Hot Star Large Fried Chicken @ Subang Jaya

During my trip over to Taiwan two years back, I was told that their fried chicken over there are famous. Famous their size at least. There are a few different outlets over there but the one that stand out would be Hot Star. Now, they have finally came to our shore. The first outlet is this over at Subang Jaya, SS15. It's located below Chatime (previously Tien Pin Ge Ge). It's the same row as Starbucks and Snowflakes (opposite Asia Cafe). You can't really miss it since this has got to be one of the most crowded street over at SS15.

I was thinking to myself, what else do they sell in here? They can't just be selling fried chicken right? So here's their menu. They have their famous large fried chicken, crispy drumlet & wing combo, tempura, sweet and sour plum potato and crispy fries. You can either make a combo out of it or order ala-carte which I did. Since I just wanted to try out their large fried chicken.

It's operating like a fast food chain restaurant where you queue up to make your order.

After ordering, they will only prepare to fry the chicken. So it's prepare only after there's an order which means that all their fried chicken are made fresh. The set back would be the waiting time I guess. I had ordered extra spicy and the guy was happily to add in edition chili powder for me.

And here is the place where you collect your food. It took them around 5 minutes (give or take) to prepare my chicken. Take note, I was the first in line, so I guess it's bearable if you are not in a rush.

You have 4 level of spiciness to choose from. As usual, I ordered EXTRA SPICY! Yummy!!

Just to show how long is the chicken. I put side by side with my Grande size SB mug. Actually it's around the size of Shih Lin's XXL fried chicken.

This is how the fried chicken look like with extra spicy chili powder. I noticed that they only applied the powder on one side of the chicken only and not both.

The chicken was smooth and tender. Not as much starch as I would imagine if you compared it with Shih Lin's XXL fried chicken. The meat is thicker I believe too over here. Spicy? Not really for me, but don't be bold if you're not into spicy food like me. The portion was quite large frankly speaking. It was my lunch and I can't even finish it at one go.

The fried chicken was well known not only for it's taste but also it's size too. It's measuring at 30cm in length. That is really long for a fried chicken if I would say so myself.

The location is hard to find parking during the weekdays, but I went during the weekends so it's more easier to get a space. The restaurant is air-condition so it's comfortable for you if you thought about dining in here. The place is brightly lit up and nicely decorated. Give this place a try if you are around the area and fancy some large fried chicken. How was is compared to the one over at Taipei? Can't really tell the difference I guess. But it's best having it on a nice cold day.

Pommes Frites @ Sunway Pyramid

Was walking around Asia Avenue looking for a place to have some light snack when we come across this place. It's called Pommes Frites. The place served mostly fries and mussels as their main. What differs their fries from the one we had at the other places? Well for one, they use fresh premium bintje potatoes directly imported in from Belgium.

Saw the banner that they are having this promotion on their fries and thought of giving it a try. I had asked for the recommendation and the guy was really nice to ask what is my taste preference rather then just recommend me their best seller. I had asked for salty plus spicy and he had recommended this. It's their fries with Cheddar Cheese dipping. It's basically cream sauce mixed with cheddar cheese and spices. (RM5/set)

This is the second recommendation from them which is called Samurai. It's sambal oelek, egg yolks, olive oil and seasoning mixed together. All their dipping are home made, so you can't find it outside. The dipping was really nice and you can really taste a tit of spice and also olive in it. Sadly it was so little. (RM5/set)

I heard that their potatoes are cooked twice with the second time cooking provides a golden color and makes the fries deliciously crisp. Other than the two dipping which I had ordered, they have more than 10 more dipping in store. The fries to me isn't that much different but maybe the texture and the fullness of the fries which differentiate the American to theirs. Well it's definitely a nice place to hang out and have some light snacks if you're into fries. (Rating: 3.5 out of 5.0)

