Faux Oil-rubbed Bronze!

I had been shopping for a quatrefoil mirror to put in my entry hall. I'm quite obsessed with that shape, and it's very trendy right now. I found one with a black frame at Hobby Lobby, and at half off, I could feel good about my purchase. Which I did, until I saw one I liked even better at Kohl's. I'm sure this has happened to you.

Priced much higher, the one at Kohl's had a beautiful oil-rubbed bronze finish. I got a good look at it, and headed out to find some spray paint. I'll walk you through what I did.

Here is the original finish. Black, shiny and (gasp!) plastic.

Here is what you need!

First step is covering up the mirror! I used left over packing paper.

Here is the miracle in a can!

But, this is what made it even better!

After the spraying is done and the paint dries (it only takes an hour), I put paint in one section of my tray, and filled the center with water. Load a small amount of paint on the sponge brush, and dilute with water. You can test it out on some paper towel. The trick is to go along each edge (and only the edge), adding a small line of paint. Have a paper towel ready to wipe off any areas that get too much paint. You are really looking for a subtle effect.

It helps to stand back every once in awhile. I hope you can see in this photo, the tiny lines of copper along the outside and inside.

You will wind up with a beautiful aged effect!

The after photo was taken under bright light, so is looking lighter than it actually is.

And here it is--gracing my entry hall! I couldn't believe how easy this was!

I apologize for the poor quality of the photos. I took them with my iPad.

All the Leaves are Brown...

This is my entry to the White Challenge--using only white dishes and one other color for stemware, linens, etc. I immediately knew I wanted to use brown. Mr. Wonderful will tell you I'm a little obsessed with brown right now. I find it very calming...and well, earthy! I thought the dark wood of my kitchen table would work best, so this is my first tablescape in my new kitchen. I am so anxious to get those white walls painted!

I hope you enjoy!

I fell in love with these bowls from Ross!

I used this runner to choose the different shades of brown I would use.

I filled each bowl with coffee beans before placing a painted pumpkin in each one.

Eddie relaxes on the half wall between the kitchen and family room. He thinks it was placed there for him! I only included him because he is keeping with the color scheme.

The dinner plates and glasses came from a thrift store.

Thank you for visiting!

I thought you might like to see my new home!

Crazy for Purple!

If I won a five minute shopping spree at Michael's, I would head right to the floral department and fill my arms with purple flowers. From the tiniest violet to the largest hydrangeas, I LOVE purple flowers. So, I am just "plum" happy to present this week's tablescape!

I hope you enjoy!

This tablescape started with the fabric. Intending to use it for napkins, I made a last minute decision to make placemats instead!

The obligatory bird.

The white on white dishes allow the purple to steal the scene!

Each place setting gets it's own blossom!

Thanks for visiting!

But, before you go, I have an announcement!

My sister and I will be doing another Sister Act! This time we will be using the same animal print placemats. If you didn't catch Sister Act I, you can see mine here:

To see my sister's, you will have to visit her blog! Be sure to come back for a visit May 3rd to see how two sisters create tablescapes around the same item!

Calm Seas Ahead!

I love every shade of blue, from sky blue to navy. The inspiration for this week's tablescape is a set of aqua goblets. As I was putting it together, I decided that this shade of blue is one of my favorites! I've always said that if Colorado had an ocean, it would be the most perfect place on earth.

Hope you enjoy!

When I bought these glasses at a flea market, I had nothing to go with them. But, at $5 for four of them, it was just too good a deal to pass up!

My sister gave me the chargers for Christmas (thanks, Robin!) and the small plates came from TJ Maxx. The square bowls came from Big Lots.

With each tablescape I try to find something for the wall which will complement it. The best I could do was this metal piece with it's verdigris finish. It has a nautical look, doesn't it?

I did buy the fabric for these napkins with this tablescape in mind. It allowed me to use green as an accent color.

I bought these mercury glass candles at a thrift store for $1 each. I bought three gold and three silver. For this table, I placed two of them on top of silver candlesticks for some extra height. Part of the fun of these tablescapes is that you can do whatever you want!

I've been asked what these placemats from Z Galleries are made of. They are woven from a metallic vinyl. I just love them. So does my cat, Eddie, who tried to pull one out from under my stack of dishes!

Thank you for stopping by!
