Enoch

doxey-61

Enoch has been a lot of fun lately. I have a friend, AM, who has told me since I met her that her favorite age with her kids has been the kindergarten age. I’m just now beginning to find out why and how much I’m loving it as well. I know I complain a lot about Enoch’s latest emotional stage but with his emotions, comes a lot of other funny stories. I always thought the emotions would be with little girls, but, little boys really are bad sometimes with emotions. He cries a lot now, throws tantrums, hissy fits, will hit and punch things when he’s angry, yells & screams at me, and several other antics that I just sort of…well, I just breathe through them really. When he yells at me or Joe, or hurts Travis with these fits, he gets a time out, don’t worry. But most of the time, I know its just something he needs to work out on his own and learn to understand what he’s feeling so he can express himself better the next time. Its been interesting for the last few months, to say the least. So mothers of little boys, BEWARE – there is an emotional roller coaster ahead of you!

Story #1 – Last Sunday

I was in the lobby at church with Travis because he hates nursery. I mean HATES it, with a passion, and refuses to go. So I miss out on Sunday School and Relief Society, much to my dismay. Anywho – My friend S comes running up the hall towards me and tells me that Enoch is giving a talk in Primary and wants to know if I’m coming to help him. Now I’m looking at her all confused because Enoch didn’t come home with a talk assignment the week before or an assignment for prayer or scripture so I’m a little fuzzy. Maybe he forgot to give me the assignment? I don’t know, so I go to primary anyway. Sure enough, Enoch is sitting up front with the other kids who are giving talks and the like. In our primary, they have two talks, a scripture and a prayer for closing exercises. Well, they had the two talks, a scripture and a prayer up there waiting to share their piece and then there’s Enoch, just beaming away. So I go up and sit next to him and ask what he’s doing. The conversation is as follows:

Enoch – I’m giving a talk today Mom.

Me – Oh, were you asked to give a talk?

Enoch – No, but I’m giving a talk today.

Me – Would you rather give the scripture or the prayer?

Enoch – No, I want to give a talk.

So now I’m looking at M, the secretary and asking her if she assigned a talk to him – No. She informs me that he even told her that he had a talk prepared and it was under some random chair in the primary room. I roll my eyes and ask her what the topic is, Enoch is now up, so he stands up, we give a 60 second speal on the topic and sit down. Enoch is just pleased as punch with himself. The other two talks are given, the scripture is read and the prayer is said. And Enoch got to give his talk. I told everyone in primary, if anyone bails on ya, just call on Enoch. He’s ready anytime.

Story #2 – The Interview

Lately, Enoch will come and talk to me while I’m, reading, typing, helping Travis, whatever. And he’ll have a pad of paper and a pen. He will sit down all professional like and click his little pen and it starts:

Enoch – SO Mom, I’d like to ask you some questions.

Me – Ok, fire away.

Enoch – So, what was it like when Travis was in yours tummy?

Me – It was fun but it was nice to meet him when he got here.

Enoch – Hmm, hmm. Ok, good. And what else?

Me – Well, what else would you like to know?

Enoch – Did you like having me in yours tummy?

Me – Yes, you were a lot of fun to have in my tummy.

Enoch – Hmm, hmm. Ok, good. And what else?

Me – Enoch, you’re the best.

Enoch – Hmm, hmm. Ok…Wait, that wasn’t the question Mom!

He truly is a fun little personality. I’ll share more as I get them! Promise! Open-mouthed smile

Don't tell me this!! That is why I was excited to have 2 boys! Less emotions! I guess I have to admit that so far Jack is pretty dramatic. Sigh. :)

I love it! I'm also dealing with emotions with my kindergartener, but she refuses to give talks or even prayers in primary. Cute stories. Thanks for the reminder to be patient and know we'll get through it.
