Valentine's Day

Talya was very spoiled by her grandparents this year for Valentine's Day. She LOVED opening all her packages and especially excited about all the candy. I'll be needing to hide it all pretty soon or she'll be a such a sugar high that she won't sleep for a week.

Colten and I celebrated our Valentine's by going out the night before to the Jazz game in the cities.

Made a heart wreath at a Valentine's party.

 Opening Grandma Bracken's package.

A view of her cute heart hair-do. (My friend Katie did this.)

Opening a package from Grandma Pollock.

Opening her package from Grandma Hunt.

Getting to open her Valentine's Day box from our party with all our friends.

Looking good in her new heart glasses!

Utah Jazz vs Minnesota Timberwolves

For Christmas Colten got us tickets to the T-Wolves vs. Jazz game in Minneapolis. We left Talya at home with our friends and headed to the big city. Our seats were pretty awesome. I've never sat so close at a professional game before. I figured since we were cheering for the visiting team we needed to have Jazz gear. Colten was skeptical at first but it was so worth it once we got there and we had a instant friendship with the other Jazz fans we saw. We even had another couple wearing Jazz jersey's come sit right by us. They were able to do that since not a lot of people were at the game. Our little group of 4 did our very best to cheer loud for the Jazz. We thought we might get jumped or beat up but no one said anything to us. And the Jazz won! It was a very fun night.

Mixed Bag

Each year Mayo Medical School puts on a Talent Show, called Mixed Bag, and one evening all of the students come together to enjoy a night of potluck and entertainment. Colten is very talented at many things but for his talent this year, he cheated by using Talya as his prop. (or should I say Talya used Colten as his prop?!)

Everyone loved the video Colten made and Talya was the star of the show. She thought it was pretty cool watching herself on the big screen.

Polar Bear Plunge 2

Colten wanted to do the Polar Bear Plunge again this year. He jumped with our friend from church and his Radiology Department.

I think its a little crazy but they say they had fun! Burrrr...

Talya really wanted something with this Polar Bear. I'm not sure what but She wouldn't let him hold her. She kept trying to get his attention and was saying, "See ya!" "See ya Bear."

Do they have to grow up?

Natalya at 25 months

On January 15th, I was enjoying a girls night out at a friends house when I got a message from my sweet husband that said, "Houston we have a problem!" Followed shortly by a video message of our "just barely" two year old climbing out of her crib. Oh no!! As a new parent, when your child does something new for the "first time" its really fun/cute. Well this "cute" new first was quickly short lived. I got home that night from my friends around 10:30 to find Talya and Colten still awake watching TV. She was ridiculous that night. Finally around midnight she fell asleep in our bed (Big No No in my opinion) only to wake up an hour later around 1 am. I took her downstairs and we watched a couple movies, then it was Colten's turn. She finally kicked the bucket around 4:30 AM!

I kind of went into panic mode the next week and was crazily doing everything I could think of to keep her trapped in her crib.

My first priority was to purchase a crib tent. Well that didn't happen because crib tent's have been recalled and you can not buy one anywhere. So then came all of the following...

This worked for an entire day!
She wouldn't climb out of the front of the pack-n-play and was trapped on all other sides.

But then... climbing out of the front wasn't so hard and my new theory was out the door.

So then we tried this...

This method bought us another couple of days until she figured out that grabbing the side of the crib rail and putting her foot on the pack-n-play made it easy to climb into the crib and from there she would climb out of the crib.

This idea lasted about an hour until she just moved the pack-n-play out of her way to get to the door.

Again, this lasted a short time before she opened the door.

So then, we bought some child proof door handles and put one on the inside of her room. It worked to keep her in her bedroom but not in her crib.

After a week or more of trying all these ways to keep her in the crib, I was about ready to give up. But then we had several people tell us that we just need to sit in her room and make her stay in the crib until she falls asleep. This is what I was NOT wanting to do. In the past, all we had to do was lay her down with her Cubby bear, blanket and binkie and she'd go right to sleep. It took all of about 30 seconds and my job was done. I was a little selfish thinking I was going to have to sit in there now until she falls asleep. However, each  night the time got shorter and shorter until now, (at least at night time) we usually don't have to stay in there anymore! Nap time is another story! She will not stay in her crib unless you are in the room. It takes her anywhere from 30 min to over an hour to go to sleep. I wish there was an easier way! If I lock her in her room at naptime, it ends up looking like this... or worse.

I'm just glad she hasn't figured out how to take her clean clothes out of the dresser. I can deal with the clothes from the hamper because it's an easy clean up.

ASIDE from my challenging month of January, we do find her to say and do some adorable things.

