June Update

Well I have found that not having a job during the summer is not so boring after all! I have kept very busy (including sleeping in most mornings). I am getting caught up on scrapbooking (BLAH!), putting together my high school class reunion and all sorts of stuff in Etown. We got back from vacation at the beginning of June and then I had to say good-bye to my husband who I lost to the University of Utah’s Research Department.

For those of you that don’t know, Colten got accepted to a summer research program through the American Heart Association. He was assigned to the Yost Lab at the University of Utah’s School of Medicine. He has finished 4 weeks of a 10 week internship and loves every minute of it. He is working with zebra fish on how the heart develops. If you want more details, you’ll have to ask him because he would love to tell you about it and it is way too far over my head to tell you anything. The best part about it is… he gets paid! (He finally has a job.) We also think that his has to be great for our medical school chances. But it sure does bite being apart from him.

Here are some pictures of him at the U.

I also had knee surgery on June 8th. I have been having troubles with my left knee (the one I tore first in high school). It didn’t straighten like it should and I was getting to the point where running was just really painful. Come to find out, I had torn the lateral meniscus, damaged the patella (knee cap) and had overgrown scar tissue on the notch. It has been 3 weeks and I am feeling pretty good. Hopefully at 6 weeks I am up and moving like I used to.
I spent last week up in SLC with Colten. We went for a short walk through a place in downtown Salt Lake called, The Glen. It is a little park that is built around a natural stream. Here are a few pics from that.

Colten and our niece Abby looking at the baby bird.

Going on a 4-wheeler ride up to Aspen Park. Colten just put a handful of seeds in his mouth.

We went to The Olive Garden yesterday for my 24th Birthday. It was yummy. Colt is married to an old lady now. :)
