Wall Hanging Project

Hello Angie here to share with you a fun little project I created using the August Main Kit.  To create this project I used the papers and sticker sheet.  I cut the cute little designs out on my Cameo and also the words.  I had the frames from a long time ago.

Here is the full image:

6x6 Paper Pad Play with Sam

Hello there! It's Sam today to share one of the fun (yet super easy) way to use your 6x6 paper pad that came with your Pocket Life kit.

Guess what? All you have to do is:
1. Tear a few pieces of 6x6 papers from the paper pad (this is easy as all the papers are coordinated)
2. Crush, tear and distress them to create texture (don't even need foam dots to pop it up)
3. Layer them on a piece of cardstock
4. Once you are happy with the arrangement of the papers, apply adhesive but you don't need much to glue the papers because you want them to look like they just lay on the card stock randomly.
5. Add photos, embellishments and stamping.
6. Ta-dah! A layout that has a lot of textures and patterns, plus a tiny bit of mixed media.

Rockstar-1

Love love these exclusive wood veneers in August kits. I painted it with Prima Chalk inks to match the color of my baby's bumbo seat. Painting the wood veneers in coordinating colors is one of my favorite ways of using wood veneers.
p.s. Everything in the layout from the August kit, except the stamp on the photo.

Rockstar-2

Tips: Add some twine (that come with the packaging of the monthly kit) and some white thread under the photo or cluster of embellishment would add more textures to the layout. I also white-washed the 'ampersand' sticker with Distress Paint in picket fence (white) to tone down the black color.

Rockstar-3

White washing the basic grey alphabet stickers too. And addes a splash of blue & teal color to the background with distress stains.  Oh by the way, the title is inspired by my baby's starry pants and the photo was taken before we had a scrapbooking crop at home. Love how the star stickers in the kit matched with his pants so well.

I hope you have fun making a quick layout using the tips above. I did mine under an hour ;) Thanks for looking and have a great day ahead!

Tuesday Tutorial with Amélie

Hi, here is Amélie and today, I will share with you a new tutorial. I will show you how to make "wave papers".
It's very simple and gives a very cool look to your layout. To begin cut two part of paper. One part on white cardstock is for templates.

tuto1

For information my papers are 14X16.5 centimeters.

You can easily do it on your definitive paper if you want, but here, I prefer to take some precautions and then after I could keep blanks for other creations.
Then draw with your pencil some waves lines like this:

tuto2

Cut the white paper on lines and place the "waves" on the other paper. Draw the lines and cut.

tuto3

After it you just have to stick them on your background paper.
tuto4

Now here is my layout with some details:

For this layout, I used Main and Embellie kits.
On this day, we had celebrated our 10 years wedding at the other side of the world!

Only the orange vintage brad comes from my stash. The "Awesome" banner is made with the stencil of the July kit.
Have a good day! Amélie

Simple Strategies

Hi, Gina here today, sharing a few ideas I've played with when creating this layout. I've used the main "On the Go" kit, "Orange Crush" Embellie kit and the August stamp add-on, along with a few buttons from my stash.

To start with I've added contrast by cutting an even amount off each side of the 12x12 background paper and placing a dark cardstock behind. This also helps to "pick up" the greys in the layout.

IMG_0041

I've also inked up these exclusive arrow wood veneers with a couple of Prima chalk inks to give them a weathered timber look to match my photo. I've covered the veneers completely with  "Old Road" from an earlier kit and then dabbed a little "Pastel Green" ink from this month's kit. I love how these veneers are soft and thin enough to machine stitch through.

IMG_0037

Another tip is to adapt a sticker, like the one on the right hand side, so that you can turn the ends up slightly to add dimension. To do this I backed the sticker with some plain copy paper first, then attached with some double sided tape, gently curly the points upwards to sit slightly off the page.

Thanks so much for visiting and happy scrapping!

As you can see I adapted it a little bit. For this layout, I principally used the main kit. Only the arrows washi tape comes from the Embellie kit. The enamels dots come from a previous kit.
I hope you will like it. See you soon. Amélie

Card Day

Here is another card day!  We are sharing cards we made with the August Citrus Twist Kits.

Gina here sharing a card using the "On the Go" main kit. I've layered some papers, a library pockets and stickers. The wood veneer has been colored with the pastel green ink also found in the kit.

