This is typical of me.
August is my very favorite month of the year and always has been since I was a little girl. I understand it isn't polite to chose favorites however I cannot help myself. You see I am an August born child/woman. When I was growing up my birthday was never special because there was no school in August so no classroom party for me with cupcakes like the other kids. I did get to celebrate my birthday in the mountains at our family cabin. That was my very favorite place to be. We sisters got to go for walks and play all day in the meadow and the stream. We climbed a "giant" boulder and slid down until our shorts had no fabric covering our bottoms. We walked to the little store and bought nickel candy and ate it whenever we wanted. We spent hours in the local library reading and loving books. I used to practice the fancy "symbols" in the Japanese alphabet...of which I know nothing about. I merely loved copying those beautiful strokes. We played Scrabble in the evenings with our mom. She always won so at night I would sneak the dictionary from the bookshelves and read it in my feather bed with a flashlight so I could play better. We went for nature hikes and walked everywhere. Back in those days there was very little fear of letting kids be kids and free to play outdoors with no supervision. Life was simpler back then.
Another reason August is my favorite month is that my one and only daughter was born just 20 days before my birthday. So we celebrate our month together. She is a Leo and I am a Virgo but that doesn't keep us apart. :o)
August is also my favorite because it is Summer and I love Summer! The heat doesn't bother me and it helps that I live in the foothills where it is at least 10 degrees cooler than other places. Of course don't ask me about winter and snow which I detest. When I was younger August also meant going to the fair which I used to love doing. Our family was big on fairs and traveled to many up and down the state. My mother would make all of us matching gingham dresses and a shirt for dad. She said that way if one of us girls got lost people would at least know to match us up with the rest of the family wearing gingham. Too funny!
August was also the last freedom before going back to school for another year. Not my favorite thing growing up. I did always like getting new crayons and to this day I treat myself to a new box of Crayola crayons each year. Something about the smell and feel of a brand new crayon. I also just bought new yellow pencils and some new glue sticks. Some habits are hard to break and why should I when I use these supplies every day.
If you have a favorite month which one is it and why?
I think it is time for me to go and eat some ice cream for you see it is still my favorite food even at this point in my life.
Awesome August Summer Smiles to all...

Creative Cue...
If you are looking for a weekly (or sporadic if you choose) creative challenge then I suggest you
check out this wonderful blog: http://threecreativestudios.com/blog/category/creative-cue/
Every Sunday they post a random word and then you can elect to participate or not. You can use any artistic medium you like to then interpret that week's cue word.
So I thought it might be fun. I began with a small 7" x 8" spiral scrapbook I had on the shelf. As you can see I decorated it.
Week one the word was EAST. Hmmm...one of many ideas came to my mind. However I decided that the sunrise in the East was the most promising for me as I do not prefer the dreary of Winter. So Sunrise to represent East it was.
Week two the word was HEEL. Well...I immediately thought of the high heel of a very sexy shoe only to see that Sue Bleiweiss http://suebleiweiss.com/blog of Three Creative Studios posted that exact thought and quite well I might say. I thought about heel for several days and this little puppy was the next best thing to a sexy high heel shoe.
Week three already and the word is TRACK. So...immediately I had to think of my good old Wilson Jones Columnar Pads that I used for so many years in my working days...Yes, before and during computers in the work place...to keep track of so many accounting and business functions.

Goodbye summer...
Gosh this past summer went by very quickly. Here it is September already and Labor Day holiday weekend is over now. Lots of fun and visiting with friends and celebrating has been done. Unfortunately no creative projects have progressed. My Saucy Chick partner Lorraine did give me a huge box of Crayola crayons...96 and a sharpner, some new glitter glue pens in both primary and pastel colors, and a new set of twister Crayola crayons. How did she know I love new crayons since she had purchased them for my birthday long before I posted on this blog. I am just so very lucky!
Now...what to do with crayons...any ideas out there? I do love to color with them but what else could I be doing? Yes years ago we shaved the crayons onto wax paper, ironed them to a melt stage and then pressed paper onto the melted forms to create beautiful one-of-a-kind papers that once dried were nice to craft with. But I think there must be some new innovative ideas that we Saucy Chicks would love to try. Please post your ideas on the comment section.
May each of you begin your September with a goal in mind and may you achieve that goal as you go forth.
I do feel fall in the air and the trees, especially the cedars, are really raining down the debris.

Keep trying...
Okay creative souls out in blogland. I shall aproach this blog with the attitude that this is fun and easy even after a very long day of frustrating W2 work which is not fun nor easy. I am feeling creative but too tired to actually produce anything. Please understand only one of us Saucy Chicks is writing this blog tonight. I did purchase my brand new 24 box of Crayola crayons this past week. I also bought some new butterfly themed fabric. My mind is thinking creative but my body is not reacting to the creative juices that are trying to flow through my veins. I have heard that it is not productive to force creativity but to just let it find it's own way. Well, I am waiting...
I just love the smell of brand new Crayola crayons. Some day I will buy myself the biggest box that is made. Not that I ever really use my crayons but I do love to have them in my studio. I also love colored pencils and have lots of them in all sorts of brands, choices of styles and colors. It seems that my studio is very well stocked. I am always buying supplies and telling my husband I need them for when I retire. He says retire now and use my stuff. Now that would be just fine except that I do feel the need to work and provide benefits since I never planned ahead when I was much younger.
Thank you blog readers for letting me put this out there and therefore making myself aware of the invalid reasons why I am not spending time in the studio being creative. I do have lots of ideas to work on...
