X-Files:  The Eerie Room

 

As a child K.K. lived in a small town about 70 km north of Kuala Lumpur. He lived with his family in a pre-war double storey shophouse. There were four rooms upstairs, two in front and two at the back. Now, for whatever reason, K.K. disliked the room on the left-hand side at the back. Well, you see, the room was unoccupied for as long as he could recall. It was dusty, stuffy and for whatever reason exceptionally dark and felt eerie. Every time when he walked past the room he tended to speed up and avoided looking inside even when his mom or some other adults were with him. On some days if he were to wake up and discover that everybody else had gone downstairs panic will set in because he had to walk past the room to get downstairs. He just hated it. Most of the time he yelled for his mom to come upstairs to accompany him downstairs.

One fine day after mustering enough courage he decided to take a peek into the room to see what it was that gave him the creeps. He was too scared to do it alone so he persuaded his childhood friend and neighbour, W.L.S to accompany him. W.L.S agreed to do so on one condition that K.K. bought him an ice-cream. So, the two of them, between anxiety and curiosity ventured into the room with K.K. holding on tight to W.L.S's hand to make sure he was not left alone after entering into unknown territory. There was an old dusty wooden bed that looked like it had not been slept in for ages. Then they proceeded to opening an old creaky cupboard with hinges that creaked as a result of not being oiled for umpteen years. Only some broken hangers were in the cupboard. They searched the drawers and found nothing of interest only some old story books were there. There were some cobwebs here and there other than that there was nothing that scared them. So they left the room and both of them breathed a sigh of relief.

So the next day, K.K decided to go upstairs alone to fetch a toy to play. He stayed with his mom and dad in the front right-hand room and as usual he needed to go past the eerie room but this time round he was not one bit worried or scared. As he approached the room a....... green gnarled finger with long curving fingernail appeared from behind the door beckoning him to enter the room. K.K. was stunned and stood transfixed to the spot and he couldn't move but he did manage to let out the loudest scream that could have broken glass if any were present then.

Just then his mom and other family members swarmed upstairs to see what the heck was happening. By then K.K was bawling like a baby and all he managed to do was to point at the finger which by now was no longer there.

From then on K.K never set foot in the room again.

K.S. has been driving a four-wheel drive for the last nine years. Last year an incident happened which defied explanation. It was in the afternoon, K.S. was about to drive out to fetch his son from school. Ever since his car door automatically locked by itself once, a week ago, he felt compelled to carry two sets of car keys just in case the door malfunctioned and locked him out of the car again. 

He remembered clearly holding two sets of car keys while locking the wooden front door of his double storey link house. Then he opened the car door and while standing next to his car he put his bunch of house keys together with the spare car keys into his left shorts pocket and the other set of car keys into the pocket on the right. Then he collected the mail from the mail box and left them on the dashboard. He proceeded to open the iron gate of his house and when he was about to get into his car he reached for the set of car keys in his right shorts pocket. 

Lo and behold the set of car keys was gone. It vanished into thin air!

The first thing he did was to check and see if the pocket had a hole in it. There was none. Then he checked the cement flooring, no keys were in sight. He looked under the car, nothing. He tried to recall to see if he heard anything dropped to the cement flooring while walking to the mailbox. He didn't hear anything. He even drove his car out onto the driveway and searched again for his missing car keys but they were nowhere to be seen. He even tried looking for the car keys inside the car near the driver's seat even though he hadn't entered the car earlier. He then went back into the house to look for the car keys but they were nowhere to be found.

So K.S. just left it at that and decided to get a new pair of spare keys but the new keys and the remote control totalled up to about RM300. That did put him off and he decided not to get a new pair after all and let matters rest.

One fine day about three months later while emptying a basket which was used for holding bottled drinking water beside the passenger front seat, he found the lost keys at the bottom of the basket. The keys looked old and the remote control badly scratched like someone had stepped on it but they were in working condition.

