Just Add Ink #42

Hi guys,

Things have been busy busy busy. Between working fulltime, job interviews and being assessed as foster carers I haven't had anytime to myself. I was fortunate enough to make this card the other week for a demo on distressing and brayering and it just happens to fit in with the JAI challenge this week. Here is the sketch for this week...

And here's the card I made

Stamp Set: Just Believe, French Script BG*
Ink: Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, So Saffron, Daffodil Delight, Tangerine Tango, Versa Mark
Cardstock: Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Whisper White
Accessories: Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Brayer, Post It Notes, Dimensionals, Early Espresso Satin Ribbon, Distressing Tool, Bone Folder

This one has to be a quick one today. If you have any questions on how it's made please email me at danielle.fender@gmail.com

Have a good one,

It's Challenge, It's Challenge Time!

If you know Flight of the Conchords at all you'll know what the title is all about!!! But apart from that I got to have a break from busyness today and got to participate in challenges! How exciting. I got a card made the other week for a challenge and just never got it on my blog due to being unwell. So I feel good to have two cards to share today.

The first is The Inkspirations Challenge. This week Makeesha whipped up a colour challenge for us. Here are the colours

I wasn't sure what to do with these. They are great colours but I they were a bit of a challenge, which I suppose is the whole point really. Here's what I came up with

Stamp Set: Fox and Friends
Ink: Basic Grey
Cardstock: Whisper White, Rose Red, So Saffron, So Saffron Prints DSP Stack
Accessories: 1/2" Circle Punch, Dimensionals, So Saffron Brads, Linen Thread

For this card I wanted to use ribbon but didn't have any that I was happy with so I made my own rouged up cardstock. I did this really rough to give it a bit of different dimension. All I did was give it a light scrunch and then fold it roughly until I was happy with it. I then added some linen thread around it for some extra texture.

The next challenge I participated in was Just Add Ink. This week the challenge was Just Add Sympathy. I don't usually like making sympathy cards just because of what they represent. But I do find them easier because you can use alot of different sets. I love doing brayering on my sympathy cards though. I finally got to use one of my new sets, Just Believe. Its really beautiful.

Stamp Set: Just Believe, Teeny Tiny Sentiments
Cardstock: Baja Breeze, Night of Navy, Whisper White
Ink: Versamark, Night of Navy, Baja Breeze, Marina Mist
Accessories: Heat Tool, Clear Embossing Powder, Brayer, Dimensionals, 1 1/4" circle, Post it notes

For this card I embossed the baja background in clear. And also embossed the large image in night of navy and clear embossing. I added the circle punched from a post it note and then brayered adding colours until I got my desired effect. I originally did a sunset and then got a lovely pumpkin pie finger print on the sun so thought it was a sign I should have went with night sky. I am happy with it either way and it was just nice to sit and relax for a few hrs while bubba was at day care.

Makeesha Inspiration Challenge #17

OMG! I'm so excited! Why? Well two reasons....
a. I got to participate in a Makeesha Challenge again
b. I got my entry in well before due

Makeesha Byl runs weekly challenges and I always really enjoy them because I'm not making a card because its someones birthday or because my mum asked me too or whatever it's creating for me and sometimes you really need to get back to that rather than whipping up cards for everyone else. This weeks challenge is an inspiration challenge and it looks like this...

I originally saw this picture and just fell in love with that beautiful tree on the side so I thought I'd use 'Lovely as a Tree' to depict the tree from the image. I had so many ideas running through my head and kept trying different things and from there my card just kept evolving into what was going to be a really simple card to something a bit more complex. But thats the best part about the inspiration challenges is to get inspired and to enjoy creating. So here is what I eventually came up with

Stamp Set: Lovely as a Tree, Sanded BG
Ink: Close to Cocoa, Baja Breeze, Creamy Caramel, Barely Banana, Apricot Appeal
Cardstock: Close to Cocoa, Baja Breeze, Creamy Caramel, Very Vanilla
Accessories: Chit Chat Rub On's, Choc Chip double stitched ribbon, Dimensionals, Mat Pack, Brayer, Sponge Daubers, Sponges, 3/4" circle punch, Post it notes, Creamy Caramel Marker, Stamp a ma jig

The card is thinner and longer than a normal card but sometimes its fun to experiment with the dimensions. To get the background I have used sponging and brayering. For further information or step by step details in how to achieve this effect please just leave a comment or email me at danielle.fender@gmail.com

Plum Daisy's

Hi All,

A few weeks ago it was my sister in laws birthday and I wanted to make her a card that she'd really like. She loves purple so I decided to use Perfect Plum and Pale Plum to make her card. My partner absolutely loves when I make cards using brayering so he wanted me to do a sunset type card using brayering. I thought using purple was a little out of my comfort zone but really like how the colours looked with a brayered background.

To get the background I stamped the Upsy Daisy Stamp Set in Black Stazon on Whisper White CS. I punched a circle out of a post it note on the sticky part and stuck it where I wanted my moon to go. Then brayered pale plum first until I got the colouring I wanted. I the layered over with Perfect Plum and blended the colour in to get the colours fading into each other. I then removed the punched circle and done! EASY! I was going to touch it up with some dazzling diamonds but my sister in law has a 2 year old and I just invisioned her playing with the card and removing all the glitter and spreading it all over the house! The glitter would really give it a pop though.

Stamp Set: Upsy Daisy, Sanded BG, Best Yet
Ink: Perfect Plum, Pale Plum, Black Stazon, VersaMark
Cardstock: Whisper White, Pale Plum, Perfect Plum, Basic Black
Accessories: 1 3/8" and 1 1/2" circle punch, Brayer, Post it notes, Dimensionals, Stamp a majig

Oh and before I go I have a photo to share of my beautiful daughter Riley. She is 6 months old today (doesn't time fly) and I feel totally blessed to have her in my life. Here she is in the bath cracking a huge smile! Doesn't she just melt your heart???
