ALL IN GOOD TIME~

My mild mannered, even tempered, petite banty beauty Josephine has gone BROODY. A broody hen might be compared to a MENOPASUAL women or one experencing a bad case of PMS. Josephine has recently decided she perfers her own company and would greatly appreciate the coop to herself and all that enter should BEWARE...especially ROOSTERS...Now being that I, a kind hearted, loving coop keeper...but not wanting anymore chicks...and certainly not wanting to take the chance of more roosters joining our little flock...I quickly and quietly placed three lovely wooden eggs in the nest box...Josephine is tolerant...and appears quite content... Thrifting 101... Cathy of the wonderful blog Acorn Hollow, shares with her readers the wonderful items she discovers FREE at the DUMP STORE. She has scored big time over and over again and recently found a Salmon Falls Pottery Lamp, which originally sold for $150.00.Really big score... I have never been so lucky and we do not have a DUMP STORE in my area, however, some weeks ago I saw this lamp at Goodwill... it is a pottery lamp from L.L.Bean and the Goodwill price of $2.50. BIG SCORE...

Last week, at a flea market I stumbled upon this book, the classic The Night Before Christmas, but what is special about this book it is illistrated by dear Tasha Tudor, also $2.50.

and last but certainly not least, a child's size Radio Flyer wheelbarrow.

It is not old nor vintage, but brand new and fifteen dollars less than what I had expected to pay for a new one at Tractor Supply. Someday I anticipate a little boy pushing it along the dirt driveway, possibly filled with frogs or snakes, trucks and tractors, saying "Granny, Granny look what I have found." All in good time, all in good time.

BLAME IT ON THE SUN~

Good Monday everyone...my fair ladies, my girls, my hens, have been scurring about the yard on this fine sunny day... yes... SUNSHINE...so full of themselves they are...why Gladys is a perfect example...with all the rainy weather we here in Southern Maine have been enduring over the past few weeks... we are a bit moldy to say the least...time to shake out the feathers and let the sunshine do it's magic...Oh, the feeling of warm sunshine, it does a body good...especially a middle aged body such as mine...With caution thrown to the wind my hens decided to rearrange the vegetable garden...if you are a hen and spy an open garden gate why it only makes sense...to hens anyway...to scratch around a bit...and being that the sun is shining of course you get carried away...needless to say... I do realize what is in store for me tomorrow...reminder to self...a new latch on the old garden gate is needed SOONER rather than later...
Mr. Gnome tiptoed out of the wood and found a perfect spot to air himself out...safe and sound in the arms of a crab apple tree...shhhhh don't let on...there might be fairies in the air...do you believe?

Petunia's have been dead-headed and are beginning to recover from the cold wet weather...

butterflies have been in abundance...

perennial gardens are filling out...now, in my humble opinion... Lady's Mantle is one perennial no gardener should be without...don't you agree?

Our sunshine... Travis Lloyd made his first offical visit to Marmee's house...soon asleep in the arms of his grandfather, Mr. Dog Trot...

and in the arms of his great-grandmother...Nanny

and finally, my turn, Marmee...

three weeks old...shhhhhhh....I let you in on a little secret...this afternoon while changing his diaper...I was informing Travis of all the wonderful adventures he and I were to have...I referred to myself as "Grannie J" and he looked in my eyes and SMILED.... sunshine and magic...with a bit of fairy dust...he believes...

OWLS AND MONKEYS, OH MY

Hip Hip Hooray a bit of sunshine found us today...flowers bowed their soggy heads in thanks
while others stretched their arms and legs, hanging out over the old tub container...

I have discovered The Land of Nod...and what an enchanting land it is...

The Land of Nod is an eye popping catalog filled with quality items and decorating ideas for a baby's nursery...a child's room... wall decals...how cute...

or a teen's retreat...how lovely is this Jenny Lind bed...painted in the prettiest shade of teal, complimented by an embroidered wildflower quilt...and accessorized with the sweetest little touches.

Recently I have been looking for unique ideas to create a welcoming space for baby Travis...a space that will grow with him...a cozy nook to call his own...one filled with lots of books, handmade toys, hanging animal lanterns, unique storage containers... a bright rug...love the one below...

the challenge...to pull this project off on a tiny budget... the color theme, chocolate brown and teal ...there will be owls...

and monkeys...

which are beginning...

to make an appearance...

life is just a barrel full of monkeys...

even on rainy days...

RAIN..RAIN..GO AWAY...

Rain....rain and more rain...I blame my lack of mental aptitude on our gloomy weather...
Rainy days are not my forte and it appears neither are they for a particular grey squirrel who has decided to relocate his place of residence to that of a dry chicken coop. The hens, not happy about an intruder, promptly opted for an outing despite the dismal weather conditions. The rodent remained ensconced in the coop till Mr. Dog Trot arrived home. A scene from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation(squirrel jumps out of the Christmas tree and attaches itself onto various family members) was not to be had on my watch...