K.S. related the incident to his immediate family members. All but one came up with an explanation of sorts. It must have been divine intervention to delay him from going out at that particular moment to avert an unpleasant experience had he left the house there and then. Well, whatever the reason no one will ever know, only the force that caused it does.

In August 2012,  YY called back home from outstation to inform that he was sick. He had already consulted a doctor and had taken all the medicine prescribed. The fever had gone, but temporarily only. He would feel feverish again the next day. When YY called, his fever had already been on and off for the sixth day running. On top of that he could feel that his body was warmer than usual and that something was amiss.

His dad consulted a medium immediately and was told that a female spirit was behind all of YY's problem. He was told to pray at the roadside that evening facing the south-east direction, with a bowl of overnight rice, a cup of water, three joss-sticks and a pair of red candles, paper clothing and paper money to send off the female spirit bugging YY.  His dad prayed at 7:00 P.M. sharp as instructed. At about 8:00, YY  called to inform that he felt much better. 

A few days later when YY had fully recovered he recounted to his family what happened. The incident happened during the Chinese seventh month. YY was on the afternoon shift and thus he walked back to his apartment around 11:00 P.M. at night. Since it was the Chinese seventh month, many people were offering prayers at the roadside and burning paper clothing and paper money as offerings to the wandering spirits. It was a windy night and ashes from the burning of paper clothing and paper money were flying around. YY could not avoid the flying ashes as he wanted to get back to his apartment fast after a hard day's work. That was when he was 'hit', so to speak.

Thus, YY had a head-on encounter with a female wandering spirit that night causing him to suffer a prolonged fever that came and went and never really went away until after prayers and offerings were made to appease that particular female spirit.

X-Files : Ah Onn And The Jinxed Shoes

Ah Onn bought a pair of branded genuine leather shoes from a roadside vendor peddling second-hand goods from questionable sources. The shoes looked brand new and Ah Onn thought it was a very good bargain at RM100 whereas a new pair at the shop is being retailed at RM1,000.  It was raining heavily when he was about to reach home. Luckily,  before he went out he brought along an umbrella. Not wanting his foster mother, Ah Soh, who happened to be at the door to see his purchase, Ah Onn used the umbrella to block the pair of shoes as he walked into the house and straight into his own room.

He was over the moon and spent the night polishing his pair of new shoes and placed it at the foot of his cupboard before he went to bed. That night, Ah Soh saw the back view of a lady in white with long flowing hair walking into Ah Onn's room. Ah Soh did not want to intrude but then she felt uneasy because she smelt something malodorous, like rotting flesh in the house.

The next morning, Ah Soh could not tolerate the stench anymore, so she questioned Ah Onn but he denied involvement with any woman but he did tell his foster mother about his newly bought shoes. Ah Soh nearly puked when Ah Onn showed his shoes to her because the shoes were emitting a horrible stench! Well, you see, all this while Ah Onn couldn't detect the foul odour because he is spiritually not sensitive whereas his foster mother is.

Ah Soh is psychic and has the"third eye". She then consulted a deity at a nearby temple and soon discovered that the pair of shoes belonged to a man who was involved in a fatal traffic accident together with his wife. The pair of shoes were a gift from his wife to him. Now that his shoes were removed from him at the morgue and sold to a stranger as in Ah Onn, she was upset and wanted to reclaim the pair of shoes on behalf of her dear husband. 

Ah Onn was obstinate. He did not believe a single word that Ah Soh said and refused to part with his shoes. So, Ah Soh saw the "lady" a few more times in the next few days and had to put up with the revolting stench of decaying flesh until she finally put her foot down and insisted that Ah Onn got rid of the shoes or else. Ah Onn finally relented. The deity at the temple gave specific instructions to conduct a send-off ceremony at a T-junction by burning joss-sticks, candles, praying paraphernalia, chanting of prayers and last but not least the shoes needed to be burnt to crisp as well.

The situation was back to normal once the shoes were disposed off.

Note: The Chinese believe that ghosts can enter homes by hiding in umbrellas. So the next time when you come back home, make sure to leave your umbrellas outside your homes.

