Dresser to TV Stand Tutorial

So...I ran into this beauty at Savers for $15 & decided that even though it was pretty ugly...I could make it pretty...

I sanded her down...
and with a jig saw...cut off the two dividers on the "top shelf" of the dresser. Then I had a piece of wood cut to match the dimension and laid it down to create a smooth open shelf, instead of the 3 top drawers. I also put a piece of beadboard in the back...but this wasn't necessary, as you can't see the back in the finished project. Oops.
I primed the entire dresser and here you can see my wood "shelf" sitting on top...
I applied wood glue and then clamped it for a good 24 hours until I thought it was secure...

I put my freshly painted doors back in & bought some cheap white knobs at Hobby Lobby! Notice that they were the "handle" knobs, but I couldn't find any that I liked, so I just put 2 single knobs in each drawer and I think it turned out great!
Freshly painted light blue "entertainment dresser"...
And my TV is much happier sitting on a pretty piece of furniture! I didn't even notice the curves at the bottom of the dresser until it was painted & I love them. The top shelf provides a perfect spot for our DVD Player and Tivo and a spot for a woven basket in the middle...
Hidden in that basket??
Remotes & tv cords!

and those dresser drawers provide storage for ALL our movies!!!

Remember this???
It's now this...

Rustic Cabin Clock

We planned a trip up to my in-laws cabin a couple weeks ago & I wanted to surprise them with something nice for the cabin.
I decided to make a large clock to hang on their fireplace
& wanted it to have a "RUSTIC-CABIN FEEL".

I started with a 3 foot round piece of wood...
and some tongue & groove wooden planks...
I just started lining them up on the round...making some simple cuts with my jigsaw every now and then to break up the planks...

and kept going until my round was completely covered...
Then I just used some wood glue to attach the planks where I wanted them...
Once it was dry, I flipped it over & cut off the "extra wood"with my jig saw using the circle as my guide...It was SUPER EASY!
I gave it a sloppy coat of white paint. Remember, I wanted a RUSTIC look, so I didn't want it to look to even, but I wanted it all white...

I was going to paint the numbers on, but decided to give the ever famous "address numbers" a whirl, to give a 3D look...
I nailed them all on & nailed several nails throughout the clock to hold the planks on securely & to add to the rustic look...
They had a kind of reflective silvery look which I thought might look like metal, but I ended up not liking them & painted the numbers solid black.

I finished the project up at the cabin, during our getaway & discovered the mechanism I brought up DID NOT WORK!!! I was sad that I couldn't attach the hands & hang it up for them on this trip:(

BUT...this is where I PLANNED to hang it...

Maybe after the baby is born we will get up there with the FINISHED CLOCK...
Now...should I remove the ADDRESS NUMBERS & paint on some numbers & sand them down for a weathered look??? Every time I look at it, I feel like I'm looking at a house address...but maybe I have just been looking at it too long?? Thoughts???

Brinton Elementary

10 years ago an Elementary School was named after my Grandpa & this past week we had the opportunity to go to the 10 year anniversary & celebrate the success of the school and my Grandfather's life.
I made a clock to donate to the school from our family & they were very grateful.
I used my "Make the Cut" software on my cricut NEW UPDATE: This program is not compatible with Cricut anymore, unless you already have it:( I'm so sad!!!But can still be purchased to use with the Silhouette, Gazelle & more! Check out my sidebar for the purchase link! & just imported their school logo directly in to my computer & it was so easy to cut it from vinyl and apply to the clock! You can do this with nearly ANY image!

Want to make a clock for someone you love for Christmas?
Did you know they sell "Table Rounds" at Home Depot that double great as CLOCK ROUNDS!?
Have fun creating! I'd love to feature any clocks you make, here on my blog...email to Staci at craftifyit@gmail.com !

stop the CLOCK & be THANKFUL...

Is it just me, or are the days/weeks/months flying by a little too quickly?!?

I know this time of year is always BUSY with all of the holidays, but it seems like it is going EXTRA FAST this year!

I just barely got all of my Halloween put away & I'm already worrying about getting all of my Christmas shopping done.

BUT...I am trying to stop and enjoy NOVEMBER too.
You know, the MONTH of Thankfulness.

It is one of my favorites, yet sometimes I feel like it gets squished in between Halloween and Christmas & we barely think about it, until we are downing Mashed Potatoes and gravy on Thanksgiving Day!

Well, as I'm working to savor this month of gratitude, I also have to be realistic and start THINKING about Christmas, so I'm not waiting until the last minute.

Two of my good friends were thinking ahead & asked me to help them make CLOCKS for Christmas Gifts this year...I was HAPPY to take the TIME to help!

We spent the day, painting & sanding & eating & enjoying each other's company:)

Debbie ended up with this gorgeous white tin clock that I LOVE, that she made for her sister...

And Janell made up 2 Arizona State University clocks for her son's bedrooms...
I love the way they both turned out & bet her boys will love them!
How did I cut the vinyl for these clocks?
There is not a "College Logo" cartridge as far as I know.

I used my FAVORITE SOFTWARE...
NEW UPDATE: This program is not compatible with Cricut:( I'm so sad! But is still available for purchase on my sidebar for use with Silhouette, Gazelle and others.
You can practically cut ANY IMAGE with this software & costs almost the same as 1 cartridge!
It works with Cricut, Craft ROBO, Silhouette & Gazelles!
*unfortunately it is not compatible with Mac Computers yet:(

Thinking of purchasing? I think you DESERVE it as an early Christmas Gift to yourself!
Purchase through any Make the Cut link on my blog and I receive credit for your purchase & will be SO GRATEFUL!

Soon...you will be able to  google "ASU logos" & find this...

and import it into your program & cut the vinyl you need & create THIS...
Imagine the possibilities!
BUY TODAY!
It is currently on sale for $58.36, you save over $20 with this sale!

