3rd week

Body is aching all over!

It's the 3rd week already! Next week will be the last week, and then a few more days and PTP phase will be over for me insyaAllah.

This week, to sum it up, I think I've done nearly 200 push ups (improper ones). Maybe more, I lost count. lawl. But by this week, I don't care doing all this. Push ups have already become like part of my day in life. Every end of the day, before sleep, I would try to remember back what I've done for the day and thought that it was a fun day. And the next day when I wake up and think of the training waiting ahead of me I will think it'll be a rough day today.

Bunk mates are fun. We got a joker, fighter, leader, a person to bully (ahah), stress reliever and so on.

My corporal have said during the first few days of the 2nd week that recruit days will be the best days of the entire 2 yrs of NS life, and the last few weeks of it will be the greatest. I can see the truth to his words already.

I'm still worried whether I could pass my IPPT test.

The instructors have been great. I guess it's because of the fasting month.

Next week we will have our vocation interviews, I think. This will decide in which vocation we will be for the rest of our NS life in SCDF. From the most sought after vocations like Emergency Response Specialist (ERS),Firefighter,Special Rescue Battalion (SRB), Medic and so on to the extremely sought after vocations like drivers, clerks, storeman, infocomm specialist blablabla.

Last Monday we had our Master Parade for Alpha Coy. All 3 platoons march off to the parade square, and stand there for the next 1/2 hr while our OC of Alpha Coy, our Captain (CPT) do uniform inspection on every single one of us. I think I can get a gist of how those people who are involve in Nday parade feels standing out there for nearly an hour. Standing still in 'sedia' postion.

Footdrill is fun and tiring. Footdrill in laymen terms would be learning to march. It's fun when all 32 people in your platoon synchonise together. It's tiring when the CPLs are not satisfied and make us do it again and again...and again. For the good of us of course.

I heard next week, our platoon will be on the weekend guard duty. And the list of names seems to fall on my name! This means I would probably be booking out on Saturday!!! or maybe later!!! noooooo

PT

just some random things you could probably hear during out phy training.

Physical trainings are conducted by the PTI(Phys Traing Instr):

"Before I start my lesson, anybody not feeling well today?"
"NO PTI!!"
"Any hard objects?"
"NO PTI!!"
"Double check!"

then if there's any one of us have anything in their pockets

"Nevermind, one of your friend bring something, whole lot half right down!!" (ie:push up position) "Gve me <insert numbers in 10s>"

den before starting the push ups

"PERMISSION TO CARRY ON PTI!!"

"carry on!"

"THANK YOU PTI!! DOWN!! 1!! DOWN!! 2!!...." until finish den before we can stand up "PERMISSION TO RECOVER PTI!!"

"whole lot recover"

"THANK YOU PTI!!!"

we cannot adjust ourselves (ie:wipe sweat, adjust out shirt, wipe off any dust on our clothes, etc) without the PTI permission, if there's any...

"Your friend wants to adjust, whole lot half right down" and the cycle repeat as above.

so if we want to adjust, any one of us must take the initiative to ask for permission, for the whole lot

"PERMISSION TO ADJUST PTI!!"

"whole lot adjust"

"THANK YOU PTI!!"

Imagine this things happens before any of the planned exercise were conducted.

Thus some of the things you can hear during our PT lesson.

ergh, sore throat...too much shouting when my throat is dry i guess...

2nd week

Thus the training starts. What they call light training, they didn't meant on it's intensity, it was the frequency of the training. Starting next week, The real deal will finally start. Endurance training every single day, 2 hour slot (with break of course), push ups (the dreaded 'half right down'), weekend extras for those who commit an offence (weekend guard duty) and more push ups.

Last Sunday I book in late! Hahaha. My NSIC was confiscated by the provost (like Military Police). But I got it back just before booking out just now.

The instructors sure knows how to deal with our mood. One hour they scold us like dogs, punishing in various method, then another hour they are like our best buddies. One time, we were given the privilege to go to the canteen. What so great about that? We can buy ice creams, ice milo, ice tea and many other sorts of food and beverages that beats the free foods we get for our meals at the cookhouse. The meals are delicious though but it has become part of the routine, we're happy to have a change of diet.

I'm sure the whole battalion look forwards to talks and lecture slots since all we do is sit inside the airconditioned hall. So we take the talks as our rest.

Yesterday, there was an evening run around the BRTC compound. 3 rounds. Just before 'buka'. It was fun I tell you. Because we run as a platoon/company together and we sing song. The songs are mostly made up by them and the lyrics are quite vulgar with dirty jokes but that's what made it fun.

