Orland is a much smaller town than Chico, so their sports teams shouldn't be as good, right? Less athletes to choose from? But, that theory doesn't always work, Orland is pretty good in football and soccer. But Andrew's jr high team easily beat Orland's jr high team, so that also gave us reason to think that this was going to be an easy game and the "subs" were all going to get a lot of playing time. There was a blow out by the end of the first half, but we rarely saw any "subs", the "favorites" got all the playing time. It is no fun to watch the same 5 or 6 kids play all the minutes. There are now 13 kids on the team (2 quit)....all 13 should get to play if they've come to practice and tried hard to learn and improve. Some of the favorites even missed Friday's practice and still played most of the game. It has been an interesting season for sure. But Chico freshmen DID win tonight, so I should be happy. I am, but I just wish Andrew and the others got to play more!

Chico vs. Shasta
| This picture is kinda funny, but sad. Andrew and his teammates dont want to be on the bench, they want to be in the game. Can you tell??? |
The game against Shasta was one we've been looking forward to because they are the team we played in the Finals of the PV tournament.
But Shasta beat Chico this time. We get to play them one more time later in the season, so that game is one to look forward to and hopefully play better.
| Andrew's seminary teacher and her husband (who helps in the classroom each day, so co-teacher) came to his game. They are really good people! |

anotherrrrrrrrrrr loss
Enterprise has a really nice NBA quality score board. On it you can see just about every piece of information you need.
When Melanee played, Enterprise girls soccer was a total joke, they were SO bad. I was surprised they had some league championship titles listed on their banner...haha....but Enterprise is the oldest Redding High school, so these titles could have been won in like 1950??? But compare the girls soccer banner to all the rest and they havent done very well---
I really liked Enterprise's gym. But they played horrible music all throughout warm ups and halftime. Also, we got that Redding ref with one eye!!! He missed a lot of calls!

Primary cuties
Here's this week's class. Love them! But they really cared more about loose teeth and apples than our lesson topic!

Scout Merit Badge Pow Wow
Sent Andrew with a camera today because he was working on a photography merit badge, this is the photo Scott took with it at 6 am, he probably should have used the flash, haha!
Andrew's boy scout troop went to Redding today for an all day merit badge workshop. They started 4 merit badges and will go back next month to finish them.
They left Chico at 6 am and didn't return until 6:30 pm. The older scouts then had a church activity, so Andrew really didn't get home till after 8:30. Very long day.
Andrew has always been one of those people who enjoy couch sitting time more than anything. But with football, then basketball, church activities, scouts, and things like the work Scott sets up for him, Andrew definitely does not get enough couch time. He was mad this morning that he had to go ALL DAY. He also likes to complain, even when he has fun, so even though he came home and SAID that it was an awful day, I don't really believe him!
The classed Andrew worked on were photography, cooking, crime prevention, and sustainability.

losing to PV
It's not fun to lose and losing to PV at PV is just the worst, but, Andrew played and played well, so we went home happy!

the Esplanade
The Esplanade is the main street through Chico. It is beautiful. It is lined with trees. In the fall, the trees leaves are all different fall colors and driving down the street is thrilling. Today, it was foggy and the trees were bare. This picture doenst show the fog very well, but the Esplanade was so different and dreary, but kinda cool.
my Primary kids
yes, my kids are CrAzYYYY, but they are also very fun to teach. I have had the same age group kids the past 3 years, but this year there weren't enough 6 year olds, so my class is the 5 and 6 year olds, but there is only one 6 year old, so basically I have the 5 year olds, and there is a huge difference between a 5 and a 6 year old. If I remember, I'm going to try to take a photo each week, I'm SURE they are going to get bigger and change over the year!
This next picture has a story...it goes like this. For music time, the music leader has been having the kids wear these hats, that supposidly go with the song they are learning. But I cringe every time a kid exchanges the hats because I know lice is going around (I read the medical papers I prep each day and there is LOTS of lice going around), plus I know there are people in the ward who have recently just had lice, so the hat sharing worried me. So, I finally, voiced my concern during the week to the music leader. She has young kids, maybe she doesn't know about lice and how they can be spread by hat sharing. She said she wasnt offended and that she would come up with a different idea for the song game. I wasn't there for most of singing time on Sunday, but when I came into the primary chapel, one of my sweet girls was wearing THIS---Very sanitary!!! haha!!!

