Original Oil Painting Copper Kettle

Copper Kettle with Friends

Sold

12" x 12"
Painted on gessobord.

I found this copper kettle at the local antique shop. I am starting to become a pack rat when it comes to still life objects. I hate dusting so they stay in the basement on shelves until I need them. I wonder what other artists do with all the still life objects. Do they eventually end up at Goodwill or in a rummage sale? Maybe I should look into antique shops that rent objects. Well for now this copper kettle was painted once and will probably be painted again. Thanks for viewing my Copper Kettle painting!

Original Oil Painting Sunflowers and Peaches

Sunflowers and Peaches

12" x 12"
Sold

Here is a still life with three of my favorite things to paint: sunflowers, peaches and copper. It took many photos to get a good image to post. The weather here is really up and down. One day it is 85 sunny and muggy and the next 62 and raining.

Original Oil Painting Old World Still Life

Old World Still Life

12" x 12"

Sold

I painted this on a slightly rougher texture. I added a couple coats of gesso to the already gessobord leaving it rough. The paint was put on very thickly with sometimes many layers. I was trying to give it an old, vintage look. I was really happy with the way the copper and bowl turned out. The bright oranges added a nice contrast. I hope you like my antique way of painting?

Original Oil Painting Sunflowers and Tomatoes

Sunflowers and Tomatoes

16" x 20"
Painted on stretched canvas.

This is one of my larger paintings. I like this still life because of the variations of textures: glass, clay and copper. I added the tomatoes because I wanted a strong color on the left to balance the large golden sunflowers. There are a lot of strong items in this painting but they all play so well with each other. I really enjoyed painting this still life.

Original Oil Painting Copper and Onions

Copper and Onions

16" x 20"

Painted on stretch canvas.

I added the final touches to the still life. I darken the background on the cloth and brighten the high-lighten part of the cloth. I also brighten some areas of the side of the copper I thought looked a little dirty. I am happy with the results so I am calling it finished.  Yeah!!

Original Oil Painting Peaches and Pansies

Peaches and Pansies

12" x 12"

Sold

Here is another painting I made for my master class. I thought the copper would give me the most problems but it was the peaches. I can not tell you how many times I scraped off the paint on the front two peaches, I lost count. I seem to do more second guessing. Doing this for a course and knowing it will be critiqued has that affect on me. Taking this course keeps me on my toes and that is a good thing!

Original Oil Painting Copper Bowl with Fruit

Copper Bowl with Fruit

SOLD

10" x 10"
Painted on gesso panel.

This is the small copper bowl that came with the copper cup I painted below. This one had a lot more shine to it which made it easier to paint. To my surprise the other items were more of a challenge.

Original Oil Painting Copper Challenge

Copper Challenge
Sold

10" x 10"
Painted on gesso panel.

I painted this for DPW weekly challenge which was to paint something copper.  I was lucky enough to have a brother who had a small copper cup that my dad used to put nail files and toe nail clippers in. It was very old and kind of dull. To make it sparkle a little more I added the Christmas bulbs and bow and enhance the color reflections I saw in the cup. Copper was quite a challenge. I will have to try to fine more copper items to paint that are a bit more reflective.