The three storey detached house looks majestic, perched atop a hill and built amid lush greenery. The proud owner, SH, spared no cost to ensure that only the best materials were used to build his new home. When it was ready for occupation he threw a house-warming party and invited his relatives, friends and associates for a poolside barbecue party. Soon after the house-warming party SH's son and daughter-in-law shifted into the new house.

Both the son, Tom and his wife, Susan have their respective jobs. They were hardly at home during weekdays and were at home only during the evenings and nights. On weekends, Tom and Susan are fond of inviting their friends over for swimming, games, barbecue or parties. Most often their friends stayed over the weekends.

The young couple were energetic and continued with their lifestyle. Their parties sometimes lasted till the wee hours of the morning. Then strange things started to happen. A tap in the master bedroom began turning on by itself after it had been turned off. Each time the tap flowed, Tom, Susan or their maid, Maria,would turn it off. This happened again and again until they got fed up and hired a plumber to change to a new one. Well, the new tap kept turning itself on every time someone turned it off like as if it had a mind of its own. In addition to the flowing tap, Maria, who was alone in the big bungalow most of the time, began to hear strange sounds.  It reached a point where she threatened to quit because she was too scared to stay in the large house anymore.

Tom discussed the matter with his father and they consulted a medium. And it was confirmed that the big house has an unseen occupant and that she would not budge despite being offered by the medium to do so. She was unhappy that she no longer enjoyed peace as a result of all the partying and that her space (i.e. the master bedroom had been taken over by the young couple) thus she played pranks to show her presence. However, she was willing to compromise! The owner, SH , Tom and Susan could continue to stay but on the condition that a certain room which she has chosen is to be kept locked and undisturbed, just for her alone!

After some prayers and rituals, things went back to normal. Tom, Susan and Maria kept their distance from that special room. So all the occupants, humans and spirit co-existed together under one roof.

Mei and her family have just shifted into their new house where there is a large playing field in front of their house. Having stayed in an apartment previously, Mei considered it a luxury to have the house facing a large field where children have the freedom to play and romp in the field. Being an active teenager, Mei set out to play in the field that very first evening. She particularly likes a shady spot under a cluster of trees which is situated at one corner of the field.

That night Mei did not sleep well, she tossed and turned in bed. She felt being weighted down by something or someone very heavy but was powerless to move or shift the weight away. Then she felt someone touching her. She screamed out loud for help but no sound came out of her mouth. The ordeal lasted for several minutes, and then, all of a sudden it stopped. Mei related the incident to her mother the next morning. Together, Mei and her mother consulted a medium at a temple.

They were told that Mei had offended the spirit of a spider while playing under the trees in the field in front of their new house. The medium chanted some prayers and did some rituals and gave her a talisman to ward off evil. He further told Mei to sweep away all the cobwebs from her room. After the prayers, Mei went home and did as instructed. All was well again for Mei.

Just imagine that! Mei and her family have just shifted into their new house, so how could cobwebs have sprung up overnight ?

I'm very certain that Mei will not venture near to the cluster of trees in that field again!

This happened when TLG was about to sit for his HSC examinations in 1976. In school, many of his friends talked about getting divine blessings from deities as an assurance to pass their examinations. So he told his mum about what his friends and their families had done to seek divine intervention. Sensing his insecurities, his mum took him to The "Loong Mou" Temple in Klang.  "Loong Mou" means Dragon Mother or The Dragon Goddess.

Upon their request, the medium went into a trance and soon his mum conveyed to the medium the purpose of their visit. After a moment's contemplation, the medium told them that TLG would failed his HSC examinations. Upon hearing that TLG burst into tears. While he was crying and sobbing away, his mum proceeded to ask more questions. His mum consulted The Dragon Goddess as to whether his application to The Teachers Training College would be successful. The Dragon Goddess replied in the affirmative via the medium.

