Mr. Smartypants, Glowworms, and Books on CD

I got home from work late last night and S had a sample of a new IV catheter system that is being introduced in hospitals. It was very technical and I very much didn't understand a lot of it. It's been both fun and inspiring to see him learn so much and to watch him start applying it as he is going through his clinicals. I've been able to meet up with him for dinner while he has been on his rotations here where I work. Have I mentioned how much I love that our jobs overlap?

We found out the hard way how much Bean loves Mr. Glowworm (I call him Mister even though he is, in fact, pink.) The batteries started to die so that Twinkle Twinkle Little Star now sounded much like an old record player about to bite the dust. When he finally did go we realized that Bean was now fully dependant on Mr. Glowworm's capabilities to soothe her to sleep. I am sure there must be a section in What to Expect the First Year on letting your child soothe herself to sleep, but I must of failed to read it. We scrambled to find batteries in remote controllers (ironically most of them are AAA, not AA) and eventually settled on some half-charged batteries from my camera. Problem solved. Sort of. It actually appears that Bean has entered that stage of her life where she is afraid of the dark and wakes up in the middle of the night crying. I learned two things from this. (1) Don't reintroduce the 2 a.m. feeding. Bad idea. And (2) I wish that I had bought a nightlight for her nursery. So we've just been letting her cry it out (for what turns out to be a whopping 2 minutes) and she's fine. And in the meantime we have restocked our Duracells and Mr. Glowworm is safe and sound in the corner of her crib. (He can't be that bad for her!)

I made a goal at the beginning of the year to read a book a week. Though highly unrealistic, I felt it would at least motivate me to read more. Between working full time and also having a paid-job, I've found the perfect solution: Books on CD! I have about an hour commute total each day and I've always heard people say how great they are. It's, like, my "aha" moment of the year.

We had Bean's 6 (more like 8) month pictures taken in April. They turned out so well.

She really is this adorable in real life.
