Newmarket Library

Public library in Newmarket, Ontario

The library in Newmarket has an artsy lacy tower made even more interesting when reflected in the library's glass.

Merry Christmas

 Christmas baubles in shop window

The ornaments are reflecting colours off the street and in the background the yellow stuccoed building is reflected from the across the street. (You can see the reflected building better in the fourth photo.)

December Sun

A sunny December day

It doesn't look like early December in Ontario, does it?

Sun and Fog

Lake Scugog

The sun was just breaking trough the fog so it was still a bit hazy.

Flashback to October

Silvery

A Bright sunny day at Parry Sound Harbour

These reflections danced on the water. I hope I have captured that quality in these still photos.

Private Pond in Autumn

Reflection in private Uxbridge pond

This pond is fun to watch and photograph throughout the four seasons.  Sadly there are signs warning people to not trespass...so I take photos from the road.

Orangeville Opera House

Reflected in window across the main street in Orangeville. Ontario

Built in 1876, this building was once the Orangeville Town Hall but since 1994 - after extensive restoration and renovation - is now a theatre.

More reflections in windows across the main street

It's great way to repurpose a building protected under the Ontario Heritage Act for historical and architectural reasons.

Great Lakes Work Boat

Reflection of work boat in the harbour at Parry Sound

Exactly what a work boat does I am not sure. What it does NOT do is carry cargo, apparently.  This boat is owned by Trimac, a shipping company that operates on the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway.

The light and wind were perfect for capturing colourful, wonky reflections.

Cranberries

 Harvested cranberries and tree reflections

Ten days ago my husband and I visited a Muskoka cranberry marsh. The weather and foliage were beautiful and bonus - the cranberries were being harvested.  In the photo above you can see cranberries ready to be cleaned, dried and sorted.

Sightseeing "train" and reflection

Busloads of tourists visit this marsh every October and part of the package includes a ride on this "train" to see the bogs up close and hear about the growing and processing of cranberries.

FYI: My husband and I are cheap frugal. We drove ourselves to the marsh, walked around the bogs and asked questions of the enthusiastic and knowledgeable workers in the marsh's store and various food kiosks.

Muskoka

Reflections in shallow pools of water

One of my most favourite places to visit this time of year is the area around Lake Muskoka.  a little less than two hours north of where I live. It's so different from where I live as it is on the Precambrian Shield with very old granite outcroppings. Plus in October the light is beautiful and the colours scrumptious!

Jackson's Point

 Jackson's Point on Lake Simcoe

The water was moving just enough to make the squiggly reflections that I so enjoy photographing.

Peterborough Storefront

On George Street

I have no idea why "sandwich" and "nougat" are on the window of a clothing store. At the time I was more interested in capturing the reflections of the buildings across the north-south street and as well as the east-west street.  (Yes, the building is on a corner.)

Rosedale - Lock #35

 Easterly end of Rosedale Lock

Saturday of the labour Day weekend was a warm summer day, a lovely one for photographing reflections. This is Rosedale lock on the Trent-Severn Waterway between Lake Ontario and Georgian Bay (Lake Huron).  This lock, said to be the second busiest on the entire system, connects Cameron Lake on the east to Balsam Lake on the west.

 Closing the easterly gate

First boat in the lock, tied up while water fills the lock

This family has been waiting for a few minutes, passing the time talking to the owners of other boats, mostly about their boats and whether you can sleep on them or not.

 Different water levels

Here you can see that the water on the westerly side is higher than the water on the east side. The reflections are so like liquid gold.

 Opening the westerly gates

Open!

Boats on the westerly side will soon be cleared to enter the lock and this time the water level will be lowered.
