I think I would have to say custom pieces I do are my favourite as they are something somebody else has challenged me to do.
9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)?
Oh there are so many great ones but I think I would have to go with AshleyG!
10.Tips for other Artists?
Never ever loose your enthusiasm, even if there are no sales, no new readers on blogs, don’t loose your enthusiasm because then you need to ask yourself if you’ve lost the essence of why you love creating what your creating?
11.Tell me a Secret about yourself.
I ate ice cream for breakfast this morning hehe
12. Any parting words of wisdom?
Nothing big happens overnight!
and now the giveaway!!
Winner will choose a print of their choice from DingsInsainity!!

Miasophia Rocks.. Come and meet her and a giveaway too!
One of our chatters with some amazing jewelry. Here is a bit about her:
1. Who is miasophia? I am a suburban stay at home mom who dreams of fancier things. I adore where I am in my life, but I love Italian art and French design. Vintage European design captures me the most. I love how feminine it all is.
2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it?
I am a jewelry designer and have been designing for a little over two years. But only began selling it on etsy a little over a year ago.
3. Where do you pull your inspiration from?
Books mostly. Since my beautiful daughters keep me occupied here I study books.
4. What is your favorite medium? While I am currently trying to focus on silversmithing I can’t seem to keep away from vintage things. I seem to find vintage beads wherever I go. I buy the old jewelry, take it apart and viola! New fun things to create!
5. Is Etsy your art your full time job, or just an on the side project?
My full time job is my daughters, so I would say my Etsy shop is my Art.
6. How did you find Etsy?
Watching Martha Stewart, the BlackApple was making one of her dolls. I went to investigate and was hooked that day!
7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT?
How does anyone explain an addiction? You find your self in a situation where you feel the need and drawn into whatever feeds that need! Ha ha. I love the friendships, fun, interesting people and amazing artists you find in there. Even the occasional drama is fun. Everything is better with a little spice.
8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?
Wow, every week it changes, depending on what I create. Right now I’m working on a very long necklace made from vintage rosary chain, so right now, that is my favorite of what I'm making. However, I wear simpler things. I have made and then kept and constantly wear a simple purple bead on a chain. It is really fun. I sit and spin it on it's wire while I think. It seems to suit me.
9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)?
Unfortunately, I can’t pick one. I love the other jewelry artists who create, I love the newbies just finding their way, I love to see the pottery (amazing stuff there!) and the photographers and painters. I can’t say I have just one favorite.
10.Tips for other Artists? Stay true to yourself and your vision. Surround yourself with people and things that feed your soul.
11.Tell me a Secret about yourself.
I don’t wear much jewelry at all! Earrings (just studs), an simple necklace (one of my favs is a purple solitary bead I created for my shop but kept for myself) and a ring my daughter got me in Greece, which I only wear when I go out.
12. Any parting words of wisdom?
The thing I struggle with the most is not getting caught up in the commercial side of Etsy. Also there is a huge “I can make that” draw. I try not to look too often at many jewelry artists who are similar in style to me because I find myself thinking in their designs. I have to go back to my books and clear my head to re-focus on what it is I want to create. So, I would say for other artists to know yourself and what you want, stay focused on your true desires and abilities and, no matter what the sales numbers say, you will love what you are doing. That is how I stay an artist and not get caught up in the commercial side.
Want a chance to WIN one of Miasophias Pieces? Well, you are in luck!! miasophia Is giving away this lovely necklace.
For your chance to win:
1. Leave a comment about your fav item in miasophia Etsy Shop.
2. BLOG about miasophia and link us to the post!!

So THREE chances to WIN!! How fun and wasy is that?? hmmmm..

Let's meet NemesisProductions
Keep reading and be sure to enter the giveaway
!
Here is her QnA:
1. Who is NemesisProductions?
I love all things spooky, enjoy goth and industrial music, wear black as much as possible, adore black cats and bats, and like sci-fi and fantasy. I have even done my fair share of dice rolling while playing an elf.
2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it?
I'm a life-long bath and body junkie. I make all of my product myself, as well as take all the product photos, handle all the packaging and shipping as well as customer service. I have always loved photography as well as bath and body items, so it brings me a great deal of satisfaction making things for others that I would want to buy myself. In fact, I use the stuff I make all the time, and I also continue to buy soap from other artisans. Everyone has their own style, and I love to try out things that I can't do or are different from my creations as much as I can. I also really enjoy having more control over what I put on my body, and knowing the ingredients.
A print from nemesisproductions.
I've been taking photos for years, since I was going to clubs and seeing bands play live, which is where I first became a shutterbug. A few years ago a friend bought me a digital camera as a gift, and the rest, as they say is history. I ended up going on a last-minute urban exploration trip and was amazed with the images I managed to capture. I've been serious about photography every since.
