1932 ~ 2014
Ricks Merrill Gale I, 82, of Boise, died October 11, 2014 of natural causes. He was born August 28, 1932 in Tetonia, Idaho to Arthur and Florence Gale. Ricks was the youngest of ten children and was raised in the LDS church. At an early age, the family moved to Homedale and then to Adrian, Oregon where he graduated from high school in 1951 and worked on the family farm. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 until 1957. Upon his return, he worked for Goodman Oil Company.
He married Maxine Smith from Parma, Idaho on September 3, 1960. They made their home in Boise where he worked for Electric Service Company until his retirement in 1995. He was a proud member of IBEW Local 291 from January 1961 until his death.
For many years, Ricks served as the neighborhood "go to guy" for the irrigation water, electrical and automobile problems, and for a social call in the breeze way hangout. After his retirement, he spent time managing his rentals, taking the kids from Maxine's day care to school, helping his youngest son with his landscaping business, visiting neighbors, and loving his cats--Oreo and Amber.
Even though he preferred staying home, he traveled to Spain and Morocco to see one of his daughters. He rode a Camel, learned a lot about poverty, and had a good time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and four brothers. He is survived by his brother, Jessie Gale of Kennewick, WA; wife Maxine; his two sons and their spouses: Ricks (Butch) and Kathy Gale of Boise; Howie and Melissa Gale of Meridian; his three daughters and their spouses: Vicki and Jack Siemsen of Payette; Jacki and Roger Worthy of Payette; and Conni and Scott Poulson of Boise. He left 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life is planned for Monday, October 20 at 2:00 pm at Cloverdale Funeral Home in Boise. Casual dress. Please make a donation to Idaho Humane Society, Attn: Shelter, 4775 W Dorman St., Boise, ID 83705 in the name of Oreo in lieu of flowers.