In his distraught state of mind he blurted out that he would rather pass his HSC examinations than to be successful in his application to The Teachers Training College. At that moment, TLG was too distraught to have realised that he was talking to The Dragon Goddess! No doubt it was via the medium who looked just like any other ordinary old lady. The medium replied, " If that is your wish, let me check if your request can be granted ".  The reply was a resounding yes.

His wish was granted!

Subsequently, TLG reapplied to The Teachers Training College twice. And twice his applications were rejected. While waiting for his results, he was hand-picked and highly recommended by his teacher with the full approval from the headmaster to be a temporary teacher in his former school. Even that application to be a temporary teacher was rejected.

Until today, TLG still wonder as to whether he had made the right decision to ask for an exchange!

Michelle is trusted by the boss of a large company. She works very hard and has served the company for many years. She is very knowledgeable and knows the ins and outs of how the company is run. Her boss suspected some irregularities in one of the branches and thus requested Michelle to investigate.

Michelle was transferred to the branch and soon settled down and adjusted to the daily operations of the branch. She observed the staff and the on-goings there. The person-in-charge of that branch, Anthony, was suspicious of Michelle's presence and was neither friendly nor co-operative. 

Michelle was undaunted by Anthony's attitude. She did the best she could while taking down notes of her observations and the discrepancies she had discovered. Meanwhile, Anthony grew more suspicious and was openly hostile towards Michelle. Michelle guessed that Anthony knew of her undercover assignment.

Late one evening, after a hard day's work at the office, Michelle went back to her apartment. After taking a shower, Michelle sat down on the bed, contemplating the day's events and planning for the next day when out of the blue she felt a very sharp and intense pain in her left calf. She screamed out in pain and managed to call security and was rushed to the hospital and the X-ray showed that her shin bone was broken and very badly fragmented. The doctor said the fracture was caused by trauma.

But Michelle was very puzzled as to how her shin bone could have been broken and suffered fragmentation. She was just sitting on the bed, motionless. She did not fall down and she wasn't doing any vigorous exercise either. Naturally her suspicion fell on Anthony and she was dead certain that he had resorted to using supernatural means to try to put a stop to her investigation.

Until today, Michelle has not found the cause of her fractured shin bone.

X-Files : That's My Watch You're Wearing

David likes to browse through flea markets looking for antiques at bargain prices. Odd bric-a-brac and cute ornaments are his other interests. He loves collecting beautiful objet d'art for decoration. He has a few cabinets at home to showcase the beautiful items he had bought from such places, not just here in Malaysia but also from distant countries as well, every time he travels overseas. David is very proud of his collections. He loves telling stories of how and where he had acquired each and every item.

On one of his frequent visits to the flea markets, a beautiful antique watch caught David's eye, and the price? Well, he nearly choked when he saw it, thinking that the stall owner must have made a mistake. When told that the price was what it said it was he immediately bought the watch without so much of a second thought. He showed off his watch to his family and friends. The watch became his favourite conversation piece. Soon, David noticed that he heard soft voices whenever he wore the watch. At first he did not pay much attention thinking that he must be tired or his imagination was playing tricks on him. But he made a point to observe and listen to what the 'voice' was trying to say. 

The voice was gruff and said, "You are wearing my watch. It's mine. Give it back to me"!  As far as David was concerned he bought the watch at the flea market and paid for it and that was it. But David was at a loss and was at his wits' end when the voice wouldn't leave him alone and kept demanding for the watch to be returned to it.

Then David thought of a plan. The next time he heard the "voice" again, David took off his watch, lay it down on the table and talked very calmly but clearly to the watch, " Look, I paid for  this watch. I bought this watch. I am the new owner now". David repeated the sentence twice. 

Well, it didn't work and not only that, he started getting terrifying nightmares after that. Finally, David came to his senses knowing full well that he could not keep the watch and not wanting anyone to suffer as he did he had decided to get rid of the jinxed watch once and for all. 

Near his home is a big meandering river with dark brown waters and he flung the antique watch into the far end of the river hoping it will stay at the bottom of the river forever.

Lesson learnt from this story - Beware of cheap and beautiful antiques they will bring you nothing but trouble.

