CIMB ATM withdrawal overseas using Cirrus (2015)

I just want to make a short post here so people could benefit if they wanted to know how much is the ATM withdrawal charges.


I'm currently in Erlangen, Germany and I have activated Overseas ATM Withdrawal via CIMB Clicks. I went to an ATM here which has the CIRRUS logo and proceeded to withdraw EUR20 (just for demonstration) and here are the charges shown on CIMB Clicks:


Overseas withdrawal fee = RM 10
GST for the fee = 0.06 x RM 10 = RM 0.60
Withdrawal amount = EUR 20 = RM 85.98 (exchange rate would be 4.299)

Guide on purchasing Electone registration from the internet

Pre-requisite:
1. Reader must know how to operate Yamaha Musicsoft Downloader software
2. Reader must have a credit card (which is activated for internet) for purchase
3. Reader must know how to convert website to English (for Japanese illiterate readers)

Procedure:
1. Go to this website http://www.whiteagle.net/ to convert your name into Japanese hiragana characters. Fake name is OK. Just need to be in hiragana. See my name “Chua Yi Quan” when converted to hiragana looks like below:

2. Go to this website http://www.music-eclub.com/eldata/entrance.php to start your purchasing.

3. Choose the corresponding Electone model for the registration that you wish to purchase:

4. You may want to click the Translate button now as it may get a little confusing:

5. There are many ways to search for the registration you need. Try exploring yourself. There is even a list of latest books published by Yamaha, etc.

6. For me, I already know the song title I am looking for so I will search directly:

You can see that item #1 is only 216yen but item #2 is 324yen. This is due to item #2 has a sample performance.

8. For this time I will buy with the sample performance as I do not have the score and will view the score directly on the Electone screen (for DDK model and above).

9. I do not wish to purchase anything else so I will directly check-out my basket:

10. Registration requires a reference address in Japan. Since I do not have that, I will just purchase without registering:

11. Here is the tricky part. Remember your hiragana name from Step #1? Now it is the time to use it. Also, you may need to fake the Japanese phone number. Please see my sample below:

12. OK, after this, you will need to fill in your credit card details. I believe you know what to do. After you check through everything is correct, press the button to purchase!

13. Congratulations! Your purchase was successful. Press the link to download the registration file.

14. Click the file and it will be automatically opened by Musicsoft:

15. Transfer to your thumb drive and enjoy!

p/s: After this purchase I realized it is not possible to view the score from the Electone. Yamaha is damn smart! Luckily I still can play by ear. =)

Interview Questions

I've had the privilege to go through an interview over the phone with an american conglomerate lately (30 minutes). It is some sort of a first round interview. Getting or not getting the job is secondary, I felt the questions being asked are quite challenging and worth to be shared. Anyway, just recording them down for my own reference in the future.

1. Describe your working experience in detail.

2. Describe the key satisfaction from your current work.

3. Describe the key dissatisfaction from your current work.

4. What is the pushing or pulling factor for you to apply for this position?

5. Tell me a time in your work where you had to cope with less resources.

6. Everybody makes mistakes. Tell me a time you have made a mistake and what you have learned from it?

7. Tell me a time where you had to convince a customer that did not agree with you in the beginning.

8. Tell me a time where you had to take a risk and it turned out to be a good outcome.

9. If I was to contact your line manager at this time, tell me two qualities that he/she will use to describe you.

and a few more questions.

Just imagine how would the final interview be!!!

 

Everything Keyboard

First post of the year 2012! Last post was October 2011. Half a year not blogging! What can I say..I was busy with life?!?

If you have been following this blog, you should know that I love music and musical instruments. I have been learning and playing the Yamaha Electone since I was 7 years old and I still play occasionally. I know a tiny little bit of guitar and violin and always wished to learn drums. Another instrument similar to the Electone that I have always fancied are keyboards and synthesizers. Modern keyboards can produce such real and rich sounds! Not forgetting the drum kits and effects. I could sit here watching youtubes on keyboards and pianos for hours!

Out of my love for these instruments, I have created a website dedicated to them!

At the moment, I am writing on the big four keyboard manufacturers KORG, Yamaha, Roland, and Casio. In the website, I give a personal review/opinion on the keyboards and also list the specifications and youtube video for the readers easy reference. I hope you will enjoy reading them as much as I do writing them. Will sure update from time to time with latest products and also expand on the brands.

Every 25th of the month I receive my pay cheque. It is the same for this month Oct 2011. As I check my account balance and also took some cash from the ATM, I suddenly had this urge to post this. I have been wanting to post it for some time now. Seems now is the time.


After working for four years plus already, I begin to realize that I actually have the ability to earn a living and survive in this society, on my own. I really feel fortunate to have a complete physique and able to execute daily routines. And with the knowledge that I have gathered over the years(and the years to come), I would not need to beg to fill my stomach.

Of all these, none of it is of my credit! I owe all of them to three persons/angels whom appeared in my life:

Dearest Dad,
Thanks for your hard work in bringing back the bread for the family. You are truly an aspiring zero-to-hero role model to me. I have never respected a man more than yourself. I managed to live a moderately-good life since I was born till now thanks to you. What I asked(logical and reasons ones of course), you provided. No questions asked. Only God knows how much you have endured during your working career.

Dearest Mom,
It is always heart-warming to listen to all my baby stories from you. I have received the greatest care a son could have received from a mother. Whole-hearted devotion to the family you gave and still giving. Thanks for always paying attention to my studies and whacked me whenever the occasion arises. I have never appreciated the punishments until now. Truly, this IS the correct way to bring up a child like me.

Dearest Elaine,
Definitely fate brought us together. You have been the greatest companion during university study times. Sometimes, I am quite sure I could not have graduated with a decent merit without you. And then you decided to move to KL and begin your career here(although you received a good offer from Penang) so that you could be with me. Whenever I think of this sacrifice, I would just weep. It is close to 9 years now that we have been together. You can never imagine how much I appreciate this relationship.

To these guardians of my life: It has been my greatest pleasure having to have known you. In the next life, if possible, I will wish to be reborn to the same Dad and Mom and to know Elaine later in my life.

One could never ask for more.

Leng Lui

I always have different opinion with Elaine when coming to determining whether a girl is pretty(lenglui). Obviously, we have different tastes but I think mine is better. Elaine will disagree but let you readers decide. For me, lengluis are like..

1. Joey Wong (王祖贤)

Born: 1967
Quan's remarks: Classical lenglui that was a lenglui back in late 80s, still considered lenglui by today's standards, and foresee will be the same in the near future.

2. Vivian Hsu (徐若瑄)
Born: 1975
Quan's remarks: No guy in this world will deny that she is a lenglui. You will hope that she was the girl next door. Totally leng and very talented in music too. Lyricist.

3. Fala Chen (陳法拉)

Born: 1982
Quan's remarks: Oh my god..those killer dimples!

4. Belinda Chee

Born: 1982
Quan's remarks: Local lenglui! Hooked on to her when she hosted shows on 8tv. Already married and expecting first child.

5. Ong Ching Yee (王菁忆)
Born: 1982
Quan's remarks: Local lenglui again! She hosts the best mandarin news ever! Totally sweet looking and perform so well when anchoring the news. Wished she'd read the news to me everyday. And, she's from the same university as mine but I never knew her. FML! Already married.

p/s: 1982 PRODUCE SO MANY LENGLUIS?!? KENG!!!
