Wood You Like To Craft Is Back!!!

Our wonderful little group of Wood Crafters from Wood You Like To Craft
took a much needed hiatus for the last couple of months.
With babies being born and moving across the country it was a much needed hiatus as you can imagine.
Well this week we are all back~so in case you've missed it so far our theme this month was chosen by Melinda from Under My Umbrella and it was CHEVRON!

Monday Melinda started us all off with her cute Chevron frame:

Tuesday was Krystal from Sassy Sanctuary with her sweet LOVE letters:
Wednesday is Wendy from Craft Goodies with her fun and easy Chevron accented frame:

Tomorrow we'll be doing Chevron Crafty Sister style~so make sure to come back to visit and check out the full tutorials at Wood You Like To Craft!

A Boutique Peek

The final boutique of the season that I do ended Saturday night
and I thought it would be fun to show you guys a little glimpse of a few of my favorite things
I did this year.

Above are my very favorite Believe letters I do.  I searched for hours for the perfect font to go along with
a tree inspired paper I saw a couple of years ago.  Although I ran out of that original paper, I did find some really cute new stuff with a black and cream hounds tooth I love!

These cute Adore letters are actually a set I tried to make after seeing some done for a Super Saturday Craft day by the very talented Wendy over at Craft Goodies.  She is one of our Wood You Like To Craft buddies!  She has the cutest ideas~I had to make some for me!  Thanks Wendy!

I found some really fun bright and playful Christmas paper I knew would be perfect for some Fa La La letters.  I've wanted to do some of these for a while now~I swear I see them on hand towels everywhere and knew I just needed to find a playful font to match!

I finally unloaded my car today and had a few things left over that I listed in my shop~but a huge thanks to everyone who came out to support us local crafters!  There is something magical about going to a boutique~unfortunately for me most of the magic I find is at the goodie table where my purchases will keep me warm all season long.....But hey, how can you resist butter toffee sprinkled with almonds, milk chocolate, white chocolate and peanut butter chips?

Candace has an amazing and delicious recipe to share tomorrow so make sure to come visit!

WYLTC? Growth Charts

Hello!
We are happy to be able to pick this month's Wood You Like To Craft? theme, Growth Charts!  We have wanted to make growth charts for our kids for a long time.  They grow up so fast!

We were inspired by growth charts made by Petite Lemon and Ferm Living.
Our kids are animal lovers and these are perfect.

First we had Home Depot slice up a piece of 1/2 inch mdf, 12 inches wide and 42 inches long.
To create the pennant, we cut with a jigsaw a notch about 2 1/2 inches up from the bottom.
We also glued in grommets into drilled holes to create the official pennant look.

Nicole and her daughter picked what they thought would be my boys' favorite animals and cut the shapes out on 1/8 inch mdf.  They are so cute and the boys love them! We had fun naming all the creatures as we mod podged the papers on.

The majority of the paper we used is from the "Sweet Day" line by Echo Park.

We added a "grow" paper pennant to the top.  This would also be cute with your child's name, but since I have multiple boys, this will do.  We drew the numbers and lines on with a paint pen.

Nicole's daughter is a serious animal lover and especially fond of owls.  (They have owl boxes in their back yard and regularly spot visiting owls. )

Nicole cut and papered an adorable owl along with her daughter's name to go on her growth chart.
She used a cricut to cut the numbers and lines for the ruler along the side.   A vinyl ruler would also be a great option.
We are so happy with how they turned out and we especially love the smaller size.

Come on over this week to Wood You Like To Craft? to see what the other girls build!

SWAK!

This week I've been busy making some Valentine letters
and I just had to use some of the cute My Mind's Eye paper
that we used on the Valentine banner.
My pictures don't do the paper justice but they were still fun to do!

I'm missing my crafting partner in crime Candace!
She is doing much better thanks to some
great antibiotics for her bronchitis~she is quickly on the mend.
So I thought I'd share some ideas for my daughter's school Valentine party
that I'm scrambling to put together today!

First off Candace shared with me this great resource for sending out
the party invite and volunteer checklist for the school party.
I don't know about you but as the Room Mom I feel like all the notes get lost in transit
from school to home and then everyone simultaneously volunteers to donate
the bag of M&M's so I'm left with a bunch of phone calls begging them to bring
fruit and veggies.  Jealous aren't ya!

The site is called BringIt! and it will email out a note to everyone
on your list, with a sign up sheet, first come first serve.
It will then send out email reminders before the party so nobody forgets!
Brilliant isn't it!  It's totally free too!
Valentine Chex® Mix (1/2 Recipe)
But what do you guys do for treats?
Above is pictured a white chocolate version of Muddy Buddies
recommended by my daughter's teacher.  Yum right? Here's the link for the yummy recipe courtesy of Betty Crocker!  I'm soooooo making these, party or not~they will be in my belly or more accurately on my fanny, thighs, jowls.....I could go on and on.:)

I know a lot of schools have outlawed sweet treats
and luckily ours just encourages us to be healthy.
I looked on Pinterest which is an evil site for someone on a diet....
and there are so many yummy treats~but are they healthy?
So here's my plea for help~~~Do you have any great ideas to share!
I'm officially desperate and need help!
Leave us a comment and let us know!

Crafting Season Has Begun!

