Red Cups-Figurative

 Close ups

Graphite on paper...approx 6 1/5x5
This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Lin was the gracious host this week who provided a bunch of great photos.

I went with a couple on the beach. Intriguing to me thinking of all they've been through together.

I did another graphite mainly because of time constraints. This is approx. 6.5x5.5. I used colored pencil on the cups for surprise/shock value. Creates interest.

C&C welcome. Thanks for looking and commenting!

The Ride-Figurative

 Close ups

 Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Ai, from Thailand, was the gracious host this week who provided a bunch of colorful photos!

I settled on doing the rider. The toughest problem was trying to straighten out the shadows and legs as I eliminated the "horse whisperer" walking on the other side. Then, making up the background is always a challenge for me.

Here's the original photo

Bucket Full Of Treasure-Boy Figurative

 Close ups

Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Oty, from Greece, was the gracious host this week who provided a bunch of colorful photos!
I thought the beach scene with Christos was great! I wasn't overly cautious to get everything just right...I was after expressive looseness (actually, I was short of time tonight... ). I just kept adding notes of paint attempting to match the feel of the ref.

C&C welcome. Thanks for looking and commenting.

Hard At Work-Boy Figurative

 Close ups

Oil on 7x5 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Jess, in Florida, was the gracious host this week who provided a bunch of colorful photos!
This Jess's boy having fun at the beach.  I tried to go with the "less is more" theory and staying loose. This one just seemed to flow right along. Hope you like it.

The Good Life-Hawaii Landscape

 Close ups

Oil on 5x7 gessoed canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Maureen was the gracious hostess who supplied all the great reference photos. Thanks, Maureen !

Thought I'm throw in a rare (for me) landscape. I wouldn't mind hanging out here! It would be great to wake up here each morning! :)

This is oil on a 5x7 canvas panel. It's about 95% painting knife....That helped my speed somewhat.

C&C welcome. Thanks for having a look and commenting!!

Bathers-Figurative

 Close ups

Oil on 5x7 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to The Cloud Bather Challenge at DPW posted by that really fine artist, Carol Marine.
She stated that  the challenge is the foreshortened bodies (and the complete lack of sun).

I thought of a few titles that made me chuckle, but, thankfully, discretion won out. :)

This is by painting knife. I think I let a bit more sun in than I should have..but old habits are hard to break.

Splish Splash-Figurative

Close ups

LinkOil on 6x6 canvas panel.

This is my contribution to this week's WDE at Wet Canvas. Marianne was the hostess who graciously supplied the great reference photos!

I chose the two water nymphs because I thought it was a great opportunity to practice with my painting knife. I like the swirling color blends a knife can achieve for the water. The figures were done with brushes. I feel as if I'm beginning to learn a little about using the painting knife.

This was painted over a red ground. I like how it peeks through and automatically harmonizes and energizes a painting.

Thanks for looking and commenting. You folks keep me on the right track!

Through Him

Oil on 7x5 hardboard.
This is the same figure from Aug. 16 and 18. Actually it's Diane Keaton from the 1981 movie, "Reds". So this is the third in a series.

As with the Aug. 18th painting, I felt something spiritual about the look of this one. As if a communication were happening.

Unending

Close ups

Oil on 7x5 hardboard.

This is my contribution to WDE this week. Kathy was the hostess and supplied some great reference photos...Thanks, Kathy!

I knew I had to try this one from the moment I first saw it. Love...faith...positive vibes...all with the ocean as a backdrop signifying depth and timelessness. Unending.

Well, enough of that. This is oil on a 7x5 hardboard that was first coated with black gesso. I like how the black primer helps me to judge colors.

The Letter

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 archival canvas panel.

I simply thought this was a very intriguing image. It draws me in wondering who the letter may be from...A soldier...a parent...a goodbye note...or "congratulations, you have been pre-approved for"... .

Beach Comber

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 hardboard.

Here's a little shore bird from this week's WDE at Wet Canvas . The reference photo was supplied by Michelle.
I came up with at least three possible names for it...Chevalier Arlequin, Greater Yellow Legs, or Lesser Yellow Legs. ...Ahh...but what difference does it make in the end? I thought it was a great subject.

San Salvador, Bahamas

Close ups

Oil on 7x5 hardboard.

This was done for the WDE at Wet Canvas. The reference photo was graciously supplied by a lady who goes by Lisilk.... She actually lives there--lucky lady!

The photo showed this spot in all it's glorious Bahamian color. But just for the heck of it I embellished and invented and came up with this sundown scene. I'm not saying it's better than the original photo. But I can say that it now has the look of a painting and that some of my spirit lives in it.

Winter Daydreams

Close ups

Oil on 5x7 hardboard.

We have received new snow every day for what seems forever with cold temps...thus my title of "Winter Daydreams" for this painting of Marloes peninsula, Pembrokeshire coastline in Wales, UK.
This time I first toned the support with Cad. Orange acrylic to try for a warmer, brighter, look. I'm fairly pleased with the result.
The reference image was supplied by Lin for the WDE at Wet Canvas.
