Flag Tutorial and My Flag Quilt

Happy Wednesday sweet friends.
Our Texas weather has been so nice.
It is a rare thing for us to be able to open
our windows without melting.  lol!
But it has been nice to hear the birds sings.

I showed my the flag quilt that I made on IG
and I have had a few people asked me about
the pattern I used.
Since I made my block smaller I thought
I would share the measurements with you.

For the blue square cut 1  4 1/2 x 5 1/2
Cut 2  red strips   1 1/2 x 6 1/2
Cut 2 white strips   1 1/2 x 6 1/2
Cut 2 red strips 1 1/2 x 11 1/2
Cut 2 white strips 1 1/2 x 11 1/2

TIP:  I like to cute my strips a tad bit longer
for squaring up.

Sew the red 1 1/2 x 6 1/2 to a white 1 1/2 x 6 1/2
press to the red
add the a 1 1/2 x 6 1/2 to the white
press to the red
sew on the last white 1 1/2 x 6 1/2 to the red
press to the red

TIP:  To keep your strips from stretching I sew
each strip beginning at opposite ends each time.
If you set your seams on the dark fabric
it is easier to press to the dark fabric

Sew a red 1 1/2 x 11 1/2 to a white 1 1/2 x 6 1/2
press to the red
add a red 1 1/2 x 11 1/2 to the white
press to the red
Sew the last 1 1/2 x 11 1/2 strip to the red
press to the red

You now have 3 units
1 blue 4 1/2 x 5 1/2
1 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 red and white strips
1 4 1/2 x 11 1/2 red and white strips

Sew the 4 1/2 x 5 1/2 blue square to the
4 1/2 x 6 1/2  strips
It should measure 4 1/2 x 11 1/2

(I made 24 blocks)

When you sew the 4 1/2 x 11 1/2 strips
to the upper unit this is how your block will
look.
It should measure 8 1/2 x 11 1/2

Sashing and Corner Stone Measurements

30 white 2 1/2 x 8 1/2 strips to sew on the right and left
sides of each flag

28 white 2 1/2 x 11 1/2 strips

17 red 2 1/2 inch squares for the corner stones
17 blue 2 1/2 inch squares for the corner stones

I alternated the red and blue corner stones on the
2 1/2 x 11 1/2 inch sashing strips.

This is my quilt all quilted.
I have hoarded the backing fabric
since 2005.  Just waiting to use it
on the perfect quilt.

I got my binding all made and sewn on
yesterday.  Now I just need to hand sew
it down.  That is something I usually
do at night while watching tv with
my sweet hubby.

Hope you get to do something you love today.

Hugs

Quilt Sampler 2013 Block 9

HoHoHo Merry Christmas all.

Hope you are enjoying the Christmas Season.  I only have 2 more things to buy and I am done.  WhooHoo!  How about you, are you all done?

Ok now for block 9

Cut 4 pink 3  7/8 inch squares.
Cut one white 3  7/8 inch square.

Cut 2 pink 4 1/8 inch square.
Cut 2 white 4  1/8 inch square.

Lay the pink 4  1/8 inch square on top of a white  4  1/8 inch square wrong sides together.
Using your ruler cut them in half diagonally, you will do this again with the other pink 4  1/8 inch and white 4  1/8 inch square.

So that you have a total of 4 half square triangles.

Sew your triangles together using a 1/4 inch seam.

Remember to set your seams.

Press open to the pink.

You will have 4 of these.

This is the placement for your block.

Here ya go.  Your block will measure 10 1/2 inches.
Next Wednesday is Christmas so I was thinking I may post Block 10 on Monday.

Hope you are having a wonderful week so far and staying warm.

Pam Kitty Picnic Pinwheel Quilt

Hello there.
Last weekend was a pinwheel weekend.

(Sorry this picture is bad)
I tried taking it out side and the minute I stood up to take the picture the wind blew.  UGHH!

I fussy cut some of Pam Kitty Picnic's panel.

I cut the panel so the scallops and dots would show when I sewed everything together.

I had to do the pinwheels an odd size to make them work.   But all in all I think it came out great.  I have a few more Pam Kitty Picnic fabrics on order so cross your fingers it comes in.

Well hope y'all are enjoying the wonderful Christmas Season.

Finished 2 More Quilts of Valor

Hi all.

I got 2 more quilts of Valor all quilted and trimmed ready for the next person to bind them.  These are some quilts that our quilt guild is doing for the Military.  I believe they are going to hand them out after the beginning of the year.  Well, I was hoping you would be able to see the quilting on this one.

I have done a few of these quilts but just did not think to take pictures of them DUH!

You can see the quilting on this one better.  I quilted both of them the same.  There are flags and stars in this pattern.  The quilting pattern is called Patriot.   I just think it fits these quilts perfectly.

We have family coming for Thanksgiving this Sunday so it is time to start cooking and then our family will do Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving day.  Mmmmm lots of yummy food.  Hope y'all have a Blessed weekend.

You can leave a comment for each one, that way it will double your chances to win.  I will draw a winner Monday October 7th.
Good Luck.

This is the finish for my Raggedy Ann and Andy baby quilt.  For the sashing and binding I used Kona red and the borders are 1/4 inch red gingham  by Riley Blake.  I gave it as a gift at a baby shower on Saturday.

For the back I used  a fabric with red bows and dots.  I did simple quilting on it.  Loops.

Hope you are having a happy, happy, happy Monday.

Antique Quilt and A Finish

Good Monday Morning Chick a dee's.

I am so in love with this antique quilt.   I repaired it for a customer who wants to hand it down to his daughter.  It was such a pleasure to repair.  Each stitch keeping in mind the sweet hands that stitched it originally, wanting to make her proud.   I just love this pattern.  Some of the blocks where made out of flour sacks and some out of old clothing.  You just have to admire the quilt maker for using what she had.   Does anyone know what the name of the block is?

I finished this quilt last year but never finished the binding.   It is finally all complete.  The pattern is called Blissful Day out of Quilt Magazine (not sure what year).  I am pretty sure the fabrics I used was an Urban Chicks line.  Forgot to take a picture of the back, the back is red with white pin dots and the binding is a red and white gingham.

Hope you have a great sewing day.

Friday Night With Friends

I joined in Friday night with FRIENDS at Cheryll's over at http://stitchingcubbyhole.blogspot.com/  I fell like I got a lot done.  I finished quilting the surprise quilt that I can not show you yet and it might be a little bit longer.  I still have to sew the binding on and down.

My sister (Wanda) spent the whole day with me.  We did not get to get together for Christmas so this was our day.  After I finished quilting the surprise quilt I put my sister's quilt on and I got it all quilted.  She made this quilt for a 16th birthday.  She did very well I think.  As you can tell we do not have the binding on it she was going home to do that as it was getting late.

I did finish the binding on this quilt.  This is my Raggedy Ann and Andy quilt.  It is made out of a vintage sheet and it is one of my favorite things.  I quilted hearts and flowers on it.

Here is a closer look.

The yellow check is also a vintage sheet.  I just thought it went so well with this quilt.

Hope you are having a quilty day.

Happy Valentine's Day

Thought I would share a few of my Valentiney quilts with you.  Some of you may have already seen them.

I wanted to show the the back of the top rose quilt.  So you can see the quilting.

This quilt is out of one my Darlene Zimmerman books.

This is my very first quilt I pieced.  I have it displayed on my grandmother's bed.

I found this quilt pattern in a magazine.  So sorry I can not remember which one.  It has been a while since I made this one.

I think this is a Quilt Soup pattern.

Hope you all have the Valentine's Day of your dreams.