Despite the abundance of rain and lack of sunshine, flower and vegetable gardens are taking hold...and when chickens do not adhere to the terms agreed upon when sharing a patch of earth...chicken wire along with a "NO TRESPASSING" sign is installed.

The big red IH tractor made it's appearance early this year- typically seen the second week of June, this year's hay crop was ready before the end of May.

Gladys, Pearly Mae, Pheobe, LuLu Belle, Beatrix and Henny Penny enjoy abit of sunshine before the rain...treats of oatmeal with blueberries aid in keeping the girl's spirits up and when spirits are up so is egg production...the colors of summer are beginning to appear in the perennial bed...how I enjoy the feeling of dirt in my hands...

on dark gloomy days such as these...a ray of sunshine is but a few steps away...there is no better way to brighten one's day, then cuddling a new baby in the crook of an arm...Oh, how I am enjoying being a Marmee...

FYI...Mr. Dog Trot has informed me that he was GROWLED at while Mr. Squirrel was being ushered out the hen house door...who knew...I thought squirrels barked...Please, someone send me some sunshine!!!

MEMORIAL DAY~

Star Spangled Happiness and Banner Waves of Pride...Cherishe Archer...
Memorial Day...a day to remember and give thanks to all the men and women who have bravely served this great country of ours and to those who continue to do so...a heartfelt... THANK YOU...

Mr. Dog Trot recently informed me that I owed it to him to update you, my lovely blog readers, about my clothesline (fiasco) situation...I am hppy to report the line is in tact and functioning... have you ever noticed ticks coming in the house on your lined dried laundry? I do... There now is an ebb and flow to my days, flower gardens are being planted...seeds and seedlings being purchased for the vegetable garden...the old tube of BENGAY is being put to good use as well as the Spring Chicken Rub for sore (old) muscles...do you wear gardening gloves while working in dirt? not something I have ever gotten use to...

flowers are popping...

the shade garden is filling in nicely...

Maybeline and her sister's have moved out to the "big house"

all fowl are trying to remain on their best behavior...not easy...

paths have been mowed...I'm waiting for my friend to call and inform me that "my girls" have taken a field trip and wandered into her backyard...or better yet her swimming pool...I wonder if chickens swim?

and to celebrate the beginning of the summer season...off to the clam shack we went...Mr. Dog Trot consumed a lobster roll...my dad enjoyed a clam strip dinner...with some help from Mr. Dog Trot...my mom the whole clam dinner...also with some help from Mr. Dog Trot...me...the kid size portion of chicken tenders...I always get the "what is wrong with you" look...okay... I admit it.. I DO NOT LIKE SEAFOOD...in any shape or form...I did save room for ice cream...

and the love of our lives...Travis Lloyd...attended his first parade...tucked safe in the arms of his grandfather...napping...

Winslow Homer would like you to know it is hard work being a "grampy dog"

but somebody has to do it!!! What's happening in your neck of the woods? I'd love to know!!

~TOMORROW IS ANOTHER DAY~

Sunny rain...a glimmer of sunshine on this rainy Tuesday...I need to pull my head out of the clouds...seriously...laundry has multiplied two fold, the chicks need to be CLEANED, their wood chips seem to have made the way up the stairs, I need to break out the vacuum cleaner...I can't seem to focus... Memorial weekend is just days away...flags need to be brought out...gardens need attending...

flowers bought...containers just waiting to be filled with new potting soil...a trip to the grocery store is in order...one can only live on cereal for just so long...

The hens are complaining... I need to go to the feed store...Winslow Homer is out of shampoo...the vegetable garden...peas with lettuce...nothing else...

Gladys is tired of being ignored...and wonders where the treats have gone to...

Mr. Dog Trot reminds me that the clothesline has been up and restrung for over a week now...I give a little sigh...

and he says...okay...lets go see the baby...and tomorrow is another day! I hope to catch up with my blog reading ASAP please forgive me. Thank you to all my wonderful blog friends and readers for the kind comments, I so appreciate them and you too. Hugs, Julie aka Marmee.

Marmee...I am a Marmee, I'm still walking on air since the birth of my first grandbaby...I beg your indulgence, I can't seem to help myself...on a warm sunny Sunday afternoon...the new family arrived home...
both parents looking a bit fatigued...

however, no complaints were uttered...just adoring gazes..

Travis Lloyd Neily is home...resting in the arms of his great grandmother...my mom...just two days old...

as his proud great grandfather Lloyd...my dad...

looks on...the world seems to be a better place all because of Travis...I am a Marmee!