BBQ Chicken

This whole place started in September 1995 and now it has grown to be the No.1 franchise brand in Korea. The place understand the importance and realizes obligation of providing customers with not just delicious meal but also healthy meal too. The place created Olive Luxury Chicken and was the first to use only 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil imported from Spain.
The place is located at the Ground floor of 1Utama new wing. The place served burgers & breads, olive, barbeque, beef and fish. I had lunch over with some of my friends one find afternoon. So we had opted for the set lunch which consists of the a main dish, soup, drink and single scoop of ice cream.
So here is the mushroom soup as the appetizer. Not bad as there's a lot of tiny sliced mushroom in the soup. Typical mushroom soup straight from the can I assume.
I had ordered their Jerk BBQ Chicken. Which was chef recommendation. It's whole chicken leg cooked over charcoal fire with no additional oil used then spread with authentic korean style barbeque sauce made of more than 20 natural seasonings and red pepper grain giving it a little tinge of spiciness. It comes complete with golden fries and coleslaw. This might be the best dish of the three we ate that day. But sadly it was too small for me. (RM14.50)
This is the Fish Cutlet set. Which typically golden fried fillet of fish complete with golden fries and coleslaw. Sadly, my friend told me that the fish was rotten. And I pray she doesn't have a bad stomach the next day after eating this. (RM12.90)
Last but not least, Hot Hot Drum which is also one of the chef's recommendation. Which claimed to be extra spicy. It's hot red pepper grain and paste sauce generously spread over crispy and juicy chicken. Complete with golden fries and coleslaw. This is not bad and it's not to say that spicy but just alright (RM13.70).

So what do I think of the place? Might consider to go back but becareful what I would order the next time. It's still new and people need time to know bout this place. They have already a few branches in Taipan and also Desa Park City and Sri Hartamas to name a few. (Rating: 3.5 out of 5.0)

Ccozi & Friends - Sunway Pyramid

This place is located opposite Shih Ling inside Asia Avenue. So it isn't that hard to locate but if you really want to know it's exact location, it's Lot 127, F1 Asia Avenue. The place is called Ccozi & Friends. They served Korean streets food which is not bad from the pictures I saw in their menu. So I thought why not give it a try. We ordered one of their famous DDOCK BOK KI & Original Chicken Fried combo. Ddock Bok Ki simply means sliced rice cake. This is one of their famous street delicacy according to CP. So it's a must try. According to LP the dish was quite spicy. Don't really think but maybe it's just me. The fried chicken is very crunchy although it's covered with lots of their special sauce. (RM9.50)
Next LP ordered their Old-Time Korean Student Lunch Box. I think she's misses the time her mom made of this for her. lol~! Anyway it consists of steamed rice with egg, sliced chicken sausage and tuna kimchi. Just like it said, a student lunch box. And they really served it in a traditional lunch box too. Sweet. (RM8.00)
CP had ordered their DDOCK BOK KI with Korean Pancake with Squid. Another plate of Ddock Bok Ki was really too much for me. As it's very filling. But the pancake was quite nice but lacks ingredients. A little bit more prawns and squid won't hurt, right? lol~! (RM11.00)As if he's not already full, CP had also ordered another meal which is their famous Tuna Kimchi Mixed Rice or they called it Bimbibap. It's also one of their local delicacy as the food is served in a stone bowl which kept the warmth of the rice. I don't really dig kimchi so I have no comment on this dish.

Overall, the food over was nice and new for me. But maybe I stick with Japanese or Taiwan dishes as I don't really fancy Kimchi that much. And Kimchi is their famous delicacy. Ironic~! (Rating: 3.8 out of 5.0)

Carl's Jr - Sunway Pyramid

MD and me had planned to visit Carl's Jr for quite some time. And tonight is the big night. The place was really crowded (surprised) and we had to wait for some customers to leave for a seat. So many burgers on the counter wall that we need to browsed through it for a few minutes before deciding what to order. I had settled with their Portobello Mushroom Burger (left) and MD had selected their Bacon Swiss Crispy Chicken (right). When they say, picture may differ from actual size, they're weren't bullshitting.

The above picture is the actual burger which we had ordered. Yes! Big difference. Maybe the taste is good? Well, MD's Crispy Chicken was really nice according to him. For my Portobello Chicken, well it's not bad then again nothing special bout it neither. It's almost the same as Burger King's Double Cheese Swiss Mushroom to me. And the price is half of what I am paying for Carl's Jr. Well it's my opinion anyway. But one thing for sure, it's better than Wendy's.

