The Dead Rise in Warhammer Quest 95!

Welcome back Adventurers,

Its been a while since I last posted, but had an interesting few months with lots of stuff going on around the home. But earlier this week, I gave GW more money for some products. When Old World got announced, I was hoping for  the older models to come out so I could add them to quest. I like the look and feel of the models from that time frame. So after watching to see what armies would be out, I took the hook and picked up this box set of 36 old style skeletons.

Lot more expensive then I remember!

Looks and smells like 1999 in this box! LOL

So I wanted to expand to add to my Undead for Quest for some time, with this box, I was able to build 6 archers, 6 spearman & 6 hand weapon for encounters. I still had some shields from back in the day and thats all I did to them.

Archers

Hand Weapons

Spearmen
So after a walk down memory lane, I now have more then enough models for quest. I also have left overs to do some for Mordheim and Deth Wizards as well.

Now to get painting again.

Getting a little Chaotic around here!

 So,

While surfing the old waves of the Internet I came across these STL files from a sculptor named Fabelzel, he had Evil Dwarfs and Eastern Goblins, so I had a buddy grab the files and print off a few for some Warhammer Quest 95. These are awesome models and will work perfectly for Chaos Dwarves and Hobgoblins. The best part was that these files were free!!! And man, are these some nice sculpts too, very glad I found them as they have that old school GW vibe to them.

The Chaos Dwarves all together.

Hobgoblin Boss

Once again, what great models, he also has some Musicians and Banner bears and another sculptor did a few wolf riding Hobgoblins as well. Very pleased with these models, I highly recommend them, just wish he would do more models.

25+ Year project complete!

So, Some followers may know, I have been working on completely painting up my original Warhammer Quest for years. I bought the original game back 1996, and started playing after I got it. It has been played many times throughout the years, with some painting happening every once in a while. My son's first tabletop minis game was Quest, in fact we told him once your able to read, you can play, he quickly learned how to read.

Well about 5 or 6 years ago, my brother came over to play (as he did years ago) and made the comment, Dude, you still have not finished painting this stuff???? He was right, with all the armies and projects, I had not finished this iconic game. That's all that it took to get me back to slowly painting it up again. Earlier this year I finished up the Skaven, all that I had left were the goblins. So this past week, I dove into getting the gobos painted up.

24 Goblin spears
Now the original game came with models in groups of 6, so there were 6 gobos with spear and 6 gobos with bow. Over the years I acquired another almost complete copy of the game and a few models along the way, hence there are more then usual  here.

A few gobo bows
As I said above , I was able to track down a few older models, I had to get them to add them to the game, here are a few really old Gobos.

Some really old gobos

Now, that core is done, I have a few other models that I tracked down that will get painted up, but I can finally say Quest is painted! Now, the game will be getting more playtime as a buddy and I want to document a few games, sort of write an adventuring short story.

As for the next project, time to take a trip back to 1999 with a little Dammed city, Mordheim Project.

Something stirs....

Well,

If you were wondering where I was, it seems that the seasonal flu bug hit me like a ton of bricks and I have been down and out for about a month now. But before I got hit with the bug, I had found this little gem and wanted to grab it for some games of Warhammer Quest.

Ove the last few days I got to paint this model, which painted up very nicely and looks good on the table. My only issue is how he is posed, its hard to get a good picture of him due to the angle of the sword, but overall a nice new collection for some Warhammer Quest! Enjoy!

Welcome to Orctober!

 So,

My buddy Mike over at the Dagreenskins blog is a huge orc fan, he loves the Green Skins. Well he does a live stream every Saturday Morning (Whats Up with Mike and Jeff) and they decided that in October that they would work on Orc models calling it Dagreenskins Orctober Fest. Well a bunch of us decided to join along and paint up at least one Orc as well.

So I dug through my models and found this limited edition Warhammer Online model that my brother gave me and decided to paint him up. The plan was to work on him all month, but once I got going, I could not stop and finished up the model in a few days. here is the progression of the model

Primed model, switched out round base so I can use with my Warhammer Quest games. Also added new top knot and skull on goblins staff as they broke off.

Primed up model on new base!

Drybrushed to see the details, there is a lot on there

base painted and washed, waiting for it to dry.

Almost there, highlights to do.

Completed model!

I really like how the model turned out and am happy to add him to my collection for Warhammer Quest.

A long time in painting...

Well,

Came out in 1995
This may not have been the oldest items waiting to get painted, but was definitely took some time. As some know, I was and still am a avid player of the old school Warhammer Quest game. I have pretty much everything you could purchase for the game except the White Dwafs,Journal magazines and Deathblow magazines. I was lucky enough to get the Catacombs of Terror from a buddy a few years ago but it was all the paper products minus the miniatures. A few years ago I was finally able to track down the complete set of miniatures and had high hopes to get them painted.

