Practicing the Christmas Lights

I had a sharp little 5km run before my online spin class last night - a mistake, as usual - and as I went through the town centre I found they were putting the Christmas lights up there and testing them out.

You've seen it before on here I'm sure, but I make no apology. It's very pretty and glittery, and there's not very much of that to be found at the moment.

The Lights go on, Night and Day

Life goes on, the Christmas lights go on on. It comes around every year, the day when the market square is filled with stalls and music and stands selling luminous spinning thingies, and every year I go and have a look around and miss the fireworks.

Well this year I didn't, as in my new flat all I had to do was go out onto the street and watch the various fusillades being launched into the sky and filling the sky with orangey smog and the smell of sulfur.

It was actually quite impressive, wasteful though the virtuous side of my brain thinks fireworks to be, and the whole day seems to have been very successful judging by the crowds.

I'm starting to try and do a bit more running again after the last few weeks, managed a 32 minute 5km yesterday which is hardly earth shattering but still felt decent, and every night I jump on the exercise bike while watching youtube videos.

I'm not sure what else to do at the moment.

Lights, Moon and Lights

We've had some very wild days the last few days, my to and fro bicycle commutes have been rather interesting. I have been incredibly busy at work  preparing our Christmas events.

We now have Christmas lights on in town and I have been photographing them  in relation to the moon and things.

Let there be More Light

Lights for a certain time of the year are appearing in town, a time I  tend not to acknowledge in my personal life until December 1st, when I put that particular Waitresses song on.

However, of  course towns must make preparations, and so they are doing here. The lights shouldn't actually be  on that, but they have to test them. This has the added benefit of driving the violent gobby kids out of town centre.

They look fabulous! They always do.

The Lights go on, the Temperatures go Down

Newark's Christmas lights went on on Sunday; I was just on a pretty decent long run, 10.5km in when I turned into town to see what was going on, and found myself running into a solid jam of people packing out the market place listening to One Direction cover acts on the stage, while hogs were roasted, porks were pulled, and funny spinny lighty-up things were sold to excited children.

I've never seen the town so busy for such an event, and although this was pleasing indeed, it wasn't my scene at all. A lot of tat and fairground rides, and far far too many people. But hey it gives me colour to show you! And that can't be bad.

Since then, the temperature has been dropping until the last two nights it hit about -6 and -7, which has made my morning cycles to work utter agony; I have Raynaud's syndrome and my left hand in particular has been telling me how cold it has been by means of the scale of agony.

"Bullshit was that -1" I announced yesterday, referring to the weather forecast, and my left hand was right.