As I've said, the real deal starts next week. No choice, go through with it. 2 weeks plus left (Planned end is 10 Oct). Just let it pass day by day. Looking forward to Hari Raya!

1st week

Back from camp!

Alpha Coy Platoon 1 Register Number...eheh, cannot say, later if any officer or instructor came upon this he will know exactly who I am. Mascot 'Viper'. Coy is short for Company by the way.

So life in SCDF camp as a recruit for the first week is well...I would say best in a way. If you minus off the scoldings from the instructors. It's not that they scold us for fun though, it's because either we make a mistake or we misbehave. They are friendly mind you, so I personally have no grudge on them.

1st week, not much physical training. But that doesn't mean no physical activities. Most of the time we attend lectures. And when you have to attend lectures after you slept at 10.30pm and you have to wake up at 4.30(3.30am for sahur days), it's tough work trying to stay awake. Especially when the speakers are the Captains rank or there was once, the Commander of the Training Centre.

I have no problems with the physical activities, puncuality and showing respect but one thing I hate most is bunk cleaning and it's inspection by the instructors. We share our bunks, 14 people in my bunk. What we have to do in our free time is to clean our bunk, spark clean, no dirt whatsoever, no even a speck, all the floors free from anything, all beds neat and tidy, no wrinkle on the bedsheet, the pillow. All must be standardized, meaning if for example my boots is on the underneath of the right side of the bed, all the other 13 must be on the same side. Every single detailSSSSS are take note of. Since it's the first week the instructors would at most verbally teach us what's wrong with our bunk but starting next week, it seems that for every mistake, it's 20 pushups...probably at least. So imagine 10 mistakes...that's 10 x 20 pushups=200 pushups. Uhuh. It's easy for them to spot at least 10 mistakes. And it's VERYVERYVERYVERYVERY HARDD to meet their standard.

Oh yeah, although my camp is just beside the cemetary, it's very easy to forget that you;re next to it. Personally for me it's not such a big deal anyway. Maybe not until I do my guard duty. ahah.

All in all, so far so good. Next week thereafter, I would probably not book out in one of the week because of guard duty. That is to guard the training centre, do patrols for (EDIT)12 hours...

So bye for now and maybe brb next friday.

Happy Fasting to us.

The hour is near.

I will embark on a journey that will change my whole life. A life that I could never imagine. A journey that will also change myself both physically and mentally. (Probably spiritually too)

My limits will be tested and surpass. (I'm planning to overcome my limits!)

This will change a boy to a man! (What kind of man though, is all up to me.)

Now go forth h3rman! Protect the civilians of Singapore! Become their defender! Become..!!

A Civil Defender!! *cue explosive background music*

----------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------

yeah...it's tomorrow. Everything all packed...I think. I'm not planning to bring my handphone to camp this week. I don't think I need to use it that often.

I managed to read up some blogs of previous enlistee of their experience in SCDF NS. Interesting I should say. Some posts just got me excited and some got me...speechless.

Anyway, I hope I can get through 7 months smoothly insyaAllah. That's the long term goal.

The short term goal is that this 4 weeks will end swiftly. Hurry up and finish my Physical Training Phase (PTP), pass my IPPT and get on with Emergency Response Specialist (ERS) course, insyaAllah.

wow, I can't believe I even planned out my NS life when I don't know what will happen. hahaha.

From today onwards, Sept 11 will be mark as the day I enlist into National Service, in my calender.

I'll update about it weekly if I get the chance.

brb this friday.

Tazkirah

Firman Allah SWT;
maka kamu dihidupkan, kemudian kamu dimatikan kemudian kamu dihidupkan kemudian kepada-Nya kamu dikembalikan"

(Surah Al-Baqarah : Ayat 28)

Adapun

Rasulullah SAW diriwayatkan masih mampu

Tanda 100 hari sebelum hari mati.

Tanda 40 hari sebelum hari mati

Tanda
ini juga akan berlaku sesudah waktu Asar. Bahagian pusat kita akan
berdenyut-denyut.

4 more days and counting.

I have not buy anything yet. I am in a poor fitness condition.

I can't believe it.

...

WOW I REALLY CANT BELIEVE THAT I AM GOING FOR MY NATIONAL SERVICE IN FOUR FREAKIN' DAYS!

This will be a great milestone in my life. Well, the other upcoming milestone would be enetering university, getting married and having my first child. InsyaAllah.

So, I would probably be out of Singapore lifestyle for 2 weeks max and after I book out, I'll probably have at least 2 days to enjoy before going back in. What a life!

Nervous, excited. Can't wait for it, hate it.

Welcome to Singapore Civil Defence Force, h3rman. Yeah, it'll be my job saving you guys.