3. Where do you pull your inspiration from?
I pull inspiration from all over. I now find myself looking at objects, cake and cookie molds, and flowers wondering how I might use them to create soap or how they would look embedded in a bar. I really enjoy doing custom orders...I like the inspiration customers provide, and some of the things people have requested have become staples in my shop.
4. What is your favorite medium?
I guess my favorite medium would be my soap bases. They are the start of any soap project. My essential oils and fragrance oils are a very close second.
5. Is Etsy your art your full time job, or just an on the side project?
Etsy is my full-time job. No doubt about it.
Jewelry!!!
6. How did you find Etsy?
I actually found out about it on the abandoned places community on livejournal. I had asked where some of the photographers there sold their work, and someone recommended Etsy. I decided to check it out, and here I am.
7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT?
I became addicted the minute I found it! I was very fortunate to meet some lovely people right away, and it took a long time for me to have a negative experience in a chat room. My regular chat crew is funny, talented, and a great stress reliever. I laugh a great deal more, and I think that I would be very lonely indeed if I wasn't in chat. I've always liked being active on the internet, especially with chat rooms and instant messengers, so being in the chat on Etsy is just natural for me.
8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?
Wow. It's so hard to pick just one. I think my current favorite is my I Heart soaps. They're fun.
9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)? Again, another incredibly hard question! There are so many amazing shops. I do have a serious soft spot for mooshoopork's shop though. Her little people are just too adorable.
This Skull in heart soap is soooo cute!
10.Tips for other Artists?
I think my biggest tip is to continue to give yourself credit. Sometimes being an artist/artisan can feel like it's a never-ending struggle or that you really aren't getting anywhere, but if you truly love what you create, always be sure to cheer yourself on even if others don't support you and your decisions. NEVER let someone tell you that your creations are worthless or a waste of time.
11.Tell me a Secret about yourself.
I'm actually a ninja.
12. Any parting words of wisdom? Questions? Comments
Just love yourself, and remember that you are a person who deserves respect and courtesy. Always be sure to give it in return. Don't look to others for the source of your self-esteem...it has to come from within. In the end, it doesn't matter what others think. If you can look at yourself in the mirror and be happy with who is staring back at you, then you're on the right path.
And remember, be excellent to each other!

Getting Chatty with vantiani
I was going to change the layout of Vantiani's QnA to be more interview style.. But, I thought the way she usd third person, was sooo cute. Vantiani is a clever gal and I hope you all enjoy getting to know a bit more about her - like I did!!
~~~ VANTIANI~~~
Vantiani is a red gemini living in old dusty house full of zines, books, records,
films and ideas with her tall punk lover. She works as copywriter by day and
everything else in between it. She used to run a craft shop and a creative space with her two gilfriends, but now she is focusing more in building her own crafty coccoon.
Vantiani starts making collage only last year but has been addicted ever since and
after her first collage exhibition last August, she decides to open her first etsy
shop.
Vantiani mostly inspired by her local crafty comrades, blogsphere, magazines, films
and of course her creatively chaotic house.
Vantiani's favorite medium is always paper and fabric.
Vantiani wishes one day her etsy will be her full time job.
Vantiani finds the almighty etsy during one of her blogwalking journey when she bumps into those inspiring etsians and crafters blogs.
Vantiani actually always been a chat addict since years ago, but how she amazed with
etsy chat with its endless surprises from the first time she find out about it. She
finds lots of wonderful new friends, really really awesome swaps and also a lovely
community that she never thought she will experience from a chatting community before.
Vantiani put her favorite piece as her avatar and another one is on the attachment.
Vantiani has way too many favorite etsy shops but those that really inspires her are
magicjelly, suspectshoppe and marmeecraft.
Vantiani always believes that everyone is an artist, therefore find your art and
explore them.Having fun with them and if you want them to be able to feed you too,
nurture them profesionally as early as possible.
Vantiani used to sell pirated porn films for a couple of years among her office mates. (sorry had to BOLD this one, it made me giggle.
Vantiani feels that to surround herself with amazingly talented and creative people
is a really good idea. Because they will not only make her feel small and
meaningless, but also make her always have enough confidence and strength to try
harder and better in lots of things that she does.
Okay.. Now, Go to www.vantiani.etsy.com .. Browse around, see what you like. Come back here and comment. Tell me what you think is awesome, link it. People wanna see what Vantiani has to offer!!
Featured Chatter Shop of the Week: Bibs4Drips
Let's get to know her a bit more!!!
1. Who is bibs4drips?
Bibs4drips is my 3rd baby. I do treat it differently and it doesn’t get as many hugs and kisses as my two other children. But I think that’s ok and so far, it did very well. I want to see it grow up more and get stronger and bigger.