primary
I'm still teaching the 6 year olds this year, but last week there was a huge storm and most of the people who lived out on the farm were flooded in their homes (roads were flooded and they couldnt leave), so I taught the 4 and 5 year olds, so so so cute! Except there was a big difference in what the kids can do/understand. For example, we were playing a cherades game and I told them to act out something that would make Jesus and Heavenly Father happy or bring them closer to them and I wanted them to act out things like- saying a prayer, reading their scriptures, being reverent....but they had their own ideas. The first kid was a lion. The second kid acted out floating on her back in a pool. They all did obscure things that no one could guess and that had nothing to do with the lesson. I'm pretty sure the 6 year olds would have stuck to the script, haha!
Basketball vs. Red Bluff
Andrew's team played Red Bluff for the second time this year and lost for the second time. Andrew's team is pretty good....so, it makes no sense that they are so bad....just way too many turnovers and missed shots. Those two things will make a team lose every time.
This game was also kinda odd in that we arrived there with only one missing player and began the game with 4 missing players. One player was sick and didnt even come to the game. Another ate something he was allergic to on the way to the game and had to use his epi pen. A third one sat in the locker room with the epi pen kid until he was feeling better (about the second half). And another kid QUIT. He just quit. Andrew said I cant write anything about it because he hasn't done it yet, but he left yesterday's game and was no where to be found.
And even with 4 missing players, the coach didn't divvy up the playing time enough still! Andrew did get to play, but one kid just did the last minute of the game and a few others played very little.

eating pizza
Andrew has been eating soft foods ever since he got his braces put on. For some reason, I think his braces are different than Bradleys. It took a lot longer to put Andrew's braces on and he has had a much more difficult time with them than Bradley did. Bradley didn't have rubber bands and their teeth corrections were very different, so that might be why. Either that or Andrew is much whimpier!
Anyway, Andrew tried two things today that he hasn't eaten in a week....first, tacos....and tonight pizza. The funny thing about the pizza was that he ate it with a fork and knife, something I'm sure he has never done in his entire life! So I just HAD to take a photo and document it. Small bites, small bites!

Sick Kid!!!!
Went to Immediate Care for the second time in a week. Not a fun place. And not an inexpensive place. Stay healthy, dont get sick, that's my advice!!!
Bradley has a sore throat. When we went in on Thurs they did a strep test, which came back negative. The dr put him on antibiotics anyway. She said if they dont immediately start working and if he gets worse, come back in a few days. This morning at about 5 am he woke us up and said that he couldnt swallow. His throat was so swollen that he couldnt even swallow the saliva in his mouth. When he tried to take a sip of water, it came out his nose. We are not people who ever go to doctors, only when its something like completely deadly....this seemed pretty serious. So first we did all the Internet searches for his symptoms. Never do that, you will just find that everything is horrible and worst case scenarios are all they give you!
We ruled out needing the emergency room, so we waited until Immediate Care opened and were the first ones at the door at 7. They still took until 7:20 to see us???!!!!
The doctor did a Mono test and a throat culture. We wont know the results of the culture for a few days and the mono test was negative. (Kinda figured that because he played basketball and skateboarded yesterday and with mono people are super lethargic.) Anyway, the dr prescribed a different antibiotic than the one he was on and also gave him a cortisone shot for the throat swelling. He said we may need to see an Ear Nose Throat dr if there is an abscess that needs draining or if he needs his tonsils out. Let's hope the new antibiotics work!!!
And while waiting I noticed this=
Where it says "kills 99% of bacteria".... why dont we just coat his throat with it?!?!!!!!
I like this kitchen
I just saw this on the internet and thought, WOW, I really like that kitchen! So I thought I'd share it.
We are still living in our "starter" home, and not by any means our "dream" home, so maybe it's time to start thinking about fixing it up. I wonder how hard it would be....our kitchen is at the back of the house, so we would just have to add on to the back, right???
I want it!

Church Basketball
Church basketball started today. We always look forward to it because it's something to do on Saturday, but we ALWAYS come away from it upset and stressed. It is basketball, but, really, it just has the appearance of basketball. Some of the rules are different. Like the clock does not stop during free throws or kids tying their shoes or any stoppage, so the quarters go by REALLY fast. Also, the refs are AWFUL. I know they are volunteers, who dont get paid, and give a lot of time and early morning Saturdays are probably not something they look forward too. I know I should appreciate them because without them, there wouldnt be a game, but, seriously, are they even watching the same game, do they even know the rules, do they have to show such bias!!!??!?!?!!! And, I could really go on about my complaints, or I could just not go watch, but I think sports are fun and fun to watch, so I will keep attending. The new league rules do not allow Andrew to play (makes me mad,and I've tried unsuccessfully to fight it), but if Bradley ever decides to stop playing, I will not care AT ALL.