Pocket Life Friday with Jen

Happy Friday! I'm sharing week 25 of my Pocket Life album here today, using the beautiful August PL and Embellishment kits:

Jen_AugPLSpread2

For this week, I chose to use the light blues, aqua, yellows and oranges in the kits to pull together my Greek vacation photos - the cool of the ocean and the warmth of time with family and our excursions. This was our last week of vacation and bittersweet as we said goodbye to loved ones and our favorite place for a year or more. There are so many incredible detailed bits in this month's PL kit - the exclusive cards, grey and white washi, Star & Bee wood veneer hearts and the Queen & Co. Goosebumps were among my favorites.

Jen_AugPLDetail6

I enjoy combining my kits with a few digital elements and Silhouette cuts which you can see best on this first page. The date card was created digitally from a number of elements on my hard drive then highlighted by alphabet and accent stickers included in the PL kit. The teal double heart, hello arrow and quote card cuts were made with my Silhouette.

The "This is where I want to be" card about sums up this spread. Already missing our time in Greece and so happy to have had such wonderful memories to document.

Be Inspired With Sandy

Hi it's Sandy with my "Daily Travels" page about a day out at Gardens by the Bay, a park created on 100 hectares of land reclaimed at the southern tip of Singapore. I pick four scenic pictures, to show off various picturesque aspects of the park. The inspiration for arranging them within a grid format and pairing them with Basic Grey's Carte Postale products come from April's Lennon layout.

a4

I mimic April's use of a  cut-apart sheet with a map print paper from the Main Kit. Since three of my photos capture curving pathways, I take advantage of the river flowing through a city pattern to tie them together.  The grid format allows me to cut this paper apart and position the flow of the river to draw the eye from the title down through my pictures.

a4

With the center of attention being firmly focused on the photos and journaling in the middle grid, I leave the rest of the page relatively simple. Just brown check borders embellish with phrase stickers from the Project Life Kit and a subtitle printed on wood grain paper from the Add-On Kit.

6x6 Paper Pad Play with Melissa

Good morning to all of our Citrus Twist fans, and a very happy Wednesday to you all!

With kids (or, in cases like mine, spouses) heading back to school this month, it can be a busy time! If you're a little short on time for scrapbooking and need a quick and easy way to put together a layout that's still stylish, then I have just the post for you today.

This layout took about 45 minutes to complete from start to finish, and it's something that can easily be done in small steps if you have just 5 minutes here or there to be creative.

DSC_0029.jpg

I started this page with two photos and a white cardstock background. White cardstock is my go-to when I'm pressed for scrapbooking time since it takes one of the major design decisions (the background paper) off the table right away, and you can substitute in kraft, gray, or whatever color is your own personal favorite background.

Next, I pulled out the 6x6 paper pad from the August Pocket Life kit along with the off-cuts that were left from a few sheets that I used on my weekly layout this month. I'm always left with lots of 2" x 6" strips after filling pockets in my album! I quickly flipped through the paper pad and pulled out any papers that worked with my photos, focusing mostly on color, but also making sure I pulled in a variety of patterns. Then I started layering the pieces together using a combination of the off-cuts along with freshly cut pieces from the 6x6 papers I'd just selected. When I'm using a 6x6 pad for layering like this, I rarely measure as I cut. I just chop off a chunk of one side of a sheet, leaving one 6" edge intact. It's fast and easy, and it works!

To finish off the layout, add a title, some coordinating paper strips across the top and bottom, and then embellish along the diagonal of the page to lead the viewer's eye across your photos. I always finish my pages off with a bit of stitching, too.

DSC_3319.jpg

If you're wondering where I got the brown letter stickers from, I actually recolored the light blue alphas in the main kit to match my page! Alcohol markers such as Copics or Bic Mark-Its work perfectly for this since they blend as you go and leave a nice, even tone instead of the splotchy look that I normally get with regular markers.

DSC_3321.jpg

I tucked my journaling for this page into one of the Basic Grey pockets that was included in this month's Main kit, letting the pocket serve as a layer as well as a place to hold my writing. I admit, though, that it's really strange for me to look at this page and not see any writing front and center!

The next time you're feeling creative but only have a few minutes to spare, try this fast and simple formula for a layout!