The fries that come with the set is totally different from the one that we had in McD or any fast food outlets. It's potato's wedges slice into fries shape. They uses Heinz chilly sauce and you need to ask before they will hand it over to you. Drinks are refillable, so don't size up your set if you're not that hungry. They even have Channel Island Roasting Co. Coffee and Hot Tea for you to drink. Other than burgers, they do serve side dishes like Beef Chili Cheese Fries (famous), CrissCut Fries, Onion Rings and Fried Zucchini. They had salads, Desserts and also Ice Cream Shakes & Malts. German Deli iMBiSS - Dataran Ara Damansara

I had planned to visit this place out after I read it on The Star paper early this week. It's a German restaurant selling sausages and burgers mainly. The way they prepared and served the food was said is the same as in German. So what the heck, I thought why not? The place is located at D-G-31, Block D, No.31, Jalan PJU 1A/20B, Dataran Ara Damansara. The owner is a German guy who migrated over to M'sia few years back and married a local Malay. So he's converted to Muslim. So obviously the place served HALAL food.
The decoration of the place looks like a fast food restaurant but it's not. There's menu on the counter and also on the table. So they will come over and take your order once you're ready. Or you can go to the counter to order for take away. They are strongly promoting their Bratwurst - original German sausage which they mentioned was all manufactured by themselves. They offers 10 types of sausages like Wigg's Thuringer and Garlic Chive Griller to name a few. They also served hot sandwiches like their famous Smoke Beef & Egg Omelet and Big-Biss Meatloaf. Cold sandwiches range from Gourmet iMBiS, Smoke Duck Breast and Russian Egg & Chicken. They also offers ala-carte like Grille Beef Steak and German Chicken.
I had ordered their Charbroiled Premium Burger - iMBiSS Hambuger Steak. It is served with 150grams of chopped beef in a soft bun, garnished with pickles Gherkin, onions and Special iMBiSS sauce. Well for me the bun is not that soft and the steak wasn't that warm too. Maybe they place over at the counter too long. The steak itself tasted quite OK and the sauce was nice. Portion wise, quite filling after you finishing the whole set. (RM 9.80) + (RM3.00 for french fries and drinks)I had helped Romiko to ordered their 'Jalapeno' Hamburger Steak. It's also served with 150 grams of chopped beef & sun dried Jalapeno Chilies in a soft bun, garnished with pickles Gherkin, lettuce, onions with Ranch dressing. I tastes both burger and to me it's almost the same except for the sauce. Don't really felt the Jalapeno chilies kicking in. But still it's just OK for me. (RM 9.80) + (RM3.00 for french fries and drinks)As we both ordered the set, so this is the French Fries which comes together with the set. But I still prefer the smaller fries like McD. The set also come together with a drink which we can choose from Ice Lemon Tea, Ice Peach Tea, Carbonated Drinks. It's not to say fancy but something different from the normal chicken or beef burger. But I still go back for McD anytime of the day. I will definitely try their sausages on my next trip over. (Rating : 3.5 out of 5.0)

Lunch @ Wendy's Sunway Pyramid

My car was giving me some problem this few days so I sent it back to the service centre and found out that the cable for the spark plug was broken. So changed it and this cost me RM99. Well at least now I can drive my car witout worries of it broken down (choi choi choi ... touch wood~!!!)
Went to Pyramid for lunch but I invited my partner in crime, MD to joined me. We are deciding whether to eat Wendy's or Carl's Jr. We walked pass Carl's Jr and saw there is only a small crowd of people eating inside. Plus the price is around RM20 for an average meal. Too pricey for my lunch.
So we walked over Wendy's which was just a few stores away. Boy the queue was long. And the place was 90% full. So we queued up and ordered our food.
I had ordered their 1/2 pounder beef burger which come with a regular fries and also soft drink. The burger come with a double beef and a single slice of cheese in between. Nice~~~~!!! There is also the 3/4 pounder which consists of 3 slices of beef and 2 slices of cheese. (can't imagine how people gonna eat that~!!)
The price for the 1/2 pounder is RM 14.15 plus the drinks (inclusive of tax).
MD had ordered the Spicy Chicken Sensation as he doesn't want to eat beef. It was nice according to him. Both of us was so full that we can't move at the beginning. But we managed to move our butts up and walk around before we left. (Rating : 7.5 out of 10.0)