2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it?
I do crafting since I am a teenager. I started sewing with 16 when I got my first sewing machine. My grandma was a seamstress, I have grown up with it. I am also taking lots of photos and do my own cards (http://fragmentsbyedith.etsy.com and http://fragmentsbyedith.blogspot.com). My friends call me Martha Stewart because I do lots of things by hand as gifts.
3. Where do you pull your inspiration from?
Necessity. And love for beautiful things. Photos. Fabrics. Colorful ribbons. My children. Thinking about something and then make it.
4. What is your favorite medium?
Fabric, the cutter the better. Photographs, paper and glue.
5. Is Etsy your art, your full time job, or just an on the side project?
Since I am a stay at home mom, I consider bibs4drips my part time job next to taking care of the kids and husband. I also love to take pictures and work on cards and name tags so I consider myself an artist in that regard.
6. How did you find Etsy?
I started with bibs4drips in the summer 2008 and was ready to give an update to all family and friends in the fall of that year. Shortly after I sent out my look-at-my-new-business email, my sister in law forwarded me an email from her friend who said I should check out Etsy and post my stuff there. I researched it for few days and signed up shortly after. Love it since!
7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT?
That wasn’t hard at all. I meet all these great people who are funny, talented, and willing to share their life with me. Most of them are supportive, helpful and enthusiastic. And this is what we need to be successful. Thank you all you Etsy addicts.
8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?
I think my bibs4drips are just sensational. They are small and handy and useful.
9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)?
Oh, this is a hard one. Really, I couldn’t list all the shops that I have looked at and loved. And booked marked. And looked at again.
10. Tips for other Artists?
Be yourself, believe in yourself and your product, provide a good made product and people will come.
11. Tell me a Secret about yourself.
I have moved to the US with 2 suitcases and $4000. That was 8 years ago. Now I have a handsome and smart husband, 2 beautiful kids and a life that I love.
12. Any parting words of wisdom? Questions? Comments?
Keep doing what you are doing. If you enjoy it, others will too.
And now.. a Giveaway!!! Edith (bibs4drips) will be giving away a one of her Lovies (like the cute yellow with bee one pictured here!!) Just go to her shop, and come back here commenting about what you love most in her shop!! NExt Friday, she will randomly select a winner and post that here!!
Balanced Interview and Giveaway!
My name is Rachel. I'm originally from Northern California, but currently living in Dublin, Ireland with my wonderful Irish husband and our baby Ginger, the cat.
2. What kind of crafting/art do you do? How long have you been doing it?
Oh goodness. I've been making things all my life. But, regarding my Etsy shop, I've been making jewelry for about 10 years. I do papercrafts as well, my sold section shows a set of cards I did. I paint also and sell prints an another venue you can find on my blog, http://balancedcrafts.com.
3. Where do you pull your inspiration from?
Everywhere really. Nature, art, fashion. I browse a lot of magazines and read a lot of blogs. I'm inspired everyday.
4. What is your favorite medium?
I haven't met a medium I didn't like yet and I'm always looking for new ones. Right now I'm trying out encaustic painting, but the old stand buys like oil, acrylic, pencils, chalk, etc. are always near. I do a lot of digital painting these days as well. And with jewelry, I would say beadweaving as opposed to bead stringing, though I love that too.
5. Is Etsy/your art your full time job, or just an on the side project?
I suppose it is. I'm always working on it in one way or another and I have no other job, so, yeah. :P
6. How did you find Etsy?
Magic.
7. How did you become ADDICTED to Etsy CHAT?
I think it was all the awesome people I met.
8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?
Wow, I am no good at these 'favorite' questions. I love and am proud of every single thing I make to sell, or I wouldn't put it out into the world. I'm very sensitive, haha. I do, however, have a special fondness for the beadwoven pieces as there is more time put into them.
9. What is your favorite Etsy shop (other than yours)?
My head is spinning trying to think of favorites, honestly. There are just so many!
10.Tips for other Artists?
Yes, though it's not originally mine.“Be aware of wonder. Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some" by Robert Fulghum.
11. Tell me a secret about yourself!
I know where you live. (If you've ordered from me that is.:P)
12. Any parting words of wisdom? Questions? Comments?
Just a sincere thank you. I'm so glad to be a part of this team and to have met the wonderful people in it. It's a lovely thing.
Balanced is offering this beautiful Pearly Squares Bracelet in our giveaway! To enter, all you have to do is go to her Etsy Shop and come back here and leave a comment telling us which of her items is your favorite! Be sure you leave your email address so we can contact you if you are the winner!
This giveaway is open internationally and will run until Sunday, March 8th at midnight EST.