*At her 2 year check-up she was 35 inches and 29 lbs. She's had to have a couple blood draws because she has high hemoglobin. We're still in the process of figuring out what that means and have another blood draw scheduled in March.

*She is starting to get to a point where we can reason with her on some things.

*She still doesn't eat well. She won't try new foods (unless its fake) and barely eats enough to stay alive, even though it doesn't look like it.

*She got a kitchen for her Birthday/Christmas and LOVES it. She plays with it everyday and pretends to eat all of the food. She'll frequently bring us something to eat and say, "Eat it, Mommy!" "Talya eat it!" "Mmmmm!"

*She likes to dress her Cubby Bear in a diaper, clothes and boots!

*She will not say the prayer but is very good about folding her arms and closing her eyes.

* She is not interested in Potty Training, other than for a game. She'll often say, "Talya Potty Me!" She just likes to get naked and play by the potty but hasn't once used the big potty.

*She likes to pick out what show she gets to watch. This is how it goes, "I watch.... ummmm.... BALTO..... ummmm...... Einstein...... ummmm..... Cindawella"

*See waves at everyone and says to them, "See Ya!"

*When it's time to clean up her toys she sings over and over, "cleem up cleem up everybody cleem up."

*She has to hug and kiss EVERYTHING. The other night she was putting the play food back into the box and she was kissing every piece. And kisses don't come without hugs.
When Daddy leaves she always wants a kiss and hug, then she always wants Dad to kiss and hug Mom.

*She knows her name is Talya Brwackin, Mommy is Meegin Brwackin, and Daddy is Colteen Brwackin.

*It never fails that Daddy is always downstairs in the office studying when its time for her bedtime routine. I'll help her get her PJ's on and teeth brushed, then we head to the stairs and she will YELL, "Colteen! Now! Hurry! Up!" (I have no idea where she learned that.) :)

And we finally got a little snow to play in.

Shot Show MN

Our own very miniature "Shot Show" in Rochester, MN. We headed to the Civic Center one evening to go find a moose, a bear and a big buck! At least that's what Talya wanted to see.

We didn't get to see a bear but we did get to see a wolf and this is Talya doing her "wolf Howl".

We found some ATV's and she loved this part. We sat her on a green one and after a few seconds she said, "bwoken" and got right down and headed from this one to soon find out that it was also "bwoken".

On our way back to the car we had to get a picture with the Honker! Talya loves all of the Canadian Geese here in Rochester, but we just call them Honkers.

Snowboarding & Jumping

Colten's family stayed in town a few days past New Years so we took the opportunity to do a couple fun things. On New Year's Day, several of the adults headed to Cedar to watch Les Miserable at the matinee showing. Myself and bro-in-law (because we are cool and not so into Les Mis) road over a little later. We all met up for lunch and then the ladies headed back to Etown. The guys and I headed to Brian Head to go snowboarding/skiing. We did night skiing because its cheaper and for 25 bucks we got rentals, lift ticket, a piece of pizza and drink. Not too bad!

I think I got this Jazz coat for Christmas in 1999 during my 8th grade year. It took too much space in my suitcase to bring my big coat from MN so here I am bringing old-skool back in-style!

Then everyone who was still left at the Bracken's for the Holidays went down to St. George to have a little fun. AntiGravity is a huge jumping center that has lots of trampolines attached to each other as well as inflatable obstacle courses, and an arcade. Everyone loved it here, even the adults.

I still got it!

Holiday Randoms

These are a few random shots from our Holidays with the Bracken's.
Talya and her cousins in their pretty dresses right after church. Talya had already taken her black shoes off to put on Lina's white church shoes.

Found Aunt Lara's lipstick and new exactly what to do with it!

"At the same time lets all throw play money into the air! WhaHOO!!"

Better Than "what" Chex Mix??

12 out of the 17 Bracken Grandkids.

New Year's Eve Rook Game. Etown Style!!

Anything Ipad... Talya will be there! Cooper kept scooting away until he got right up next to his mom and couldn't scoot anymore. Then Talya kept getting closer and closer!

Watching a movie at bedtime with the girls!

Sledding, Shooting and more Sledding

While in Utah, there wasn't a lot of snow but enough that we were able to have some fun outside playing in it. Our first time, Uncle Ward pulled the kids behind the 4-wheeler and then let the girls help him drive. We didn't have a snowsuit for Talya so as you can see, I wrapped her lower half in a big garbage bag. It worked perfectly! Haha

We went with Grandpa Hunt up the road to so a little shooting. We blow up some milk jugs and frozen pop cans.

While with all of the Bracken's, we all went sledding by the elem school. It was a cold day but the kids loved it. Natalya had so much fun. She'd get down the end of the hill and say, "Again."
