RCMP - Rights?

Another column in the Globe today by Gary Mason, and an editorial. I think this is a photograph of Sgt. Ward - how many Sgt. Ward's can there be in Vancouver who are RCMP spokesmen? But I am not sure - I am trying to find out.
It looks to me like Sgt. Ward has dug himself a hole he won't soon get out of. Speaking to Gary Mason he describes the RCMP process to assist an officer who is being investigated following an in-custody death: The union (I didn't know they had a union, I thought they were not permitted to strike!?) helps him get a lawyer and the investigator then asks the lawyer for an official statement, which they can then cook up to match the investigator's results. Say what!?
Outrageous! This might explain why none of the 22 in-custody deaths in BC during the last four years has resulted in charges eh?
Check it out: Gary Mason: B.C. police must answer to public, and here is the Editorial: Globe: Where are the answers about Ian Bush's death?.

A kid, Ian Jeffrey Bush, gets picked up drunk in Houston B.C., and is taken to the cop-shop where the cameras are off when he gets shot in the head by RCMP Constable Paul Koester.
This story was a blip six months ago when it happened; then last week Gary Mason brought it up, and again this week. The operative phrase is a quote from RCMP Staff Sgt. Ward in Vancouver: "The public doesn't have a right to know anything." I don't think that Mr. Mason is either making this up or distorting it. We remember the pepper spray the Mounties used on demonstrators in Vancouver. We have seen their political strings pulled now and then. But, being Canadians, their minions occasionaly stray from the script and accidentaly tell the truth.
"The public doesn't have a right to know anything." - Is that so eh?
Globe, Saturday May 6: Gary Mason - RCMP silence.
Globe, Saturday April 29: Gary Mason - Sudden death.
Who knows what happened? The RCMP know - and they should definitely be telling us.