X-Files : The Jinxed Belly Dancing Costume

Yvonne was very excited that she had been given the main role to perform in a belly dance in an up and coming event in town. She was busy looking up magazines and discussing with her friends and seamstresses for designs and patterns to make the best looking dress for the belly dance. Then she got a call from her belly dancing coach, Karen who informed her that she had found the perfect costume for her while she was in Turkey. The costume costs three hundred ringgit. Yvonne agreed to the purchase.

Yvonne and Karen were both happy to have found the perfect costume for Yvonne's performance.  But the costume was much too big for Yvonne and it had to be altered to make it smaller to suit her. So the ladies set about looking for a seamstress to do the alteration. They found Lily who agreed to make the required alteration for Yvonne. Measurements were taken and a time line was set for Lily to make the necessary adjustment in time for Yvonne's performance.

Then out of the blue and mysteriously, the three ladies fell sick, very sick. One by one, they soon recovered from their illnesses. Each time, when Lily wanted to alter the costume she felled sick again. One night, Karen had a dream. In her dream, she saw a beautiful lady wearing the same belly dancing costume which she had bought in Turkey. The lady was questioning Karen, Yvonne and Lily's intention to alter the size of the costume! Karen awoke in cold sweat!

The next day, Karen promptly related her dream to Yvonne and Lily. 

Ignoring the cost she had paid for the dress,Yvonne promptly aborted the plan to alter the costume. They unanimously agreed to source for another dress for Yvonne's performance. Strangely, everyone became well again once they left the costume alone. 

Nobody knew who that lady, the original owner of the costume was. But one thing was for sure, she could not be human!

X-Files : Tales of the Chinese 7th Month

X-Files : Tales of the Chinese 7th Month

 

The weird incidents below all happened during the Chinese seventh month which is the month of the hungry ghosts. 

Incident # 1

SK's colleague, LAK and his friends went fishing at a lake in a remote area near the fringe of the jungle. They had to bring their own food as there were miles away from the nearest civilisation. They bought a couple of steamed buns and left them in the car for dinner. 

Then they set up their fishing gear and soon were enjoying their favourite pastime and were engrossed in talking about everything under the sun. Hours passed and when they got hungry they went to the car to get their steamed buns. Well, they look everywhere, both inside and outside the car but the steamed buns were not to be found. The car was parked just beside them and no one came near them or to the car. 

Then one of them realised that it was the month of the hungry ghost and not taking any chances, the friends quickly packed up their fishing gear and hurriedly left before nightfall.

Incident # 2

One night during the Chinese seventh month my nephew, AL went out to the hawkers to buy a packet of wonton noodle for supper. He was walking back to the house with the packet of noodle, hanging by a raffia string on his fingers. When he reached the T-junction near his house, the raffia string snapped and the packet of noodle dropped with such a force that as it hit the ground, the noodle got smashed into pulp. There wasn't any reasonable explanation for the raffia string to snap and for the noodle to smash to the ground with such a force that it turned into pulp, as it was hanging by my nephew's fingers, barely two feet from the ground. It defied all physical laws and logic just could not explain it.

 

Incident # 3

My wet kitchen is situated right at the back of my house with the back door opening into the back lane which is big enough for people, cars and trucks to pass through. For convenience sake, I set up a small dining table in my wet kitchen so that the whole family could sit down to dinner right after cooking without having to walk a short distance to the main dining area.

One dark, rainy night while we sat down to dinner, my youngest son who was barely 3 years old then, looked up at me and said, " Mummy, your friend ". Without thinking I asked, "where"?  He looked towards the back door, meaning my friend was at the back door. For no apparent reason, my goose pimples raised and I felt very afraid and eerie. When I looked at the back door, no one was there. Luckily, SK and the two older children were oblivious to what transpired. They continued tucking in the food. Even though I was afraid I kept quiet. After a short while, I got up and closed the back door. 

