PDP 2015

Hello!

I am Rui Qi and this is my first post here as the Secretary of the 4th batch of Dunman High Chapter :)

After about 5 months of joining the chapter, it is now time for the 4th batch of YAs to step up to lead the chapter.

We had our Passing Down Parade (PDP) on 20th May, which started off with a passing down ceremony whereby the chapter stood in a horseshoe formation and each EXCO member passed down their role to the next batch of YAs. Similar to last year, we have 4 members in the EXCO this year.

Jaynell & Rui Qi - 3rd and 4th Batch Secretaries
Cheryl & Ruo Rou - 3rd and 4th Batch QMs + Treasurers
3rd and 4th Batch Vice-Chairpersons saluting to Yin Ci
Rhonda & Wen Ting - 3rd and 4th Batch Vice-Chairpersons
Natalie & Yin Ci - 4th and 3rd Batch Chairpersons
With all the Year 5s present :)

Secretary - Jaynell

Secretary - Rui Qi

After the ceremony... both batches exchanged gifts with one another. Afterwhich, we proceeded with the games and passing down celebration which was planned by the Year 5s (namely our new Chairpersons Natalie and Wen Ting) for the Year 6s.

Firstly, the Year 5s performed a short skit for the Year 6s, summarising our experience as new YAs with the Year 6s welcoming and guiding us along.

Next, we were split into 2 groups to play a series of games! The games included:
1. Completing tasks such as dancing to Maboleh and Chek Chek and answering questions in order to piece together a puzzle picture of the Year 6 YAs
2. Answering basic OJ skills questions. For each wrong answer, the group would have to retrieve a sweet each from a plate of flour.
The games brought us back to our Guiding days and many of us were overwhelmed by bittersweet nostalgia :)
Shi Hui and Yeokmin having a Chek Chek dance battle!

We also sat in a circle to play the very same games that we played on the first 集合 the Year 5s joined as YAs, with a new forfeit implemented - the loser of each round would have her face painted with flour!

Yinci got her eyebrows dyed!
Then, we had KFC for dinner with a large dispenser full of Ribena, courtesy of the guiders :)

Finger Lickin' Good!
Group photo with our gifts! We hope all the seniors like the gifts we prepared!

To the 3rd Batch of YAs, thank you for all your dedication in leading the DHS chapter the past year. You are a group of very vibrant and warm seniors who never fail to inject laughter and joy into our activities; we will definitely miss y'all and may your passion for Guiding keep on burning!

Lastly, the 4th batch of YAs will continue to strive hard to bring the DHS chapter and coy to greater heights :)

Our Journey

Dear All,

As the Secretary, I was given the duty of documenting the chapter activities. And so I decided to create a blog which popped up in this small little space on the Internet as of January 2013. Now that the term of the pioneer batch of YAs has come to an end (PDP was on Friday, we'll leave that to the next secretary, shall we?), I thought I could make use of this platform to do something special as well.

I have no idea how this would turn out, but let me give it a try:

Let's walk down the memory lane of 2012 again, something our Y5 YAs can't find traces of from Facebook or elsewhere. Something we've shared perhaps only through certain meetings, something we've kept in our hearts all along and also perhaps among the uncountable folders in the computer or inboxes..

In December 2011, we decided to participate in the new YA Developmental Programme launched by GGS on 1st October 2011. The four of us were clueless to what we should be doing, but we had Mdm Tan and the rest of the guiders leading us along.

In any case, we got inducted as YAs in February 2012.

What followed after were meetings after meetings, and having finalised our exco roles after what seemed like ages, we submitted the application form for the creation of a new Chapter.

On 11 Jul 2012, we met up with the YABC and finalised more details, before we officially welcomed our very own Dunman High Chapter.

Activities
We tried to get activities going, albeit they might have been very small scaled, given just the 4-6 of us. We did gadgeting, drills, cooking (we tried coconut and pumpkin vessel cooking too! no pix though) and orienteering. We also had sessions with the Edgefield guides every now and then, where we covered on skills and also planning of activities.

Then came an idea. We wanted something big annually.
Camping was the first thing that came to our minds. And we decided on that. We planned and prepared and executed and evaluated ourselves, just four of us, and our seniors Pei Shan and Kimberley joined us on Day 2. You may have heard us reminiscing all about it often, because the memory of this camp, is really deeply etched in us.

YAL Camp
Pre-Camp:
Preparation of our own camp shirts! We ironed the designs on for each and every one of the shirts ourselves!

Camp D. for us:
just a kitchen shelter with an additional storage deck above, but built with only 4 girls, and with the help of the trusty little red ones.

The next highlight was on Day 2 - our 海陆空 challenge where we conquered the air, sea, and land altogether! To summarise, we walked, had mobile tasks, cycled, made a kite, and kayaked. :)

We ended the camp with some of our Y4s (now Y5s) joining us for an OC-cum-sharing session. The food was good, especially the bread which we succeeded luckily! :)

End of Camp!

Malaysia Trip
We ended the year with a Service Learning cum Adventure Trip to Malaysia with some of our then Y3/4 guides! We visited children at the Agape Home for a short session with them, dancing and folding origami. In view of Christmas, we also prepared gifts for them and our girls had enjoyed the interaction with the children there. Hopefully this had served as a good exposure to all. The adventurous segments were exciting as well - we went caving and did water activities like swift water rescue! One other unforgettable highlight: we stayed in tree houses!!!! :)

/////

I guess these major activities concluded our chapter's activities for the year 2012. We've tried to bring in new things as we experiment and find our way through this whole new journey of being a YA. Hopefully our YAs and the new ones who will be joining us can discover more possibilities and create more fond memories with one another like we did.

We started out with such a small team, and here we are standing at the end of our journey, with 14 other girls by our side and making a promise together to us 4, that they will do their best to bring the chapter to greater heights. I am sure we have all felt the sincerity from you girls, and please do us proud like how we've always believed you girls would. :')

Remember, the chapter was, is and will always be our pride and responsibility, and now it's your turn to take over. If you ever forget what we say, remember what you've learnt from Guides still apply now. Go on, 用心去做 and keep this flame burning strong!

"I took the road less travelled by;
And that has made all the difference."

Here is the story of Our Journey, and an end of yet another chapter of our Guiding journey.
It is now YOUR turn, to write your own chapter.
All the best!

Yours-in-Guiding,
Leong Yik Sheng
Secretary
Dunman High YA Chapter, Pioneer Batch
