Easy DIY Lit Monogram

If you come to my house, you will find the letter “B” everywhere! This do-it-yourself lit monogram from Polka Dot Bride caught my eye and looks very simple to make. This piece will stand out during an outdoor evening reception or backyard barbecue!

You will need a set of Christmas lights and a wire frame letter. This project used Swiss Miss 10″ Wire Frame Letters and Ikea’s Staala lights. You will also need some wire to attach the lights to the wire letter. Craft stores sell this type of wire in their jewelry department.

Start wrapping the lights around the wire letter. Every now and then, secure the lights with wire.

If you want to hang the letter, attach some pretty some ribbon to the top. Voila! Easy and exquisite.

Chair sashes can add detail a pop of color to any event. Many customers ask us how to tie the chair covers, and here are some ideas to get you started.

Tying chair sashes takes longer than you think (we know from experience!). Make sure you practice and leave plenty of time in your schedule for sash tying. This is a great activity for people who want to help with your event!

Knotted Chair Sash
The easiest and fastest way to tie a chair sash is in a knot. You can either tie in a traditional knot, or hide the knot. This video gives you a great tip for hiding the knot once you have it tied.

One Loop Bow Sash
The one loop bow sash is unique, yet fairly easy to tie. To learn how, watch this video.

Traditional Bow Sash
Tying a bow sash is fairly easy as well. The trick is to make sure you pull the knot tight before you loop the bow. This video shows you how.

Side Bow Sash
Side bows add a modern and elegant touch to any event. This video shows you how.

Rosette Sash

The rosette sash is the most difficult and time consuming, but it has a definite wow factor. Watch this video to learn how to tie the rosette sash.

Sash Embellishments

Adding embellishments is another way to step up your chair covers a notch. Use shells, flowers, broaches, or whatever your imagination desires.

"What should I do to the ceiling at my wedding?"

In my days working at a wedding venue, a lot of brides had trouble deciding what to do with the ceiling. I hope this post will take your wedding wow factor from floor to ceiling.

Instead of trying to decorate the whole ceiling, just focus on a smaller area like over the dance floor, entry way or guest tables.

These Christmas balls make a big impact when draped above banquet tables. Use thread instead of fishing wire to hang the balls. Fishing line is too light for the balls and tends to curl up since it’s been wrapped in a spool. Depending on the ceiling, you may need to hang a grid to tie your ornaments to. We rent ceiling hooks for $0.50each. These hooks attach to grid ceilings and hold up to 15 pounds. Use chain from your local hardware store to hang the grid.

We hung these pink chandeliers in between each guest table. The chandelier tiers were made from different sized wire wreath frames. We used floral wire to attach artificial flowers to the rings. On the day of the wedding, we hung fresh flowers from ribbon to add dimension and height. Because the chandeliers were hung overhead, guests will assume all of the flowers are real.

We also draped the ceiling with some fabric we found at a store in Dallas. We hung rods from the ceiling and sewed a pocket in the edge of the fabric. We spray painted a garage-sale chandelier black plugged the chandelier into the ceiling. We draped Christmas lights between the panels of fabric to create a starry atmosphere over the dance floor.

Draping a ceiling with fabric can make an over-sized room seem cozier and less overwhelming.

Martha Stewart made tissue paper pom-poms super popular! They are easy to make and can be used everywhere. Watch this video tutorial to learn how to make them.

Paper Lanterns are always fun! Details Event & Party Rental rents all sizes and colors of lanterns for cheaper than you can buy them. Most of our customers don’t actually put a light in the lanterns.

Rehearsal Dinner

Orange rose centerpieces, feather boas and zebra table toppers added a fun touch to the fall festivities. The groom’s parents graciously hosted the rehearsal dinner in their backyard.

Tailer and Caine were glowing as their excitement grew for the evening and day ahead.

The bride had monogrammed cups made to add some personality. I loved the windmill in the background!

The groom posed for a picture with the bridesmaids after dinner. The groomsmen received monogrammed cufflinks, and the bridesmaids received monogrammed bags and matching jewelry that they wore during the ceremony.

DIY Table Lamp Centerpiece

A few issues in addition to budget constraints: the “lamps” needed to be cordless AND very tall in order to have a dramatic effect on the tent space, and also to ensure that the lamp shades don't get in the way of guests having conversations.

So… Ikea to the rescue, as usual! You can get one of two styles of big white lamp shades for the tops ($6-9 each) and tall Blomster floor block candle holders ($20 each) to act as the sturdy base (they’re heavy!). Then, you can create “pull cords” for the lamps using beading and attaching pendants at the bottom..

Of course one of the most important things for a lamp to do is to give off some light, and that was one of the trickiest parts! You can use battery-operated LED lights that are usually used for paper lanterns & set these in small clear glass cylinder vases at the top of the candle holder. The cylinder vases were secured so the candle holder with 3D glue dots and hidden by the lamp shade. These gave off just the right amount of “mood lighting” for a night time cocktail party!.

*****.

Budget - About $40 per centerpiece for 8 of these tall guys, and all of the elements are completely reusable!
P.S. These lamps & cocktail table linens are 100% stark white, but the night lighting makes them appear a little more cream in the photos.
Thanks HWTM for the idea!

Big Impact on a Budget

On a budget? Make candles your best friend. Candles are inexpensive and make a big impact, especially reflected from water, glass and gems. For a big impact centerpiece, hang votives from curly willow stems placed inside a large glass vase. Tie flowers to the stems to add color. Place candles around guest tables or inside cylinders or lanterns lining the entry. For more DIY centerpieces, visit our Gallery at detailseventrental.com.

Highlight one or two elements at the reception. If you love your cake, make it the center of attention by using a fancier table cloth or a canopy. Use elaborate centerpieces on half of the tables and smaller centerpieces on the others. By drawing attention to a few elements, you can save elsewhere.

Instead of a full bar, serve a signature cocktail . Display strawberries, olives, limes, and
other drink garnishes around the bar to add color. Have the drinks already poured into glasses when the guests arrive and displayed for a big color impact.

Even if you aren’t serving filet mignon, you can make the serving table look like you are. Don’t just set food out in chafing dishes, display it with style. For serving display ideas, visit our Gallery at http://www.detailseventrental.com/Gallery/Gallery%20-%20Buffet%20Tables%20Index.htm.
