Omar's 4th Birthday Cupcakes

This batch was different  then  other orders I received before. Late that afternoon, Omar's mom emailed me and asked if I can do her son's birthday cupcakes for the next day. I hesitated at first, I usually plan every step of what I'm about to do days before the actual pick-up date.

After mixing and adding different colors and shades I ended up with a  navy and a deep yellow. Together, they had a very space-like theme, which I loved. The disco dust & gold dragees on top made it seem like it's a galaxy on a cupcake.

Miguel's Cupcakes

Baby Miguel turned a year old on the 26th of March. His mom; a friend of mine, threw him a circus themed birthday party. She asked me to focus on three colors; red, blue, and yellow. The figures were a little tricky but pretty fun to do. Me and my sister played around with it and created the tents, clowns, and circus balls. It felt a lot like playing with play dough!

I tried a new technique and plastic wrapped all three colors of the icing individually, cut the tip, and then put them in the icing bag and used the grass tip. It gave it a great affect on the the larger cupcakes with Miguel's name.  All in all, they were very happy with the results.

The mom sent me a message the next day saying "We got so many complements on the cupcakes. The kids went crazy over them and the adults became kids all over again...you are the best!"

Omar's 5th Birthday Cupcakes

First of all, I absolutely love the colors green and blue together. They just look amazing next to one another. This order was different then anything I've done before. As you have probably already noticed, I'm usually focused on patterns and texture.

I was asked to do little shapes to stick on top of the cupcakes. I must admit, at first I wasn't too sure about it since I haven't practiced things like that before, but there's a first time for everything so I thought I should give it a try. I played around with gum paste and tried to come up with simple yet cute shapes and figures.  I liked it, it was fun, creative, and another thing I learned and will use in future creations.