I could only deduce that my youngest son saw a "lady" standing behind the gate next to the back door of my house looking in while we were having our dinner. My youngest son had assumed that the "lady" was my friend and thus informed me that my friend was standing there!

X-Files : The Unseen Singing Room-mate

GL studied in one of the universities in Singapore. She stayed in the hostel at the campus and shared a room with another student YW. The room had two separate sets of bed and furniture and the writing tables were placed in such a way that the students sat with their backs to each other.

When they had a pressing assignment, it was normal for students to be engrossed in rushing to complete their homework and paying no heed to their surroundings.

GL was engrossed with her assignment at her table on her side of the room. Suddenly she heard her room-mate bursting into a song. You know, at times youngsters love to irritate each other just for the fun of it. Without turning back, GL told her room-mate. " Oh, please stop singing that awful song in that off-key voice of yours!". Truly, on demand, the singing stopped immediately. Nothing scary about that, is there?

All was peaceful and quiet for several minutes. Then, all of a sudden, GL heard a key being inserted into the keyhole and the door to the room opened and her room-mate YW sauntered  in! GL was shocked and speechless, but not wanting to alarm her room-mate, YW , she kept it from her and related the incident to her only much later when they were no longer staying at the campus.

So who the heck had been singing off-key in the room?

X-Files : Who's That New Staff?

Ah Soo works as a cleaner in an large corporate office which occupies a few levels in a high-rise building. She knows almost everyone in the office and is on friendly terms with most of them.

Ah Soo does her job systematically. She usually starts from the topmost level and works her way down to the lower levels. On that fateful day of the incident, it was raining heavily outside. When she looked out the glass panes of the corporate office it was dark and gloomy even though it was only 3-00 P.M. in the afternoon. 

Ah Soo has been working in this office long enough to know which cubicle or table is occupied and which is vacant. When she opened the door to this particular room she came face to face with a new lady sitting in one of the tables which had been left vacant for some time. They looked directly into each other eyes and Ah Soo smiled in greeting to the newcomer. The newcomer was dressed in a chic red suit. 

Nothing untoward happened. All daily operations in the office went on smoothly. Ah Soo continued cleaning the office and as she moved from table to table, Ah Soo discreetly asked the other office staff whom she knew, who the lady in red was. Everyone that Ah Soo asked would either looked at her blankly not knowing what or who she was referring to or just shook their heads. When this went on with a few other people that she had approached, Ah Soo began to get goose pimples all over and felt very afraid. Ah Soo even asked fellow cleaners on other floors but nobody could tell her anything or the identity of the new staff. As far as everyone was concerned, there was no new staff and the place which Ah Soo had pointed out was not assigned to any staff at all. 

So who was the new lady wearing red?  Well, your guess is as good as mine!

X-Files : The Deadly Request

My son's tuition teacher related this incident which happened to one of her relatives. Let's call her relative Wendy. 

Wendy and her husband went for a holiday and they stayed in a hotel. Their sleep was disturbed by a knocking at their room door. They opened the door but did not see anybody. So they went back to sleep. Soon Wendy felt someone shaking her, trying to wake her. Wendy pretended to be asleep and kept her eyes tightly closed. And do you know what ? That insistent 'person' tried to pry open Wendy's eyes by stretching her eye lids open to get her attention! And she told Wendy, "I want you to help me to take revenge"!

Wendy was very scared. She pretended to be asleep but that 'person' knew she was awake and could see and hear her and that was when, left with no choice, Wendy started chanting Buddhist mantras silently and she kept at it until the 'person' went away. The very next morning she asked her husband whether he heard or felt anything the night before. Surprisingly, he slept like a log through the night. Dissatisfied and feeling something uncanny, Wendy removed the comforter and pull away the bed cover and saw a large patch of what she assumed to be, dried blood on the mattress on the spot where she was sleeping.

I salute Wendy  for her bravery throughout the whole horrifying incident.

X-Files : The Noisy Neighbour

 

Sharon rented an apartment near to her office. She has shifted her belongings into the apartment and had spent the whole day and night cleaning and arranging her things. She looked forward to a peaceful and quiet evening to relax in her newly rented apartment after a hard day's work. 

