And most importantly, you know that the world is waiting for what YOU and only YOU can create. Because YOU are an artist. • 32 pages.
  • Full color picture book.
  • Hardcover with dust jacket.
  • Book measures 8-3/4'' wide x 11-1/4'' high.
Meg Auchenbach has been writing and illustrating books since she was a little girl. If You Are an Artist is her debut picture book and is inspired by her former career as an elementary art teacher, where she watched children daydream, experiment, and create. She holds a B.F.A. in painting from Arcadia University, and an M.F.A. in Illustration/Visual Communication from Marywood University. She lives in Eastern Pennsylvania with her husband, two children, and their dog and cat.

My Take on the Book

This was a beautiful book that really is a story that needs to be told to our kids over and over again. Each one of our kids are artists in their own way and we do need to encourage this and this book does just that. I love the images throughout and the creative use of words and images that allow you to see the importance of creativity in our children's lives. I highly recommend this book to all!

 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book
This full-color art journal for moms and kids to color and draw together in is designed to be a sharing experience. Mom and child can write each other letters, draw what scares them, imagine what they want to be when they are grown up, color a scene using only one favorite color, whatever their imaginations lead them to!

Mom and Me: An Art Journal to Share is filled with fun hand-lettering and artwork from Bethany Robertson along with creative prompts from licensed art therapist Lacy Mucklow.

Mucklow offers up the best ways to communicate with a child through creating together; how to start an open conversation with your child; questions you can ask that will help generate thoughtful responses; and how to tailor the quality time so it's still fun and engaging for your child.

This art journal has 50 full-color spreads to color, fill in, draw, and more. Each spread has a creative prompt or another exercise for mom and child to fill out together.

My Take on the Book
Even though this is called Mom and Me, as a dad I used this with my daughter and we still had a ton of fun The book is filler with great prompts that get you to think, engage, react and more. The whole idea is allowing you to be create with your child, but also to engage with your child too. The book allows you to be open with feelings and really to delve into topics that might otherwise be harder to talk about. This is a type of book that, when completed, could be a book that you could go back to many years from now and cherish!

With a little imagination, simple items like coffee, sponges, bottle caps, aluminum foil, old newspaper, and even cotton swabs can be used to create a masterpiece! Clearly illustrated, step-by-step instructions include material lists, advice for preparing the workspace, and notes for when an adult's help is needed. Endless inspiration for aspiring young artists as well as teachers and parents! In Art Painting with Everyday Materials,, painting with milk, shaving cream, or coffee sounds bizarre, but these projects demonstrate just how much fun it can be. (Ages 5 and up)

The Zoom Loom Is Great For Tweens!

Zoom Loom

 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the Zoom Loom
Schact has taken a simple design and transformed it into an efficient and comfortable little loom. If you've ever woven on a pin loom, you'll love our new and improved model. Small and compact, the Zoom Loom is easy to take with you. Weave anywhere, any time.

Zoom Loom

  • The sloping interior edge guides your weaving needle.
  • Graceful extended sides are easy to hold.
  • Molded-in instructions on the front and back are always there when you need them.
  • A handy slot holds the starting yarn without knotting.
  • Made in Boulder, Colorado!

Zoom Loom

The Zoom Loom comes in an attractive carrying case. A 6" weaving needle and a 3" yarn needle are included, as well as a full-color instruction book with three projects. An instructional video is available

My Take on the Zoom Loom
This kit is for those within the ages of 10-100. It is a 4 by 4 sturdy plastic hand held loom, with a 6 inch weaving needle and a 3 inch sewing needle. The kit included directions with illustrations and step by step written directions. The booklet of directions included three patterns: a scarf, a placemat, and a reader case.

Before I used it with my nine year old, I used the directions and yarn I had at home, to weave the loom. The illustrations were essential to understand the written directions. As I wove I found that if I did not use a finger to hold down the yarn each time I made a curve, then the yarn would slip. This was not in the directions but something to be aware of as you wrap the loom.

My daughter then began the weaving. Because we used two different colors of yarn she was able to see if she made an error in her weaving pattern. She finished one square easily.

So in preparing the loom again for weaving a second square, I allowed her to look at the illustrations and we went through the step by step directions together.

She was able to accomplish this with a little help.

I feel, because she has learned other crafts that the loom and directions were maybe easier for her to handle.

This is a great activity to take on a trip as it is easy to carry and the materials are simple. I think it would make a nice gift for someone who enjoys crafts.

Moulin Roty Shadow Puppets Let Imagination Soar

Moulin Roty Shadow Puppets

 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

As a father i am always looking for things that will promote imagination and creativity. This especially occurs at bedtime when we make up stories, and simply have fun winding down the day. Bring in these Nightime Shadow Puppets from Moulin Roty.

I was able to try out the two sets that you see in the pictures here and I have to first say that I was so impressed with the overall quality of these. As a past puppeteer I can completely appreciate fine quality when it comes to puppets and this definitely provided that.

On top of this though the Shadow Puppets were so much fun and the company put so much detail into them,

The two sets I was able to test drive were the Castles and Dinosaurs sets. What was fun about the sets was that with the right lighting you could create big shadows and with your imagination you could create a story that would bring a smile to your childs' face.

Moulin Roty Shadow Puppets

My daughters particularly liked the Castles set, and seemed to love having the Dragon being the protagonist in all of their stories.

On top of this all of the sets are reasonably priced in my opinion. The Paris Shadows ($21) set shows the Eiffel Tower, airplane, moon and sleepwalker. The 9-piece Castle Shadows ($18.50) include a dragon, a fairy, royalty and a witch! If dinos are more your style, the Dinosaur Shadows ($18.50) pack of 10 puppets feature a stegosaurus, brachiosaurus and more prehistoric shapes.

In the end these puppets are wonderfully made and truly sparked the creative juices in myself and in my girls. I highly recommend this to all!
