Nostalgia Critic: "The Room"

There's a movie made by an unknown actor/director/writer/executive producer/producer (check the credits) named Tommy Wiseau that is considered one of the worst movies out there.  It's a little independent film he made based on his novel and screenplay called "The Room."  I have not seen it, but it is developing a cult following along the lines of "Plan 9 From Outer Space."

Well, last week the Nostalgia Critic (Doug Walker) gave a hilarious review of this film, even by the end of the review recommending it to people just so they could see how bad it is.  Before him, a newer reviewer going by the name Obscura Lupa had also done her own review of the film.

By this week, both reviews have been removed from the website.  Why?  Wiseau-Films made a copyright claim on the fact that they used footage from the film to make their point.

Well, at the moment Obscura Lupa's review is stil MIA, but the Nostalgia Critic's take is up at YouTube.

I'll talk a little more about this in the podcast this week, but just thought I would post this to give you guys a preview of at least one of the topics I'll be talking about this week.

Update: Fellow TGWTG contributor Brad Jones (The Cinema Snob) made his own contribution to the recent events.

This Week's Roger Ebert Movie Reviews -- Memorial Day Weekend Edition

I haven't done these in awhile, but now that I'm starting to increase the input here again I think now's a good time to get back in to them. For those just joining the blog, the reason I run down Roger Ebert's reviews in particular is because often his thinking is closest to mine when it comes to films. Not always (I disagree with his 3 star review of "Angels and Demons"), but most of the time.

For your Memorial Day weekend enjoyment, here are the movies Ebert reviewed this week.

"Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" -- 1 1/2 stars
"The Girlfriend Experience" -- 4 stars
"Summer Hours" -- 3 stars
"The Brothers Bloom" -- 2 1/2 stars
"Adoration" -- 3 stars
"Terminator Salvation" -- 2 stars

This Week's Roger Ebert Reviews 9/19/08

This week, one choice on the list has been an anticipated one, but for the wrong reasons -- the Dakota Fanning film "Hounddog," which drew some negative press because of a scene where her character gets raped by an older boy. Ebert gave it 2 stars in his review. So how did the other releases fare this week?

Ghost Town -- 3 stars
Lakeview Terrace -- 4 stars
Trouble the Water -- 4 stars
Towelhead -- 2 stars

Also being released this week: "My Best Friend's Girl," "The Duchess" in limited release, "Appaloosa" in limited release, and "Igor."

This Week's Roger Ebert Reviews -- 9/12

The list is late today because of some family matters I was taking care of today.

Yes, I do realize that Ebert wrote a scathing opinion this week on what he thought of Sarah Palin. First and foremost, though, he's a film critic. My message to him: don't quit your day job. Here are his reviews for this week.

Burn After Reading -- 3 stars
The Women -- 3 stars
A Girl Cut In Two -- 3 1/2 stars

Also released this week: "Righteous Kill" starring DeNiro and Pacino, "The Family That Preys," "Towelhead" in New York and Los Angeles, "Flow: For Love of Water" in New York and Los Angeles, "Surfer, Dude" in limited release, and "Proud American" in limited release.

A Note On Doing Product Reviews

Today, I just got my first offer to do an unbiased review of a product on this site from a company. I decided to check out the company, but decided not to for two reasons.

One, the product they were wanting me to do a review on was for a treatment for urinary tract infections. I've only had one in my life, during the pregnancy, so I wasn't the best person to determine whether it actually worked or not.

The other reason is because I'm breastfeeding my son when I can, so I don't want to put anything in my body that could potentially go into the breast milk and affect him.

With that being said, I did want to state that I am not above doing unbiased reviews for products on here, if offered. But there are a few guidelines, so if you are a company that is looking for someone to do an unbiased review of your product, keep these things in mind.

1) My opinion will be totally unbiased. Don't expect me to give anything a good review just because you give me the product to try.

2) Because of the reason stated above, I will not review vitamin supplements or anything considered "medicinal."

3) However, I am willing to try anything else, such as gadgets, baby items, DVDs, etc., and give an honest opinion.

If enough companies contact me on this, the reviews may get moved to yet another created blog specifically for product reviews. Baby item reviews would most likely get moved to Christopher Jacob's Own Little Play Place automatically at this stage. But for now, I'll keep them here.