She was relaxing in the living room when she heard very loud noises and music coming from the apartment above her. The neighbours upstairs appeared to be dragging furniture around their apartment in addition to blasting loud music. It sounded like many people were there talking all at once. Sharon was annoyed that her peaceful relaxation was disturbed. So she went up to the apartment with the intention of talking to her new neighbours and to request them to tone down their noise and be more considerate. When she reached the door, she was surprised that the apartment was closed and in total darkness. The apartment appeared neglected and looked like nobody was staying there.   

Sharon went back to her own apartment. The more she thought about it the more afraid she became. So she packed a bag and went to stay for a couple of days at her friend's house. She started looking around for a new apartment to rent because she was afraid to go back there after the first night's incident.

My sister's friend, Sarah used to work as a seamstress in another town before she went back to her hometown to start her own business teaching others how to sew. Her sewing classes were always packed with young women looking forward to the sewing lessons. I used to tag along with my sister when she attended her sewing classes. It was in one of these sewing classes that Sarah related her scary experience to her group of eager learners.


As a seamstress, Sarah's wage was low. She and a few friends shared a rented room to save cost. As with most supernatural encounters, the incident most often happened at night when the victim was alone. Sarah's roommates had gone out for a movie. Sarah declined to join them as she was trying to save some money.

It was getting late but her roommates had not returned from the movie. Sarah was tired of waiting so she prepared herself for bed. She spread her mattress at the allotted space and laid down. Sleep eluded her and she tossed and turned on the mattress.

When she next turned to face the ceiling she was horrified to see a pair of feet dangling from the ceiling. The dangling feet appeared to be struggling for its dear life. Sarah screamed and rushed out of her room. She dared not enter her room until her roommates came back. She quit her job the very next day and went back home even though she had not found another job. This scenario of the dangling feet haunted her for months thereafter.

X-Files : The Lost & Found Lego Chip

My youngest son, KYS, loves small and cute Lego sets which he can assemble and dismantle as he pleases. He is very fond of a Lego set in the form of a walkie-talkie. He would be taking his walkie-talkie to his babysitter's house in the mornings and bring it back in the evenings to play with it at home without fail.

As you know, Lego sets are assembled from small pieces or chips which look so fragile. These small chips are so vital to complete the whole set-up, be it an aircraft, a pirate ship or just a small telephone. Since these chips are so tiny, they can be easily misplaced.

The unlucky day happened and KYS lost one of these small chips which formed his favourite walkie-talkie. He searched high and low at home for it. He also searched his babysitter's house but to no avail. He felt very miserable and then he asked SK and I whether the gods can help him find his lost chip. We told him in a tongue in cheek manner to try praying to the Goddess of Mercy which incidentally we have one at home on our altar.

A few days later, after getting up in the morning while getting ready for school, as he was sitting on a single-seater sofa brushing his teeth, yes, he does that all the time, he heard a small piece of plastic material dropping from out of thin air and hitting the floor. He turned to look at the spot which the plastic piece supposedly hit, and lo and behold, lying beside the sofa was his lost Lego chip.

He was overjoyed to have found his lost Lego chip and simultaneously he felt stunned that his lost chip could have dropped from out of nowhere.

There really is no explanation how this chip could have materialised out of thin air.

Yet, a miracle did happen and his prayers were answered!

I personally experienced this in 1980. I had just arrived home from work in the evening. As I stepped through the front door of my home, I suddenly felt awful. I felt nauseous, giddy and all my limbs had gone numb. Before I lost consciousness, I managed a loud scream that attracted the attention of my mum and brother who were at home.