This weekend was my first Craft Boo-tique of the Season
and it was so much fun!
These are my latest Halloween letters I made up
that I tried to snatch a picture of in fading sunlight tonight to share.
Kinda Spooky huh?
Yes, another bad pun, but hey ya'll know me and my bad puns.
I still love my Witch letters I did too.
I have a thing for green witches.:)
Thanks to all of you that came out to support us
and all the kind emails sent our way!
It made staying up working through the night 3 nights in a row all worth it.....
Candace quickly reminded me I'm no spring chicken
when I showed up opening morning to drop off my last goodies.
I think the slurred speech and incoherent jabber gave me away.
Good thing my hubby was driving.:)
I slept almost the whole day yesterday and I still don't feel caught up.

We totally love Halloween,
in fact Candace and I have been gathering
our supplies for a couple of projects that we'll be working on this week.
We are giddy with excitement for them and can't wait to reveal them!

and made something definitely for the birds!:)

Make sure to come stop by Under My Umbrella for the full tutorial
and make sure to enter your own "version"
for a chance to win a gift card!

P.S. We finally got Candace's curtain rod hung in her master bedroom

Hearts Adore

I have been eyeing a scalloped wooden heart Nicole has had hanging on her fridge for about twelve years...seriously has it been twelve years already?
It was one of the first crafts she made when she was newly married.
It was one of the first projects that inspired us to investigate saws,
since it's so hard to find great wood shapes to craft with.
I finally got her to cut a few out for us to decorate.
Nicole's original heart was scalloped like this one,
but in the center there were several dried rose buds.
Very simple and beautiful.

When we had the blank scalloped heart in our hands,
our minds started whirling with all the ways to decorate it.
So we've made up 3 different hearts to show the possibilities!

Today we have our first heart and we used fake silk hydrangea blossoms,
pearl beads, and that yummy Meyer Imports glitter.
This particular glitter is the 80 grit pink and it is luscious, like working with little crusted diamonds.
It also happens to be our mom's favorite color of pink.
When we pulled it out of the package, we both said, "That's Mom's color!"
Our mom is a rose pink fan!
We are getting some really good use out of that Opera music book!
We Mod Podged sheet music on the unfinished heart, after first painting it cream.
Nicole Mod Podge's paper quite a bit and the easiest way is to first trace and then cut.
There are less edges to sand if you do this.
We plucked apart the blossoms and hot glued them on the heart.
The hydrangea bunch had little buds that we dipped in glue and then glittered.
We also wiped a little glue  randomly on the blossoms and shook glitter over it.
We glued the pearl beads on last.
I love the mix of the pearls and glitter!
We have been so impressed with this glitter, it definitely adds a WOW factor to any project!
To finish it off, we added an "Adore" banner.  This was really simple to make.
Print your words, cut it into a strip, fold the edges, and clip the ends for a finished look.
The great thing about this heart is that it's pretty enough to be up all year!
Stay tuned this week for our reveal of the other two hearts! :)

If any of you want an unfinished scalloped heart to decorate as you please, you can order them here.

Snap! Crackle! Pop! Firecrackers!

We've got a few fun Patriotic Decor items coming up
here on Crafty Sisters and thought we start it off
with these EASY to Make Firecrackers!
I made a smaller set of these for my
America Wood letters
and they were so much fun I decided I needed more....
bigger and better to boot!
SO
Go grab the biggest dowel you can find (about 1 1/2")
I cut them in 7", 6" and 5" lengths (I got 2 sets per dowel!)
Some pre-cut Stars (the bigger the better)
some wire
and any scraps of red white and blue paper you can find!
(you don't need much for these!)
and some spray paint for the stars!

After you cut the dowel to desired lengths
make sure to drill holes in the top and into the stars
so you can attach the stars.
Don't forget to sand em' smooth!
Paint the ends of your dowels,
trim out your papers ready to go.
While your doing this you can coat the stars
and the wire that you curled with some spray paint.
I used a really fun "copper penny" shade that had a hint of silver metallic to it.
I love love love how it turned out!

After much trial and error and some help from the nice ladies in my class last week,
we decided it was definitely easier to put the glue on the paper first
and then.....adhere it to the dowel.
Just sand off any excess on the edge with sanding tools.
I dipped the end of each wire into the end
of my glue gun and stuck them into the stars and dowels.
The great thing about the springy wire attaching them is that
they have some give to arrange them how you want.
I also ran a bead of glue to attach all the firecrackers together.
I finished them off with a bow of twine
and now they're all ready to put out!
Fun, Cheap & Easy!

A Birthday Wish....

I wish I could take credit for every great craft I've ever seen and re-created...
The wish letters are one of my favorite creations I've made.
Last year one of my great clients/friends told me about a cute idea she had seen and wondered
if I could duplicate something similar to it.
The font used is a popular font I knew of right away!
You see I have a thing for fonts....
When most of my little business is cutting out Custom Names for people,
you could say I stare at a lot of fonts.....all of the time......
The font used for wish is called storybook, and the cupcake was perfect for this!

Our friend Angela from Secrets of A Super Mommy
ordered some of these fun letters from me and decorated them up herself.  She added clips to hold very cute pictures of her kids and birthday memorabilia.  Love them!

She did a really cute spotlight over at her blog- so make sure to drop by and visit!
She also did a fun highlight of the Birthday Banners we sisters prepped and sewed together for their craft group!  Angela made the banner oh so cute!
She has great ideas and traditions to share!  Make sure to head over and check Angela's blog out!

Now that we Crafty Sisters are "out there" in blogland, sharing the fun stuff~ we are lucky to get to do together, it makes us all the more aware of giving credit to all the great people who have inspired us and hoping that we are shown the same courtesy.
So to give credit where it is due, thank you to this unknown wonderful person,
who's creativity inspired us and all of you!
Thanks to Angela's great post we've had a great response for these letters,
if you are interested in some you can contact us directly through our email
