October Sketch-n-Color by Mistra

Hello my peeps! It is FINALLY starting to feel like fall here in California. We actually get to experience the turning of the leaves in our new place because there are trees EVERYWHERE. I love the bit of crispness that is in the air and I have a burning desire to start baking... after all, the holidays are just around the corner and I can start "practicing" some new recipes.

I have a FABULOUS sketch using some very fall looking colors by the lovely and talented Mistra Hoolahan. Her sketches are awesome! The colors she uses for the sketches are based off of my Mix'd Media Inx from Clearsnap/Colorbox. Below is the sketch for October and Mistra used another one of my FAVE Mix'd Media Inx colors... Patina!
These sketches are just for your own enjoyment but you can post the projects you make in the Girlie Grunge Gallery if you like. Enjoy...

"You & Me" Layout using July Sketch-n-Color by ~ Tracey Sabella

Hi everyone. Its Tracey here to share a wedding layout of our daughter, Elizabeth and her husband on their wedding day. I've used the July Sketch N Color for inspiration.

"You & Me"
You & Me Shabby Chic Layout by Tracey Sabella for Donna Salazar.

July Sketch-n-Color (rotated)

Tips and Techniques
You & Me Shabby Chic Layout by Tracey Sabella for Donna Salazar. Open Lace Rose, Bitty Blossoms
I've created all the flowers using Donna's Spellbinder dies. A tutorial for my Open Lace Rose using her Grand Peony and Rose Creation dies can be found HERE. I've added a couple extra layers here, but the process is the same.

You & Me Shabby Chic Layout by Tracey Sabella for Donna Salazar. Bitty Blossoms
The smaller flowers are created with Donna's Spellbinders Bitty Blossoms dies and Mix'd Media Stax 2 mulberry paper.

You & Me Shabby Chic Layout by Tracey Sabella for Donna Salazar. Die Cuts and Alpha
I used Donna's Art Gone Wild Heart Applique stamp to heat emboss this pretty heart image on a die cut diamond.

You & Me Shabby Chic Layout by Tracey Sabella for Donna Salazar. Mix'd Media Inx
I just love happy mistakes. I stamped this Lace Corner with Jasmine Mix'd Media Inx and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. The image faded into the background. I really wanted this image to show up, so I misted the squares with water, then spritzed with Donna's Sea Breeze Smooch Spritz and the embossed image now pops.

Normally I ink these sweet chipboard alphas, but love the way they show up on the page so beautifully in their natural state.

Each of my squares is hand stitched around the edge and then distressed with Donna's Zutter Distrezz-it-All.

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you've been inspired to grab some of your Donna Salazar Products and our July Sketch to created a layout of your fave photos.

Quick Craft Tips - June Sketch-n-Color

Hello my peeps! It has been FOR-EV-ERRR since I have scrapped and it made it so much easier to have a sketch and color scheme to start me off! So... here is what I made for the blog and I've also got a "mostly" start to finish video of my process. I changed the embellishments so many times that I ended up doing it off camera... LOL! See... ALL of us have those kinda days!

Here is the reminder of what the sketch looks like:
The colors and flowery nature of Mistra's sketch didn't exactly work for this picture of my grandson but I added some denim and replaced the flowers with stars cut using Spellbinder's dies and it all worked out.

The stars were cut with Spellbinder's Stars Five set
The denim is from my daughter's Etsy shop: BlueGeneBaby

The sparkle is my newly renamed glitter: Twinkle Dust (formerly FairyDust)

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the word "Moments", used a labeler for the "Quiet" and mini stamps from Michael's for the "with grammy."

I doodled around the edges of the stars and the different layers. I used 3D Foam Squares to add dimension and layers with the stars.

Product used
Clearsnap/Colorbox:
Mix'd Media Inx - Peaches, Honey, Adobe
Twinkle Dust - Pralines & Cream
Smooch Spritz - Pralines & Cream
3L Scrapbook Adhesives:
3D Foam Squares
Crafty Power Tape
Kraft Photo Corners
Zutter:
Distrezz-it-All
Scor-it-All (foam pad for stitch holes)
BlueGeneBaby:
Denim Hem with Rivets
Silhouette Cameo:
Perfect Flourish Words - Remember Today by Kolette Hall

Well that's all for now. Thanks for stopping by! Smooches ~D~

April Sketch~n~Color

Hello my peeps! Our move to Mission Viejo is still in progress... will it ever end? I've finished most of the house painting... just a hallway left and I'll be done (for now). I'm starting on new e-Classes and YouTube videos this week so be on the lookout for new stuff from me... FINALLY!

Mistra's sketches are uber-AMAZING and she always gets them to me on time... However, that doesn't necessarily mean that I'm on the ball enough to post them on time... LOL! I'm posting this a bit late but better late than never. My DT girlies are creating projects with these sketches so be on the lookout for those too.

So without further ado... here it this month's sketch for your enjoyment!

"Guy Time" Layout with Faux Metal Gear Tutorial by ~ Tracey Sabella

Hi, it's Tracey here to share a masculine layout inspired by the March Sketch'n Color Challenge by our talented Mistra Hoolahan. I just adore this fun photo of our son-in-law and his groomsmen at the wedding. The brick walls of the church in the background worked so perfectly with this month's gorgeous color challenge.

"Guy Time"

March Sketch'n Color
For details on how to join this month's challenge go here.

Tips and Techniques
Although I did not create my flowers for this project, I colored them some of them with Donna's inks and the larger flowers were stamped using Donna's Art Gone Wild Crackle stamp. I used more stamping around the borders of the page and around the photo using the Ruler, Bubble Wrap, Dear Sir, and Crackle stamps.

Here's a close-up of the Faux Metal Gears I created with Donna's Spellbinder Sprightly Sprockets dies. These are so easy to make, and I've included a tutorial below.

A friend recently had some old film developed and gave me the end pieces. I used some to frame my photo. The chicken wire is from another friend and the patina is real. It was actually used for a chicken coop at one point. And check out the patina and old paint on this vintage key - a yard sale find.

I mixed some of Donna's Clearsnap Mix'd Media Inx Reinkers in Black and Leather to splatter across the page.

Another close-up shot of the fabulous gears below the photo. I have a confession to make. I had created another page for this photo with a strip of stenciled bricks across the page. It just wasn't working for me, so I started over again. The first page was not a total loss since I cut the bricks into strips and tucked them in around my photo and clusters. They were created using Donna's Want2Scrap Small Brick Stencil (8" x 10") with extra coarse Pumice Gel Medium then colored with Mix'd Media Inx.

Faux Metal Gear Tutorial
I enjoy creating masculine pages and grungy metallic gears are such a perfect embellishment. They are so easy these are and all who see them can't believe they're not metal.

Supplies
Die Cut Machine ~ Spellbinders Artisan X-plorer
Good Quality Black Cardstock
Spellbinders ~ Donna Salazar - Sprightly Sprockets Dies
Clearsnap ~ Gold Ink
Clearsnap ~ Copper Ink

Step 1. Cut and emboss black cardstock with Sprightly Sprocket dies, making sure you have a nice embossed imprint on the paper.

Step 2. Rub the embossed paper gear with gold metallic ink.

Step 3. Rub the gear with copper metallic ink. The ink really brings out the texture of the embossing. I used a light hand with the ink allowing the black to show around the embossed areas. You can always layer on more ink if needed.

***Hint*** You can use any color(s) of metallic ink and even a bit of aqua or teal for a patina effect if desired ~ whatever goes with your layout.

I hope you've been inspired to create a project for Donna's
March Girlie Grunge Sketch'n Color Challenge.
Details for the challenge can be found here.