So since I am stuck at home, I decided to start painting these guys over the weekend. As I posted before in the past about two years ago my brother threw down the challenge to get all of my Warhammer Quest stuff painted, so besides getting old stuff done, this also fits the bill of my brothers challenge. So first up was the main bad guy, the Dread King himself on his throne.

Dread King
I added a old GW metal floor tile to the model but its pretty stock and straight forward. As much as I dug the old box art I always thought the red yellow scheme felt a bit cartoonish to me, so went with greens for the colors and more metal feel for the throne, I think it works well together. The words on the page of the book was phoned in, I cheated and use Permanent fine tip markers before I washed them. I tried paining them on but my paint was drying to fast on the brush and was not looking right.

Necromancer and assistant with Dread King
I then moved onto the Necromancer and "Igor" assistant to paint. You may notice that the Necromancer is mounted on a round base, I had gotten him before the rest of the miniatures and I was going to use him for Frostgrave as a Necromancer Wizard. So since I am not doing Frostgrave right now, and I already painted up a Necromancer Wizard so I will be putting a square base on him in the next day or so.

Group Shot with Tomb Guard Models
Next up were the three Tomb Guard models, these guys were pretty easy to paint and I have painted them before when I used to have an Undead Army for Fantasy Battle many many moons ago. All in all very happy to have these figures completed, the sad part is they will go into the box until the next game.

One last project that I did Tuesday was repainting my game table top. I usually do it every few years but have gotten out of the practice of doing it. It was looking pretty beat up and while cleaning my desk area I found the pint of paint I have used in the past. Good thing too as the paint lid had almost rusted closed and the paint was about to harden up. SO I cleared off the table, patched some of the scratchs my cats had put into the table and busted out the roller and repainted it.

Fresh coat of paint on the table.
And yes that blue paint job on the walls is a camo style that I did for my son years ago before I took over the room. You may also see the Model railroad in the picture, which is getting some love as well, but that will be for another update.

So stay safe, health and more importantly sane!

Oh Days of Old...

So,

With my brother moving out to Arizona, we have had a resurgence of Warhammer Quest. You see back in the day, we used to play the crap out of this game, our wives also enjoyed exploring the long lost dungeons and we all had characters that were starting to get pretty far advanced in levels.

But all good things pass, my brother and his wife moved out to Georgia, I moved out to Arizona and pretty much the game went up onto the shelf. Yes I did bring it down for a short while and actually ran a few games for a group of folks at my local store. But I was on to other games and slowly Quest slipped into the past.

During this long slumber, I actually acquired another almost complete set of the game from a friend that only really wanted a few of the miniatures. This second copy went up onto the shelf with my copy and there it sat.

Then about 6 months ago, my brother gave me the news that he was relocating to Yuma AZ, (I am in Phoenix) and he came out to stay for a weekend. While out he suggested we bust out Quest again. Now my good friend DrunkenSamurai mentioned he would be interested in trying out the game. So when my brother made the trip out, Quest came down off the shelf and hit the table again.

So with that, I set up a game night, which included my wife, my son (who loved watching us play back in the day), Drunken and his wife as well as my brother. I choose the DM role, flipping cards and running the monsters. A great time was had by all. We all agreed that we would retain the characters for the next time we all got together.

Well a few weeks pasted and my brother made another trip to the valley, in which prompted another night of Quest! Fun was had by all, except my wife, who's Wardancer set off a trap and fell into a pit, which wouldn't be so bad, but the group forgot to bring a rope and the Wizard did not have a levitate spell, so her character was trapped for eternity in the pit! So is the Warhammer Quest Gods, they are brutal at times.

Then last weekend I was visiting a friend in Kansas and he just happened to have the last piece of the Warhammer Quest puzzle that I needed, the Catacombs of Terror models! I had the campaign pack, but no models. So with an agreement to paint for him, I secured the models.

Then just today, my brother informed me that he would be back up in Phoenix on the 20th, and his game of choice, you got it, Warhammer Quest! So it looks like I will be painting up a bunch more models for this game night.

Which got me thinking, I need to start putting more paint on these classic models, I also need to come up with a better way to store said models. Right now they are just thrown into a box, no rhyme or reason, painted with unpainted. So I think I am going to try to paint up at least one new (old) model a week. I will try to get more done, but at least one a week is doable.

So it looks like Quest is back on the table, my family and friends are enjoying it and so am I. In fact I think I will take up more of a DM roll and actually design adventures instead of using the cards, that was always my goal, why not get started now on it!

So stay tuned for more Warhammer Quest posts folks...
