~ Pegasus Stallion in Prismacolor ~

Oh my! It has been a VERY long time since I've last posted! But...even though it has been quiet on the 'Chronicles of Whimsy' site, we have not been idle.

During the summer it was decided that DH's blacksmith shop was beyond needing a facelift. So down came the old, and a new shop was designed and is being constructed.

We also took some time during last summer to venture out with art and craft, setting up a booth at three shows to display both ironwork and art. DH and I truly enjoy one on one interaction with customers as we display our newest creations.

I haven't been as productive with my art as in years past, but I have enjoyed creating a few new projects.

~ Pegasus Stallion in Prismacolor ~

"Pegasus Stallion in Prismacolor" is the the latest piece that has come off the drawing table. In ACEO
2 1/2" x 3 1/2" size. this illustration was done with both graphite and colored pencil on Bristol paper.

~ Unicorn Foal in Graphite and Prismacolor ~

"Unicorn Foal" was created a few months back. Not a piece that was in full color, but some was added to bring me back into color creating mode. This illustration was also created in ACEO size.

While working on the line drawing for "Pegasus Stallion in Prismacolor" I began work on 4 other designs. I hope to get back to the table again soon, but to pick which design to complete...hmmmmm.

Winners...and... Woodpeckers?

I wish to thank everyone for all of your wonderful
birthday wishes!

