Ahhh, goals...
If I gave myself a C- for 2012, then I have to give myself an 'F' for 2013. Seriously. But that's the great thing about the clock turning over from 2359 to 0000. It's a new year and a new start which is why I love this time of year so much.
I don't know if I love making resolutions and goals as much as I like having something to check off as 'done.' In fact, I love lists. Like, love them. My favorite apps revolve around lists. A coworker mentioned that she heard you get some sense of adrenaline rush when you check something off a list. I totally buy it. Now I just need to remember to check in with this list!
(1) Linda's Photos When my aunt passed away early last year she left boxes and boxes of photos, old and new. The day we divided her belongings, there was just too much going on to sit down and really go through them all so I volunteered to sort, scan and distribute the pictures to each of my siblings. I would love to complete this project this year. It's quite the undertaking but what an honor to be able to do it. I am HALFWAY THERE! It took me almost all year to get to this point, but I definitely consider this a 'pass' because I have actively been working on it.
(2) Cook a Pot Roast Dinner Martha Stewart Would Be Proud Of In case you missed my post last Sunday. I'm talking meat, potatoes, pearl onions, the works. Mmmm... (By the way this is a lofty goal for me because I have never, ever attempted any such meal in my life. My mom and grandma are/were professionals and it's always seemed, well, intimidating!) I made Pot Roast this last fall and it was delicious. I may have cheated because I just used my slow-cooker, but either way I say 'Goal Accomplished.'
(3) Attend the temple at least once every other month. This is way better than what I have been doing. Hopefully work up to once a month from there. If you follow my blog then you know I made it the first time in December, but at least I made it.
(4) Run outside at least 1x a week. Since the racing goal didn't really work out too well for me last year, I thought maybe I would stick with something a little more attainable and consider any races I make it into 'icing on the cake.' Plus, I really miss the feeling of my feet pounding the pavement. I'm not one of those crazy people who run in subzero weather so this might have to begin in the Spring! Fail. Time, sick, kids, excuses excuses...I can't say S didn't offer to watch the kids so I could.
(5) Date nights with the kiddos I want to take Bean to at least 2 movies, just me and her. I've been waiting for her to be old enough to sit through a movie-theater movie. She's probably been old enough for awhile, but we still haven't taken her. Now's the time. Boy isn't old enough for movies so my goal for him is to take him somewhere he can run around and play, just me and him. I took Bean on a couple of shopping dates. They were fun. I couldn't do my one-on-one with Boy like I wanted because Bean ended up getting PM kindergarten. So this year. :)
(6) Date night with my hubby. I can't really mention it here because he reads my blog, but I have some fun ideas involving one date per month. I will post more once he knows :) I feel like we did really well until summer time. Then we were gone so much that we just lost track of the time. We still went on some fun dates though!
(7) Make one craft for each holiday. My pinterest boards are bursting at the seams. I have to do something about it. Again I did pretty well until summer hit.
(8) Read 30 books. I'm not a slow reader, but the problem is I am a distracted reader. Books on CD work really well for me, but I need to carve out a little more time each day to read real books. And it can't be just as I'm going to bed because reading is the surefire way to get me to fall asleep (consequently I sleep really well at night so I guess reading at bedtime isn't all bad.) PASS and beyond! Thanks largely to my decision to reread the entire Boxcar Children series. I could read each book in a sitting if I had the time, but I still count each and every single one of them towards my goal.
There you have it. I'm excited! I've mentioned it before, but I do better at goals when I am being held accountable so if you see me, by all means ASK HOW I'M DOING!!
