Some stereoscopic images I made from pictures I took at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh, PA. The best dinosaur exhibit I've ever seen; no question. I highly recommend everyone go there! Took these photos with my Canon Powershot SD980 IS (see sidebar).

Spring Bulb Flowers
Thought I would add a post on what some of those early spring bulbs look like once they flower! As always this is the awesome macro setting on my digital camera, the Canon Powershot SD980 IS. Here's the article on identifying early spring bulbs when they just start shooting out of the ground. Here we have tulips, hyacinth, crocuses, day lilly, bearded iris, squill, and three types of daffodils (the day lilly and Iris are from last year since they are not yet blooming!). As usual, the super awesome resolution on the macro setting for this camera is greater than what I can upload here, so just know that these photos can be zoomed in significantly more and still be super sharp! See more macro photos here.

Como Zoo Orchid Show
I went to the Orchid Show at the Como Zoo this past weekend, and was quite amazed by the number and variety of orchids, and thought I'd share. I was quite happy with how well my camera's macro setting was working indoors and under rather adverse conditions.

Canon Powershot SD980 IS: Goes to Florida
I was recently in Florida with my camera, and here are some of my favorite photos from the trip. I love the versatility of the camera; it works well for super close (best), medium distances, and is even ok for landscapes.
This last photo is for all you people who, back in 1969, doubted we ever really landed on Cape Canaveral (also it was taken out a moving bus window).
This is the camera I use. More photos (various) here.

More Canon Powershot SD980 IS Macro photos
I really like the macro setting on this camera. Here are a few more flowers. I've included the whole photos, and then also a smaller portion of the photo so that you can see the full extent of the macro image since I cannot upload the full quality images (click on the images for a larger version). If you are in the business of taking pictures of very small things, I highly recommend this camera. More macro pictures here.

Canon Powershot SD980 IS Macro Photos: Phalaenopsis Orchids
bout half (if not more) of the photos posted on this blog involve the macro setting on my digital camera. The first digital camera I had was a Canon Powershot SD600, which had a rockin' macro mode. When I upgraded to a Powershot SD980IS, the macro function improved as well. This is by far my favorite thing about these cameras. There is nothing too small for them to take amazing pictures of, and it's incredibly helpful when my art doings involve predominantly things that are less than a square foot. I use this setting for any time I'm within a foot or two of the object I'm trying to shoot (or an inch or two). Of course, as with any photo, they turn out best in full sunlight. As an example, here are two phalaenopsis (moth) orchids (my IKEA orchid and my new Whole Foods orchid). The second photo is a zoomed in version. More macro photos here.
