Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne revealed on Wednesday, January 30, a revised version of the company's product plan for its seven of its mainstream brands in North America, including Chrysler, Jeep, RAM, Dodge, SRT, Fiat and Alfa Romeo.

Under the new schedule, the four small cars previously planned for Chrysler and Dodge, two for each brand, which would have been assembled by Fiat and be launched this year, are now dead.

Alfa Romeo’s return to the U.S. market, which is supposed to revive the historic Italian brand that’s currently on life support, has been announced more times than we can recall, only to be postponed time and time again.

In our 2013 NAIAS review we wrote that, compared to GM and Ford, not to mention foreign carmakers, the Fiat-Chrysler Group presence was underwhelming and we were wondering where Alfa Romeo was.

Apparently, others were thinking along the same line so they questioned the group’s CEO about it. Sergio Marchionne replied that he won’t be bringing the brand to the U.S. until the –long overdue- 159 mid-size sedan replacement, aka the Giulia, is perfect.

The Chrysler Group has prepared a new special edition version of the 300S sedan designed to commemorate the 50th anniversary from the presentation of its iconic 1963 Turbine concept car.

Set to be take the stage alongside the new 2013 Chrysler 300 Motown Edition at the Detroit motor show, the special edition model pays homage to the original turbine-powered study with a "Turbine Bronze" matte-finished exterior paint and Gloss Black painted roof.

Thursday, January 10, was a historic day for Chrysler as the first SRT Viper rolled off the production line at the Conner Avenue Assembly plant and was handed over to his owner, Scot Thomas, by Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne.

Thomas was the winning bidder for the #001 Viper at last year’s Barrett-Jackson auction. The 40-year old, who lives in Oklahoma, is the president of the APMEX precious metals company and paid US$300,000 for the car, the proceeds going to the Austin Hatcher Foundation for pediatric cancer research.

Hard as it may try to put to rest the “Government Motors” moniker its opponents have coined since the 2009 bailout, General Motors will probably have to deal with it again.

This time the reason is the data published by the General Services Administration (GSA), which show that GM surpassed Ford in federal government sales for the first time since the bailout.

The U.S. government purchased 19,404 vehicles from GM in the fiscal year ending September 30, 2012, which accounts for a 3.6 percent increase compared to 2011.

For the third time in the past four years, Toyota has been crowned the recall champion of the U.S. auto market, according to a Detroit News examination of all the data provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) throughout 2012.

Overall, some 16.2 million passenger cars, trucks, motorcycles and recreational vehicles (RVs) were recalled in the United States (13.5 million of which from the seven bestselling auto brands), representing an increase of 4.5 percent over the 15.5 million vehicles recalled the previous year.

A Chrysler não terá nenhuma novidade aparente para 2013, apenas uma possível versão mais simples do 300C que voltou ao país em 2012 com preços de R$179.900! O modelo pode ganhar uma versão mais simples, que perderia alguns "mimos" e teria preço de R$139.900 mudando o preço do modelo de R$169.900 (Teve redução de R$10.000 depois do lançamento!) para R$139.900, uma redução de R$30.000! Como eu sei disto? Basta ver o preço de uma versão mais simples da Town & Country que possui duas versões no mercado, onde a diferença entre elas é de R$35.000! O modelo assim poderá ter um preço menor para o 300C, e poder concorrer com o Toyota Camry, e as versões mais completas de Kia Cadenza e Hyundai Azera!

As far as the U.S. automotive industry is concerned, 2012 was a great year. Scratch that: it was a great year and the best since 2007, thanks to nearly 14.5 million light vehicle sales, representing a 13 per cent increase over 2011’s 12.7 million units.

Ford’s F-Series pickup truck was, once again, America’s best-selling vehicle with 645,316 deliveries.

The battle for the 2012 U.S. elections has spilled over the automobile industry after Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney told an Ohio crowd last week that Jeep is planning to move all of its production to China, while also airing an ad that says Obama "sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China. Mitt Romney will fight for every American job."

The problem is that the Chrysler Group is not considering to relocate production from the U.S. to China, but instead is weighing its options to open new plants in China to meet increasing demand in the country.