Now, that is something to be THANKFUL for;)

Framed!

My cousin AND one of my very BESTEST friends is getting married next month!
We ran off to China together and taught English for a semester & LOVED every second of that experience & then almost a year later, we roomed together at college. We are 3 months apart, so we went through school together, even though we went to rival schools & played against each other in Basketball and Volleyball:) She is the happiest girl in the world and I love her so much! I'm so glad these 2 found each other, they are PERFECT together!

Last night was her Bridal Shower & I really wanted to make her a CLOCK, so I asked for any colors she might prefer. She said she would love ANYTHING, but LOVES ALL WHITE...
Hmmm....
How to make an ALL WHITE CLOCK??
I immediately thought of this one, that I made a few months back...

BUT...the tins I have are 12" and I wanted to make her a
BIG CLOCK
...so I went to my garage & rummaged around. I knew I needed TEXTURE if I was going to attempt an ALL WHITE clock, so when I saw a piece of bead board that was
2ft x 2 ft,
I knew it would be perfect!

Then I saw a long piece of trim laying on the ground(my baseboards for my Master Bedroom Redo & wondered if I could make a "FRAME" for my clock??? I can get another piece of trim for my baseboards later, right;)

I broke out the Miter Saw & cut 45 degree angles on each piece of wood & guess what?! It worked!
Kind of.
It is NOT professional, but for my 1st attempt at a frame, I thought it wasn't terrible;)

I decided on some BEIGE dots for the numbers so that the overall appearance was still "ALL WHITE", but the clock would actually tell time;)
I roughed up the Bead board a bit & gave it BARELY enough time to dry, before heading off to the shower!:)

Holly, I hope you and Tyson have the
TIME of your lives together!!!

TICK TOCK

I was making a THANK YOU gift for someone great & I thought a clock would be perfect, because she put a lot of TIME into what she did!

I grabbed a tin ceiling tile from my stash...what you don't have spare tins laying around?
Well, you can find them at most home decor places or you can order actual silver ceiling tiles online and then spray paint them whatever color you want.

I thought numbers might be too busy with this design, but still wanted "hour marks" so I just printed some quick vinyl dots and spaced them around the clock...
Then I took the clock outside for a quick coat of WHITE spray paint...
and then I carefully peeled off the vinyl dots, using tweezers...
I decided this clock needed to be roughed up a bit, so I took some sandpaper to it...
Last , but not least...I drilled a hole in the center & screwed in a clock mechanism and hands..
I decided against the typical spade hands and used these circle ones, because the center of this clock reminded me of a COMPASS & I just thought these hands worked!
A quick and easy project!!
Have an idea for a clock & want to make one for your home?

Don't know where to find the mechanism and the hands?
Don't overlook the fact that you remove them from an old clock you don't use anymore & then your cost is free!

Your local craft store, Michaels or Hobby Lobby will likely carry them as well!

Those stores don't have what you are looking for?
Order from my favorite website...

COOL FRAME CLOCK

I saw this cool clock idea at Dutchbydesign
& wanted to share the idea with YOU!!!

Then, in my INBOX this week, I got an email from Lisa, asking where to find Clock Hands for a clock she made for her son's room. I had to click over to check out her clock & LOVED what I saw!

It is a similar idea as the Dutch By Design one, but she has put pictures of her son in each frame...one for each month of his life from birth to 1 year! Such a GREAT idea,

Go check it at HER BLOG, you will love it too!

Clock Designs with MTC

A few more clock designs...hope I am not boring you with them, but that is how I have been spending my "free" time lately!

 ------------------

I had a client ask for a RED clock with black numbers & said her son's room theme is Monster Trucks.
I decided to use some black numbers I had to give a little bit of a 3-D look and glued them on...
but BEFORE gluing, I decided the clock needed "REAL" Monster Truck Tire Tracks,
so I just rolled my son's toy truck wheels in paint & rolled across the wood...
After adding the numbers, I decided I wanted a MONSTER TRUCK in the center of the clock.
I wanted a simple outline of a truck, so after GOOGLING "Monster Trucks", I found this picture & imported it to my new MAKE THE CUT SOFTWARE for my Cricut, using "Pixel Trace"
NEW UPDATE: This program is not compatible with Cricut anymore:( I'm so sad!!! But can be purchased for use with Silhouette, Gazelle and others!
It traces the image right into the program & then I used a "shadow" affect so it would cut a slightly larger on on black vinyl, as well as the image I wanted in white vinyl!
EASY PEASY!
I hope this particular 3 year old loves his new "Monster Truck" Clock!

Next up...

the same client had a request for a Baby Blue Clock with Brown Numbers for her baby Hudson & sent me this picture of his crib bedding...
I loved the design on his sheets & googled "Circle Dots" & found this image & then just cropped out ONE of the circle designs & again imported it into my Make the Cut Program using Pixel Trace...
I tweaked this one a bit & got a look that I was happy with & printed it in a few different styles/sizes...
And then CUT out of VINYL...
I found a font in MTC that I liked & printed 3" numbers for the clock as well, along with a 6" letter H for the center, since his name is Hudson & placed on an already spray painted, Chocolate Brown Round...
Wait!
Didn't I say that she wanted a BLUE CLOCK with BROWN NUMBERS?
Well, guess what? I didn't have any BROWN VINYL, so this was my way around it.
I used the vinyl as a "  stencil"...
and then took it outside & spray painted it Baby Blue...
After it dried, I peeled the vinyl off & Wah-La...
Blue Clock with Brown Numbers!

Thinking about Purchasing Make The Cut???
It is on sale right now for $58.36!!!
It is normally $80, so that is a big savings.