My brother rushed me to the district hospital. The hospital attendant had done the routine check on my vital organs, blood pressure, blood sugar and found nothing wrong with me. I did not know for how long I had been unconscious but at some point of time I was aware of my surroundings even though I could not open my eyes nor could I speak and respond normally.  I could hear the hospital attendant talking. I was very angry that the hospital attendant slapped my face several times trying to revive me. I got real furious when he accused me of pretending to be unconscious because I was trying to get attention or that I could have quarrelled with my boyfriend and thus was trying to get sympathy or attention. Unfortunately, even though I could hear everything I could not open my eyes, nor could I speak.  I just lay motionless on the hospital bed unable to move, not even a muscle.              

All of a sudden, I found myself in pitch darkness. "Someone" was with me, guiding me along. I could not see anything but I sensed that I was been transported at high speed along a dark and narrow road which seemed endless. I use the word "transported" because I was not walking and neither was I flying. Yet I was moved along at high speed. The "someone" beside me did not say anything but I could sense his presence. Yes, my senses told me this "being" was a man.

Unbeknown to me then, after my brother had rushed me to the hospital, he immediately rushed to a temple to consult a medium. The temple medium informed my brother that I was possessed by an evil spirit. The medium gave instructions to my brother to perform on-the-spot prayers at the roadside, at specific directions and with specific offerings. At each road junction, my brother was to call out my name to guide my soul back.

The prayers were very powerful and effective. No sooner had the prayers been over than I woke up and saw my dishevelled brother standing next to my bed beaming down at me.

For weeks after this incident, my family would not allow me to go out at night, for fear that I would lose my soul  to evil spirits again!

My third aunt went for a rest and recreation trip with her children and their families in a popular resort. They went in a few cars and booked a few rooms to spend the night. After dinner the young people all went out to enjoy the nightlife of the hotel cum resort. My aunt opted to stay in the hotel room to watch TV instead. 

Soon, she retired to bed. She slept fitfully and had awakened a few times during the night. She could not remember for sure what actually happened but she thought she heard the connecting door of the bedroom suites, swung to and fro on a few occasions. In her half awake state, my aunt thought her children or her grandchildren had returned for the night. It was only after the trip that the children and grandchildren disclosed that nobody came back to the rooms until the wee hours of the next morning and the whole gang all came back together and not individually.

 Well, you see, my aunt wore a jade bangle. We know it is not easy to put on or remove the type of jade bangle which looks like a doughnut. My aunt could remember that when she awakened, the jade bangle was removed from her wrist and lying next to her hand. She was puzzled how the bangle could have came off so easily. But she did not suspect anything and proceeded to the toilet and use soap to lubricate her wrist before she managed to put the bangle on again. After some time she went back to sleep again. The next time the bangle came off again but she just ignored it. She held onto the bangle and continued to sleep. Guess what ? When she awakened again, the bangle was put back on her wrist!  Someone or something had put it back on her wrist while she was asleep!

X-Files: Tumour Girl Training On The Tracks

Jane was a happy and bubbly girl who was very active in sports. She was fast on the tracks and represented her school in many track events. She was always seen training on the school tracks after normal school hours. No one would suspect that she was terminally ill. Lately, she has been suffering bouts of migraine and had to resort to pain killers to help relieve her headaches. When the pain became unbearable her parents consulted the specialists and to their horror they discovered that Jane had a growth in her brain that needed immediate surgery without which she would surely die.

The next day her parents came to the school and informed the school authorities that Jane required a leave of absence for 3 months to undergo an operation for a brain tumour. Her teachers and friends were notified of her illness and her need to undergo an operation to remove the malignant growth in her brain. 

Months passed and soon her friends saw her running and training on the tracks again after school. They were happy and thought that Jane had recovered from her operation. A few days later, her friends met Jane's parents in school. Her friends enquired about Jane and commented that they saw her training on the school tracks. Her parents were angry and told off her friends for talking nonsense because Jane's operation had failed and she had died two months ago! Her parents had come to the school that day to inform the school authorities about Jane's passing away!

To Jane, her love for sports and running continued despite the fact that she had passed onto the next world. Her spirit continued to train on the tracks and that was when her friends saw her, or rather her ghost, without even realising it. 

After the truth of Jane's death was revealed by her parents, her ghost was never sighted on the tracks again.
