On my own... not...

Okay, just a quick post.

I just got back from Esplanade Theatre. I caught Les Miserables together with fellow museum volunteer Gen.

Uhm, I wasn't really that decided to catch the musical. I'm not sure why. If it were The Book of Mormon or maybe Miss Saigon, I would have really been eager to see it.

But then again, I guess this is one of those shows that is sure to be included in any Musicals to Watch Before You Die list. Hehe!

Sooo, I decided to catch it. I didn't really invite anyone because I bought the cheapest ticket. Haha! Like I said, I wasn't too keen to catch the show. I was set to watch the musical ON MY OWN. Haha! But then, my fellow museum volunteer Gen joined me because she wanted to catch the show a second time. That's how much she loved it. I warned her that I was getting the most affordable ticket and she was okay with it.

I must say that it was a good production. Before Singapore, I only watched productions in Manila. I loved, loved, loved the shows in Manila because the cast can really sing. But of course, there's also a part of me that wants to see a grand stage design, elaborate costumes, theatres built for musicals. These things, I got to see in Singapore.

Broadway is still waiting though. I still have 4 more years before my US visa expires. I hope to be able to use that and catch shows in New York!!!!

Anyway, this is it for tonight! I'm sleepy...

Friday night with the Phantom...

What was supposed to be a quiet Friday night at the library preparing for my museum guiding activity today suddenly became a night with friends at the theatre.

Phantom of the Opera is running at the Marina Bay Sands Theatre until tomorrow, 1 September.

I was really planning to watch the classic musical, but I ran out of tix because I kept on delaying the purchase.

Thankfully, I don't feel for Phantom the same way I feel for Wicked. LOL! However, I still did want to see the musical because who knows when it will be staged again.

That is why I got all excited when the iMessage from Tipz popped up on my phone screen yesterday afternoon.

I immediately replied to him to say that I super wanted the tix. Haha!

He told me that his friend who was really supposed to go with him didn't make her flight to Singapore. Hence, the spare ticket... and that he was willing to let it go an el cheapo price. Yay!

Tipz got the $168 tix with restricted view. I wasn't sure where that category would be seated but I didn't care because I was going to watch the musical. Haha!

Having said this, I was really pleasantly surprised that we were seated a few rows close to the stage. By close, I mean the third row I think. I was glad for this because we got to see the Phantom, Christine and Raoul up close.

It made the experience so much better.

Quite an enjoyable show. The set, oh my god, the set! And the costumes, oh my god, the costumes! Haha! Even with the restricted view, I think the tix Tipz got was super worth it.

Thanks again, Tipz!

Next time you have another spare ticket for a great musical... music please...

Think of me... think of me fondly... Lol!

Jersey Boys night...

Catching Jersey Boys tonight at the Marina Bay Sands.

Hmm, I'm not too familiar with the story and I dunno much about the songs. I just read that popular classics such as Can't Take My Eyes Off You and Big Girls Don't Cry are to be expected from the show. Hehe!

I hope it wouldn't be a bore though.

Speaking of musicals, I recently got myself the soundtrack of The Book of Mormon. It's good. It's really good. No wonder it won the Best Musical at the 2011 Tony Awards. Some of the songs are bordering on blasphemous though. Hehe! It makes me wonder how the Church of Latter-Day Saints reacted to the musical.

I hope some production company in SG or Manila will stage it. I would definitely want to catch. Or maybe I can catch in the US and finally use the US visa I have? LOL! Hehe!

Anyway, happy Friday.

Company the musical on a Friday night...

PG Boy and I, along with another friend, managed to catch the local adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's musical Company yesterday night at the National Library Drama Centre.

My friend Ivan was part of the cast and I did tell him I planned to watch. Thanks to Ivan, we were able to get really good seats at a really good price. Yay!

Company revolves around thirty-something single urbanite Bobby who is surrounded by a group of married friends. Throughout the musical, Bobby's friends talk to him about the ups and downs, the good, the bad about being single and being married.

The lead character in the Singapore production is played by Peter Ong (who's from Penang. WoohoO!). It's my first time to see him perform and he is good.

Overall, I really enjoyed the show. I loved how it was sort of localized. I may not be Singaporean, but having lived here for almost two years now, I actually enjoyed that Hossan Leong and his Dream World Productions made the musical more relevant to the local audience. Hehe!

Company won SEVEN Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Really glad to have been able to catch the last performance.

A Chorus Line later...

Surprised Pg Boy with tix to A Chorus Line. Was supposed to watch it by myself before the show ends tomorrow.

But then I decided that instead of getting the more expensive ticket, I should just get the category where I can get two tix for the same price I intended to pay originally for the ex ticket. Hehe!

I tried to be creative with the invite to Pg Boy by making the e-invite above. Hehe. It took him awhile to see that it was him I placed in the middle of the photo because the image was only sent through iPhone. Hehe!

Hope the show is okay.

Spring Awakening is coming...

Spring Awakening will be in Singapore!!!

Woohoo!

On one of my recent visits to the National Library, I saw a banner for the hit musical. It will be staged at the Drama Center Theater of the National Library and will run from 3 - 26 February 2012.

I was able to watch the Manila production, and I absolutely loved the show - the cast, the story and of course, the songs. I'm really excited to see how Singapore will stage the show. I'm also looking forward to seeing Adrian Pang in the flesh. Wooohoo!

Also, I think the lead female character Wendla Bergmann is played by a Filipina - Julia Abueva. Meanwhile, the lead male character Melchior Gabor is played by Nathan Hartono.

In case you're in Singapore and you're interested to watch it, you can get your tickets here.
