IK Gathering Dec 07

This time round we had a small group gathering at the newest joint at Keong Saik Rd ....
25 Degree Celsius Pte Ltd .... a joint that sells fusion food and cook books too!
I had a good time there chilling out with the regulars and new members too. Vi from the US and Chin from Australia joined us.
After doing so much cooking and baking during the week before Christmas, it was really good to just sit back and relax and enjoy the food the joint cooked LOL

Here's sharing with you the gals and the food there .....

Some of the main courses that were eaten .....

The yummy desserts ......

The gals ..... and a gentleman and a pre-teen :-)

Rolling Puff Pastry Demo

IK gathering in September 07 had a member demonstrating to us how to roll puff pastry. I have not attempted to do this cos' it's quite a complicated task.
I was definitely enlightened when I saw how it was rolled and tasted the final product .... cinnamon puffs. Thanks L for showing us how it's done.

Recipe for the puff pastry ....
300 g plain flour
150 g water , chilled
50 g butter, melted

Mix altogether into a dough and rest dough in the fridge for about half an hour.

For folding the pastry you need 200 g butter. If butter starts to melt in the process of folding, place the folded pastry in the freezer or chiller for about 15 mins.

Roll pastry using the single fold method and do it for at least three times. You may want to roll it up to six times for a puffier puff.
After the final roll, cut out the pastry using a circular cutter and egg wash with egg yolk. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and baked at 160 degree C for 15 mins.

The final product is here .......

Brush over the puff with sugar syrup ( 2 parts sugar to 1 part water) to get the shiny top.

IK Gathering May 07

This time it was at Linda's house. Thank-you Linda for your hospitality. There were many new faces this time round and of course it was always good to say hello to old friends too. I got to eat Macarons this time round, thanks to Karen who made them herself to share with us. Linda's durian moouse was really good and Edith's cuppies were so pretty and yummy too. At the end of the day, I felt really satiated. Actually there was quite a number of yummies I couldn't eat cos' I was too full LOL.

Linda did her demo on piping the chrysanthemum flowers and many of us also had a hand in piping the flower on the cake. Gladcake was also there to share her skill in moulding sugarpaste. Time was really too short as she had to leave earlier. I feel so blessed at this gathering that these ladies so generously shared what they know with all of us.

IK Gathering Mar 07

Yes, it's IK gathering again and this time we had the ever gracious hugbear who shared with us her skill in rolling and pleating dim sums like har gao, guo tie and xiao long pau. Also we had the generous yochana who allowed the group to use her kitchen for the gathering. Ah ...the camaderie of learning, sharing , chit chatting and eating always allow the bonds of friendship to develop. There's always a warm and fuzzy feeling after the gathering is over . Once again I got to know more names to nicks and put faces to their names .

Look at all those yummylicious food. My contribution this time was a baked pasta.

IK Gathering Jan 07

Members of Imperial Kitchen had a gathering at L's place on 7th Jan 2007.
We had over 20 members coming together to eat our lovely bakes and tete-e-tete over green tea and orange juice. It was a warm and friendly get together where I had the chance to meet up with some of those that I already know and made new friends too. This chance to meet up also enabled me to put ID names to faces. Ah...the only regret was that I didn't have a chance to speak to everyone and also I missed getting my photo shoots ...urgh. Hopefully next time I'll remember.