The day which has now come and gone was spent with grandchildren, grown children, and Mr. Whimsy. After I received a bundle of wonderful handmade cards from the grandchildren, the evening was spent feasting on delicious pizza, brownies baked by granddaughter, and board game playing! Truly a fun day!

~~~*~~~
Time past, the day finally arrived to pick a winner...and on that day the 3rd snowstorm of the week hit!
Shoveling, snowblowing, shoveling, snowblowing...
...when evening fell and the Whimsy clock struck 9:00 PM, Mr Whimsy was fast asleep!
aaackkkkk...!
We're late! We're late!
But...
the grand plumed hat has now been filled with folded name strips on blue parchment of those that entered...
names were stirred, bounced, and stirred again. As I held the hat well above mine and Mr. Whimsy's head to allow for no peeking, Mr. Whimsy slowly drew a name as I held my breath and closed my eyes. Asking if he should read the name to me, I quietly nodded yes.
The name Mr. Whimsy plucked
for the winner of the 5"x7" Peek A Boo print
is...
.....
Congratulations Linda!
But wait!!!
I had a wish that each one that had entered would be a winner!
So, to...
Sonja
Rayna
UUendy
Gail
Tammie Lee
and Gulf Coast Laser Graphics
I would love to send you a mini version of Peek A Boo,
a 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" ACEO print (which really is the size of the original it was created from)!
If you would love to find this little print in your mailbox, please email me the address you wish it shipped to at info@delarena.com
Again thank you all!!!
But wait you say?
What about the woodpeckers?
Today the giant 17" Pileated Woodpeckers are calling! A true sign of the beginning of Spring!
~ Pileated Nest ~
These parents were very smart birds! If you look carefully you will notice the nesting hole of last year was created perfectly under the tree growing fungus, providing a natural awning to help shed rain.
~ Pileated Woodpecker Chick Calling for Lunch ~
  Last year these amazing birds decided to nest in a tree at the edge of Whimsy lawn. Such a racket these little fledglings created as they waited for the parents to return again and again with tasty morsels. And what a joy it was for quiet to return to the neighborhood once they flew out in search of their own meals!
Where will the parents create their nest this year? Despite the noise from hungy chicks, these large prehistoric looking birds are a delight to watch!
Thank you for popping into the Chronicles of Whimsy!
~ I wish you all an amazing week ahead! ~
The Best Gift
~ Catch A Star ~
THE BEST GIFT
by
 Betty Werth
On Christmas Eve, a young boy with light in his eyes
Looked deep into Santa’s, to Santa’s surprise
And said as he sat on Santa’s broad knee,
"I want your secret. Tell it to me."
He leaned up and whispered in Santa’s good ear
"How do you do it, year after year?"
"I want to know how, as you travel about,
Giving gifts here and there, you never run out.
How is it, dear Santa, that in your pack of toys
You have plenty for all of the world’s girls and boys?
Stays so full, never empties, as you make your way
From rooftop to rooftop, to homes large and small,
From nation to nation, reaching them all?"
And Santa smiled kindly and said to the boy,
"Don’t ask me hard questions. Don’t you want a toy?"
But the child shook his head, and Santa could see
That he needed the answer. "Now listen to me,"
He told that small boy with the light in his eyes,
"My secret will make you sadder and wise.
"The truth is that my sack is magic inside
It holds millions of toys for my Christmas Eve ride.
But although I do visit each girl and each boy
I don’t always leave them a gaily wrapped toy.
Some homes are hungry, some homes are sad,
Some homes are desperate, some homes are bad.
Some homes are broken, and the children there grieve.
Those homes I visit, but what should I leave?
"My sleigh is filled with the happiest stuff,
But for homes where despair lives toys aren’t enough.
So I tiptoe in, kiss each girl and boy,
And I pray with them that they’ll be given the joy
Of the spirit of Christmas, the spirit that lives
In the heart of the dear child who gets not, but gives.
"If only God hears me and answers my prayer,
When I visit next year, what I will find there
Are homes filled with peace, and with giving, and love
And boys and girls gifted with light from above.
It’s a very hard task, my smart little brother,
To give toys to some, and to give prayers to others.
But the prayers are the best gifts, the best gifts indeed,
For God has a way of meeting each person’s need.
"That’s part of the answer. The rest, my dear youth,
Is that my sack is magic. And that is the truth.
In my sack I carry on Christmas Eve day
More love than a Santa could ever give away.
The sack never empties of love, or of joys
`Cause inside it are prayers, and hope. Not just toys.
The more that I give, the fuller it seems,
Because giving is my way of fulfilling dreams.
"And do you know something? You’ve got a sack, too.
It’s as magic as mine, and it’s inside of you.
It never gets empty, it’s full from the start.
It’s the center of light, and love. It’s your heart.
And if on this Christmas you want to help me,
Don’t be so concerned with the gifts `neath your tree.
Open that sack called your heart, and share
Your joy, your friendship, your wealth, your care."
The light in the small boy’s eyes was glowing.
"Thanks for your secret. I’ve got to be going."
"Wait, little boy," said Santa, "don’t go.
Will you share? Will you help? Will you use what you know?"
And just for a moment the small boy stood still,
Touched his heart with his small hand and whispered, "I will."
Whoa Sketchbook Project Now On Auction
The wonderful Whoa Sketchbook Project began its life by Jennifer MacNeill-Traylor of Gypsy Mare Studios and has traveled across the ocean and back to include amazing sketches and full color original art and prints from over 13 artists of the Whoa Horse Artists Group which began on Ebay and has now included Etsy (Whoa Horse Artists Group).
The sketchbook project was created to raise money to help a horse charity chosen by the artists. To view the auction which began August 10th and runs until August 20th, click here.
I would love to include in this post many of the images of the gorgeous art available in this one of a kind book, however I am not the best at grabbing outside images. You can however view most of them by clicking here (please be sure to click 'older posts' at the bottom of the page to view more art). I have included an image of the print 'Golden Pegasus, Winged Horse of Love and Hope' I have donated to be included in this sketchbook auction. This is the first time this print has been released larger than ACEO 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" size.
For any who love the equine, this beautiful one of a kind sketchbook containing over 50 pieces of art would be a treasure to own!
Reflection of Youth
~ Reflection of Youth ~
A new bookmark design has been added to those available in my Etsy shoppe DeLaRenaissance.
'Reflection of Youth', created in December of 2006, was inspired by my photo of a beautiful tiny Arab foal born with us many years ago. Her innocence and curiousity in the world around her were woven into the image of a baby Pegasus viewing herself for the very first time in a clear blue pool rimmed in flowers.
Even though the little chestnut Arab foal grew up and became a beautiful mare, she still lives in my art as an inquisitive little white foal with wings.