Tuesday Tutorial

Hi!  Michelle here sharing a lo I created using only August's main kit and my sewing machine.  For me, sewing is my go-to technique.  Machine or hand stitching can transform any project and my layouts do not often feel complete without it.  Sewing can instantly give any project a comfy, homespun feel or a shabby, vintage look.  Stitching also acts as an anchor, visually "holding" your paper or embellies down.
Most of the time sewing is my last task, but occasionally my stitching needs to come somewhere in the middle of the creating process and this usually takes a little bit of thought before hand.
As I planned out this lo, I knew I wanted to create a grid design using the 3 Instagrams and a square for my title.
Tutorial

After laying down my photos and papers, I had to decide what I was going to do for the title and how I wanted to draw attention to it.  I finally decided upon using the October Afternoon "See the World" sticker because of its size as well as its color. I felt that the green, a color that is nowhere else on the lo, would draw the eye quickly.  To further emphasize the title, as well as re-enforce the theme of travel/movement, I decided I wanted to sew a circle around it.
Prior to sewing anything beyond a line on my paper, I always draw out the shape I want in pencil.  Now for me, this does not insure that I am going to precisely follow the line, but it does keep me in the ballpark (it helps, that I do not expect perfection!)  For a circle I always use some item near me.  It can be a bowl, a cup, or in this case a spool of glitter tape.
Tutorial 2

Now I very, rarely sew just one circle.  I usually go for 2 or 3 because it will usually mask any imperfections in the circle. I also do not "lock" or backstitch on my paper projects. Instead, prior to cutting threads, I tape my ends down on the back of the cardstock to keep it from unraveling. I almost always use a washi that sticks well. I have used a little spot of glue before, but that means you have to wait a while to dry before you can continue. Double sided tape is also another option.
Tutorial 3

Now with my title space created, I adhered my sticker with pop dots and added the wood veneer chevrons to the circle.
See the World 2

And a look at the final project....

Thanks so much for stopping by today and please feel free to ask any sewing questions--I would be super happy to answer them!

Simple Strategies- Summer Favorites mini album

Hi, welcome on Monday! It's Kasia here and I would like to share with you some simple techniques for putting a quick mini book together. Today's album is based on paper elements- no mess, no paints, no medias, just paper, stickers and some happy tape:) Thanks to preparing all the elements beforehand you can finish this mini really quickly! I decided to make a small book where I could highlight some of my summer favorite things and include photos which probably wouldn't get scrapped otherwise. You can also follow this steps to prepare a cute mini to insert in your Pocket Life page protectors- just make sure to cut your base to right size!

mini tutorial 1

First, prepare your supplies- I collected some papers and embellishments from August embellie add on kit, Pocket Life kit and Patterned Paper Add On kit. I also grabbed my tools and base which I cut from white cardstock (if you need some extra cardstock you can always order it with your kits from our online store!).

mini tutorial 1a

Before I start playing with building my mini album I also cut some basic shapes with my cameo (like arrows, speech bubbles etc), I cut all the labels and some decorative elements from patterned paper sheets which I think I might want to use later. I cut few of the patterned papers into rectangles and longer strips so it'll be easy for em to grab them when I want to build some layers in the mini book.

mini tutorial 2

I choose 1 paper as a leading motive for my album and place it on every page. It helps to keep the mini book look cohesive later on.

mini tutorial 4
mini tutorial 3

Then I grab washi tape from my stash and play with scraps of precut paper, I arrange them around the photos setting some basic layers. Washi tape holds it all in place until I decide that I'm happy with the overall look and I'm ready to glue everything down.
mini tutorial 5

Here are the pages with glued layers and photographs.

mini tutorial 6

mini tutorial 7

I join the pages together with some washi tape, I think it's the simplest technique to connect pages in mini book. Remember to leave a tiny bit of space between pages so you will be able to flip them later on. Once all the pages are joined together I secure the top of my book with some extra washi tape.

mini tutorial 9

mini tutorial 8

mini tutorial 10

The best part is of course adding all the cute embellishment and little details! I love using stickers in my minis, I often cut them into smaller pieces so they match the size of the album. At this step I usually add my journaling and all the tiny bits and pieces.

mini tutorial 11

After embellishing the book I add some stamps. In this book I used stamps from Pocket Life kit and the stamp add on kit.

mini tutorial 12

I finish my mini by attaching and embellishing the covers. Below you can have a look at all the finished pages of my Summer Favorites mini!

Making a book like this is a great idea to make good use of all the scraps which you have left after working with your monthly kits. You can think of mini albums which would highlight your favorite things, visited places, tasted food, summer activities - there are so many possibilities! We would be delighted to see your projects popping up in our gallery this month!
